The setting re 'missed' doesn't apply, because the Scheduled Task did try to start, and cancelled itself due to one of the constraints (hence the error you quoted). It only applies to 'missed' where (for example) the PC was powered off completely, so couldn't even think about starting...(or, if it was powered but sleeping, but you didn't have the 'wake' setting enabled)

Please remember these are all settings (and constraints...) in the Windows Task Scheduler. We're just providing a drill-down into the WTS interface to make it easier for you to create/configure a Scheduled Task. SE is simply sleeping quietly waiting for the Scheduled Task to trigger it.

I went into the Task Scheduler and ticked off "If the task fails, restart every" and put in 2hrs, and to attempt 3 times. Beyond this, can you think of anything else to do?

I believe the task didn't run because the laptop was on battery power (I assume that not running a backup on battery power is safer as, if the battery is low, it might power off before the task is done).

Beyond that, are you aware of any way to be alerted if a task fails? The whole point, for me, of backup software is to be able to "set it, and forget it"; having to check (in this case) weekly to see if a backup happened is a bit frustrating.
