I have the same problem (funny I too am using a Galaxy note 2) I first encountered the problem with my xoom which did not support MSC but only supported MTP Protocol.
My research at the time lead me to understand that 2brightsparks were not thinking of integrating the ability to read an MTP device.
I got around the problem by using an FTP server on my Note 2 and my xoom, and syncing via FTP.
The problem is it is way too slow.
In my efforts to find a way to assign a drive letter to an MTP device I learned that all phone will be moving that way, and I presume 1) the music industry like it that way, and 2) the OS (android for example) doesn't have to give up control of the system files while the drive is connected to the PC.
So given MTP is probably the future default I would love to see MTP support for syncback. so Please consider this a vote to make MTP a priority.
