By trial and error I found that uninstalling the Gigabyte APP Center utilities resolved this problem.
APP Center was pre-loaded on my PC with its Gigabyte Z87-D3HP motherboard. It contains a number of utilities including EasyTune, USB Blocker, Fast Start and Smart Time Lock. Uninstalling APP Center removed all of these so I can't be sure which was causing a conflict with SyncBack.
I can only guess that one or more of these utilities somehow interfered with SyncBack as they all loaded with Windows.
If you're having a similar problem and use any of the APP Center utilities you may want to disable each one in turn.
If I find out more I'll post a further update.
