Backup when out of office

We're trying SE to solve a problem with users not saving files to network drives (but rather to their desktops & elsewhere locally), by having SyncBack backup those areas to a server. All well & good for those with desktops, but we have a bunch of laptop only users who - unfortunately for their spouses & children - are working all the time, including nights & weekends outside the office.

I've suggested a VPN so they can have full access to network drives, but they'd rather keep their files on just their laptops.

So what happens if a SyncBack backup is scheduled for when they are out of office, besides it obviously fails? Do they get a pop up & might possibly close the program entirely so it won't work next time they are in office? Or does it just "delay" itself until it "sees" the network drive URL, then run?

I'd back them up to cloud, but for the extra cost & making sure open files (they almost never log out of programs like Outlook) get backed up too.

Any thoughts?? Thanks.
