Tips for "cherry picking" valuable files from APPDATA

Most of the data held under each users's APPDATA folder doesn't need backup, but there are "gems" which do. Examples include SYNCBACK profiles, Firefox Favourites, Explorer Send-To options, Quick-Launch shortcuts,... etc.

To catch the "gems", I proceed as follows:
    - Modify - <Choose subdirectories and files>
    - Navigate to each user's APPDATA folder and clear the check mark
    - Open the APPDATA folder and walk down the whole structure to tick inidividual files while setting various folders to "ignore new files" and "ignore new folders"

It's a bit tedious, especially as it repeats for each user defined on the system and on each separate machine. Using Filters would be perfect but they don't seem to offer a way of selectively including files in an excluded folder. I understand why, but I do think we need a "exclude folder x except for a,b & c in it" mechanism.

Question 1) Is there a better way to achive this?

Question 2) What's the best way of transporting such a profile to another machine, retaining the custom and filetered file selections?

Many thanks for any/all suggestions.
