My HD died during backup.....

I have my settings so that overnight each Sunday, SyncBackSE backs up my files.

Well, this Sunday I left my computer on and went to bed, so SyncBackSE could do its thing while I slept. I woke up Monday to see an error message on my screen informing me "the disk has failed."

I have an HP computer and this is the second time in less than a year this has happened. I knew the HD was fried. I called support anyway...they confirmed it was gone and because it's still under warranty they are sending me a replacement HD. They claim I should get it by Friday.

Meanwhile, I decided to hook up my old computer while I wait, which also has SyncBackSE installed. I connected the monitor to it, and the two external HD's I use for backup, because I wanted to try to figure out when the computer crashed and if it backed up anything before it did.

Here's the problem, and I think I already know the answer, but I figure it's worth asking anyway. It appears my computer died somewhere in the middle of backup, but did backup just about everything important. However, it appears the SyncBackSE program on my old computer (that I'm now temporarily using) started a new backup after I hooked up the old computer.

Some of the backups on the old settings were "mirror-right," so SyncBackSE over-wrote the files on the external HD's from the old computer, overwriting the up-to-date files on the external hard drives with the old files, and deleting files in the process.

For instance, I lost all the pictures I had backed up for the past 10 months....they were replaced with the old pictures on the old computer and the new pictures were, I guess, erased.

So, am I totally screwed? On the files I had set to "mirror-right," is there any way to get back the deleted files?

Are they maybe still on the external hard drives despite being deleted? Or when SyncBackSE deletes files from an external hard drive, does it delete them to the main hard drive, the recycle bin?

If anyone knows I'd appreciate any and all feedback! If anyone knows of any programs that are good at recovering deleted files that might be helpful too. Any help would be helpful!
