Re: Few WANTED features for SB

You can do a search on the term 'housekeeping' on this forum which will list steps on how to create a 'dummy' profile which deletes unwanted files.

Of course, you'll probably need to add filters so that you can Exclude file-names of profiles which you do not want to be deleted in such a profile.

But then again, since there are multiple folders care of the %WEEKDAY% variable, how would you tell the profile which backups to flush? You also mentioned that you may have 5 (or 7) of them. Should we wipe all of them? It gets very complex very quickly.

Sorry, but this variant does not approach me.
I copy in the same job several folders where many different files. I need to copy is not modified or deleted files, and each time to do a full copy of all the files and folders in the current Backup Job.
That is, for example to do 1 time a week for the 1st full copy of all the folders and files in the job and thus keep 3 files created every week. How is it possible to do in the program?

If by "blank" window, you're referring to the "Differences" window, then it means it's appearing because there are still some entries within - for example, Skip, etc but are not listed because of your display filtering. In other words, it may appear to be blank but it's actually not empty.

You can enable the option to prevent the Differences window from appearing by going to:

Modify > Expert > Compare Options > Do not show the Differences screen if it is empty...

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you're talking about. Can you clarify what you're trying to accomplish please?

By the way, have you actually tried to reboot your Windows? This is because extra Explorer context menu options will usually only appear after you do (and the registry is re-loaded).

Bear in mind that the DOC installer will auto-install a 64-bit version on x64 Windows (you don’t need a separate installer). You can check the install folder to see if it's there, which should be the main Program Files branch (not the ‘(x86)’ variant which is only used for 32-bit s/w).

I don’t suppose he’s omitted to reboot, by any chance? Extra Explorer context menu options may not be visible till he does (and the registry is re-loaded).

Some additional info - if you wish to use the dual Wipe Free Disk Space options, you will need to enter the license details via the OnClick license manager (or, via an OnClick applet that has built-in license-handling, e.g. FindOnClick). You'll also need to reboot afterwards.

I'm trying to create a scheduled 1 time per week full copy selected in the job folders and files. That is so in the destination folder 1 per week created a complete copy of the folder and file assignments.

full_backup1 [folder]
full_backup2 [folder]
full_backup3 [folder]

or

full_backup1.zip
full_backup2.zip
full_backup3.zip

Thanks, that's too complicated for me. I had a look, but I can't even roughly estimate what that would cost.

My guess is that FileZilla may have incorrectly set the LastModification date/time stamp of the files transferred to your NAS with the date/time that it was copied.

Thus, when you run the SyncBack profile, during scan stage, it found that the LastModified date/time values of your NAS files doesn't match with those files on HDD, and proposed to copy them across.

To find out exactly what those differences are, you'll need to perform a run (Ctrl+R) and when the Differences dialog window pops up, select/highlight a file that has been proposed to be copied to Destination (which you know that has already been copied to Destination and no changes were made to the Source file) and look at the lower-left corner for a panel which will show what those differences are.

Screenshot of Differences window:

We will not propose to copy Unchanged files @ Destination unless they are found to be different (from Source) during scan stage.

You also need to copy the files to the profile of the users such as Windows 7 - ntuser.dat etc, and other open files ..

I understand the 1 full backup per week part. But what I don't understand is how you get 3 full backups or as per your earlier message "keep 3 files created every week". You only wish to run the profile ONCE per week as a full backup correct? But why are there 3 full backups?

Also, can you clarify do you want to re-use the folder name by rotating them, example, by the end of "Full_Backup3", do you want to rotate back to using "Full_Backup1"?

Or do you want to keep each full backup separate and each full backup will always use a new folder? like:

Full_Backup1
Full_Backup2
Full_Backup3
Full_Backup4
Full_Backup5
Full_Backup6
Full_Backup7
8,
9,
10,
etc
etc...

No, I just want to 1 day a week full backup (optional) without removing previously created. And on the drive just to keep the example 3 above to create a full copy, configure how many full backups stored in the destination folder ..

