I have started backing up to non-mapped NAS folders, preferably with a different username and password. That means that the users can't see the backups, but at least they can still see their local recycle bin. Most users forget that there is a backup!
The other thing I'm trying is setting up Windows Library shortcuts, instead of mapped drives. That works ok, but I haven't heard yet whether CryptoLocker can see those. Also, some old software needs mapped drives.
I have a dedicated PC with read-only access to the NAS's, and that creates incremental, differential and full backups.
