Hi,
I'm having trouble with several USB hard drives that I backup to with SyncBackSE and Macrium Reflect. Often a drive disappears (i.e. is not visible to the file explorer or the Windows 10 Task Manager). Sometimes the drive is visible but when a program tries to reference it an I/O error occurs. I'm working on the drive problem but my question here has to do with SyncBackSE.
Macrium Reflect handles these problems in what seems like a reasonable way, i.e. it reports an error if something goes wrong and otherwise it completes the backup successfully.
Not so with SyncBackSE. Sometimes it fails with a "scan failure" error but the system tray icon shows no error. Often it thinks the backup is still running but the backup drive has disappeared or it still is visible but there's no I/O activity. In that case it will stay that way forever, even if I stop and restart SyncBackSE, remove power to the drive for a while, or cycle power to the drive to get it working again. Editing the backup profile doesn't help either. Since SyncBackSE thinks the profile is still running I can't start another backup, so I'm stuck.
Can anyone tell me how to get SyncBackSE to clear the bogus running status so I can run a backup using that profile again?
Also, is there any way to get SyncBackSE to reflect the "scan failure" error in the system tray icon?
Thanks,
Mike
