Hi,
For software installation and serial number activation (applicable for commercial versions, i.e. SyncBackSE/Pro), no internet access is required. Although some of the services that SyncBack can back up to/from requires internet connectivity, you should be fine if you do not utilize them and backup to an external (or internal) drive instead.
The only time when you need internet would be when you’re downloading the software from our site, but this can be circumvented by downloading it to a thumbdrive on a different PC and transferring the installer to this workstation for installation.
All three models of SyncBack – SyncBackFree, SyncBackSE and SyncBackPro supports backing up data to (or from) an external hard drive.
The comparison boils down to whether you need the additional features that are only found in SyncBackSE/Pro. For example, the need to copy open/locked files, etc.
Please note that SyncBackFree does not run on server versions of Windows.

You are welcome to download and test them out in your environment to see which SyncBack best suits your needs. Note that our fully functional commercial programs - SyncBackSE and SyncBackPro comes with a free 30-day evaluation, after which a valid serial is required for continued usage.

SyncBackFree/SE/Pro are separate/individual products and they can be installed in parallel with one another for cross-evaluation if you wish to do so. Just make sure to use their default installation folder to avoid installing them over the same folder. All 3 versions will uninstall cleanly if you decide not to purchase/continue usage.
