Basically, the de/selections and filtering are inter-wired in our program. Thus, any change to filters has to be re-cross-referenced against the de/selections in case some entries involve contradictions (in which case, you are asked whether to change them so they don't, or maintain them as 'overrides').
Note that such a cross-check process is carried out even if de/selections are disabled. This is so that if you ever decide to re-enable de/selections, they are still (hopefully) in sync with the filters and/or any overrides you elected to set/keep/change. Hence you can’t disable the cross-check (and thus the Choose dialog opening/enumerating/populating) by disabling de/selections.
