And if you wanted to exclude an important ('some other use') folder (or file - maybe a disk image?) on the Destination (only) from what would otherwise be deleted (because not on Source)..?
People do, hence there is a mechanism to do so. Note that if a folder (or file) exists on both sides, there will be two folder (or file) icons displayed in two adjacent columns. If on Destination only, it will be in the right-hand column only (and so on).