So.... just to reconfirm, you want 1 full backup performed each week,

Week 1 - Full backup 1
Week 2 - Full Backup 2
Week 3 - Full Backup 3

and on Week 4, you want the Full Backup to rotate back to Folder name "Full Backup 1" correct?

Week 4 - Full Backup 1
Week 5 - Full Backup 2,
etc.

ok, but the message says there are no files to backup, & and I dont think I filter in a way that would prompt that response. I think it happens when I run a group of files.

Thanks, that works in my group setup. Can you also explain what "run profiles in parallel" does. I dont see a difference. And I know there is a setting to not show the difference window at all, but where do you go to undo that?

Desktop shortcut to a profile

I've just installed the new version of SBSE on Win 8.1. When I create a desktop shortcut to a profile (did this by dragging from SBSE and dropping on the desktop) the icon that is created does not show the SB icon, it just looks like a regular Windows folder icon. Is there another way I should be creating the shortcut?

Thanks

It's the same syndrome as this - Windows screwing up the UAC-shield-overlay process, and displaying a generic icon instead, as a fail-back. It's not restricted to Win7...

You might be able to re-set it by drilling into the shortcut's Properties and using Change Icon, and/or deleting and re-creating the shortcut.

Hi,

I assume you were trying to backup the whole phone? The purpose of this software is mainly to help users backing up their own data and content. Trying to copy the whole phone or operating system files would fail most of the time due to access restrictions plus in the event you had managed to copy such files they would have been useless since you wouldn't be able to restore them anyway.

If you feel like copying everything that may be related to you, try looking under the /sdcard folder (if you have one) or under /storage/sdcard0 where usually applications will store files, such as photos, music and videos.

Bottomline is that we don't and cannot clone the phone's files.

V7 will not work with DropBox

I have DropBox Paid with a LOT of files, however the folder destination I put into Syncback is empty so the files in the other folders should not matter.

However, SyncBack Pro 7.0.14.0 just keeps scanning and scanning dropbox.

It does this:

0 KBytes to go, and the greenbar keeps going and going.

That was on Windows XP. Then I installed SyncbackPro on a new Windows 8 computer, made a new profile (did not copy the old profile) and tried it again ... same thing.

It kees "scanning" dropbox forever (but it says 0 kbytes to go)

I still have one of the SyncBack beta versions on another computer and it works fine with Dropbox./

Ok, I see the problem and I believe it is a bug maybe.

I looked at the Syncback debug, and Syncback is looking at every file in Drobox!

I have SyncBack set to backup to \Backup\ and this is an empty folder.

However, sycnback is looking at \ and \folder1 and\folder2 etc.

Those folders contain thousands of files and it will take syncback forever to look at those folders ... but WHY is syncback looking at those folders? They are not part of the destination. The destination is an emtpy folder called \backup\

When I do the same backup with SyncBack BETA 7.0.0.38, the Dropbox scan takes about 5 seconds.

Which "message" are you referring to that tells you 'there are no files to backup'? Can you provide a screenshot of it?

Also, by display filtering, i meant you might have enabled some Filters on your Differences dialog window such that it doesn't display files that meet certain criteria.

For example, press Ctrl+R with your Group profile highlighted which will start a manual run. After scanning, the Differences window will be displayed.

Depending on the SyncBackFree version you are using, there is a Filter drop-down menu at the top left corner (only applies to V7, but unfortunately, you didn't tell us which version you are using so this option may be somewhere else in other older versions of SBFree).

Click on the Filter menu and you will see there are options which you can check so that certain files meeting certain criterias are not displayed, for example:

- Show skipped files/folders
- show changed files
etc

enabling any or all such options may leave your Differences window totally blank because you have told it to filter out such proposed file entries, etc.

needowelum wrote:Can you also explain what "run profiles in parallel" does.

When you are at that Group settings page which displays this option (Modify > Main), press F1 for more info.

The corresponding section within the Help file already explained in detail what that option does.

needowelum wrote:I know there is a setting to not show the difference window at all, but where do you go to undo that?

Take a look at the 1st option of the Compare Options settings page? It's the one just above the "Do not show Differences...." option I told you about earlier.
