Hi, I'm sorry to hear you don't like the new style icons. I've had comments that they're restful so it seems we're stuck between a rock and a hard place. I've tried to create a more modern, simple, and consistent design for the new icons.
Designing an icon that is clear at 16x16 pixels, and that represents a concept like "run", is always a challenge
The cog for example represents an action, something that happens. Cogs are part of something bigger, and we usually associate them with complex mechanisms that work to achieve a result. There's also a clockwise circular arrow around the centre (which is difficult to view at 16x16), and that contrasts with the counter-clockwise restore arrow.

We've tried to ensure the icons do not stray too far from what people are used to, but on the odd occasion, and with the aim of making things clearer, a redesign was important. Unfortunately the change in style hasn't suited you, but I trust you also appreciate we do think very carefully about every aspect of the design as well as the program's functional strengths.
Kind Regards,
