Hi
I can see some potential gotchas in that idea. For example, we'd need to poll our servers (how often would we need to so that %LATESTVERSION% is up-to-date whenever your profile calls it? Or should we do it on the fly?). Plus, some people are allergic to software that 'phones home' (and/or have firewall settings that prevent it, or PCs that are sandboxed or otherwise disconnected from the planet). So it would maybe need to be optional, or 'only polled if called to evaluate'. And that's just off the top of my head. I bet the development department can think of others (usually do
)
But I can see how the general concept could be handy, though not sure how many new sales it would generate
- anyway, I'll pass it on.
