Sorry to hear you had problems. You could try the latest beta 6.4.0.0 (6.3.7.0 is out of date even compared to the latest official release 6.3.13.0, likely to change to 6.4.x very soon)
But if that doesn't help, it sounds very much like a hardware (or driver) issue, where the Windows API in use doesn't return control to Free, thus it can't stop). Note that Free V6 uses some different (more up-to-date) Windows APIs to V3. As you can see, this forum isn't littered with similar reports, which suggests it's an isolated case, possibly related to your system.
