Well, I did run some new tests.
I also tested another Sync/backup program… same problem with Windows8.
I did setup a multi-boot system, so I tested Syncback again with Windows7.
Well: It seems that all is well with Windows7. Safe copies, compression, it just works!
But not with Windows8!
When I boot to Windows8 I can’t even copy (lots of) files to the NAS.
I tested copying with Total Commander and also with Windows explorer.
Same results.
Copying a single file is OK, but copying multi files/folders to the NAS is failing…
The network connection goes down, AND there is a lock on the NAS. I have to reboot the NAS.
Because of the lock I reported problems both with Windows7 and Windows8. I did not always reboot the NAS when changing the OS… I do now when testing…
I learned that Windows8 uses SMB version 2.2 (also called SMB 3.0). Widows7 uses SMB 2.1 The ‘backwards compatibility’ seems to be a problem??
