Hi,
I have been using Syncback (version 3.xx) free edition for years...
Worked as a breeze, I also have been using this since a year now with my Synology NAS DS111.
Windows 8 forced me to a higher version, as I was afraid version 3.xx. was not compatible.
So I downloaded the latest freeware version 6, but also Syncback SE as I am interested in the options it provides.
I was looking for 'can copy open files' and also ‘versioning’ is very interesting for me.
I have been testing SyncbackSE now for two days with both Windows7 and Windows8 and my NAS of course. I was very pleased at first…
However, big problems here while testing and performing backups.
I have had several (>20) times that my network connection failed. Result was often a lock on the NAS so I had to restart the NAS often to proceed testing.
No Internet and no LAN (cured by stopping and starting the networkadapter again)
Google is my friend, and I did read about network failures and such, so I found out that disabling the option ‘safe copy’ would solve the problems that I have.
This is correct. My backups were working again and open files were copied indeed.
So far so good, but it prevents me from choosing the option ‘versioning’ because ‘safe copy’ is used here.
Today I was testing the option to use compression (never used that before).
Backup failed again and network connection was lost again.
I was not using ‘safe copy’ but noticed (again) files like SBSE___ that seem to be at least part of the problem. Apparently the creating and renaming? of temp files for the zip is the culprit here.
So I can not use ‘safe copy’, I can not use ‘versioning’ and I can not use ‘compression’ with my NAS. I need to avoid files like SBSE___.*
Or… am I missing something here?
BTW: I upgraded the firmware of the NAS yesterday.
Regards, Arno R
