SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: How to Filter Subfolders

Technically that does not work with the child folders of an unknown parent that are not in the root directory

If you only use *\test\ and the actual folder is located *\parent\test\ then the filter will not find the child folder

So you could use the two filter approach, as recommended by the help, to look under the parent folder
*\parent\
*\parent\child\

However if you don't know what the parent folder is called, then if you use the following combination
*\
*\child\

Then you get a lot of empty folders copied besides the ones you want

I have not been able to figure out how to copy certain sub-folders with a specific name that have an unknown parent folder

SyncBackSE (commercial) • SyncBack SE FTP backup problems

Hello,

after multiple hours of trying to get a FTP backup working, I'm out of ideas.
I've got a computer running FileZilla Server 0.9.50. at home.
A couple miles away, I've got my mother's computer running SyncBack SE 6.X and FileZilla Client 3.10.3.

The server is setup with some encryption, and I've created a profile in her FileZilla Client that works.

Now, I'm trying to get SyncBack SE to create a daily backup to the FTP server.
I ran into problems, but managed to overcome them one at a time.

I got to the point where I started a file transfer (1 video file, 360MB).
I interrupted the transfer to tweak the bandwidth limiter (I'm limiting her upload to about half her total upload bandwidth).
I tried the backup again, and the file started transferring again.

Then I fiddled with something else, forgot what it was.
But now, I can't get any kind of transfer going.

Here is my error log:

It isn't. It is a drive letter to an external USB drive.

If you tell me how to relaunch the app (it is unexitable), I'll enable the debug info.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Syncback with Mac

I am trying to transfer from a Mac server to a new Server 2012 R2 file server. The simulation run shows no errors, however when the job finally runs roughly 15% of the files (15,000) end up with the same error. It says there is a syntax error and I can see that some file names have weird characters appended to them. I know that Macs sometimes do this, however I was wondering if Syncback can manually correct this as it will be a pain to fix all 15,000 files.

It seems as if Syncback Pro is extracting album art when doing a backup and creating JPG files. I don't want this extraction to happen. Any settings available to stop this?

I am considering purchasing syncbackPro, as I am fairly happy with the free version. However, the free version does not seem to support file name encryption. Someone can view all the files contained in the "encrypted" archive, which is not very secure at all. Does SyncbackPro provide file name encryption?

Thanks!

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Apple Photostream error when syncing

I wanted to sync a folder of pictures from one PC to the UPLOAD folder in Photostream of another PC that should then upload those pics to Apples servers. When I use SyncbackSE V6 to do the sync I get a message from photostream saying the item is not in a supported format. It is in the correct format (jpeg) and if I copy the same file over the network manually using windows file sharing the process works as it should.
Why is the fact that using Syncback to do the copy give me an error?

Hello,
My computer screen is smaller than most.
I find that I am unable to resize the operating pages so that I can see the bottoms of the pages.
Also, the help/instruction pages, I am unable to scroll down to read what is at the bottom.
SyncBack was referred to me as highly recommended, but with these limitations, I am unable to use it.
Please help.

Hi, there is no feature in SyncBack to do that. SyncBack never changes the contents of files or extracts out contents of files. You must have some other software (perhaps running in the background or part of the storage device etc) that is doing that.

Hi, no, there is no option to encrypt filenames. To protect filenames from viewing you could backup your files to an encrypted Zip file and then back that Zip file up to an encrypted Zip file.

Hi,

When you say that the firewall is OFF, do you mean that you have totally disabled it? There is something definitely blocking SyncBack from sending out the email. Error 0x0000274d (as per the KB article http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... ting-serve) means that your system is telling us the connection is being actively blocked or refused (that's a Windows error number, equivalent in decimal to socket error 10061 - it's not an error in our software, it's a response from your system). There's not a lot we can do about it except to cite the likely usual reasons.

Thanks,
Kostas

Hi,

SyncBack won't alter any filenames as it always replicates the relative paths and filenames.

If you are using SyncBackPro V7 you could use SyncBack Touch on your Mac and let SyncBackPro transfer files via that.

SyncBack Touch • Security Concerns on Windows

$

When you first install SyncBack Touch on a Windows server it installs and starts a Windows service running on port 8080 and with full access to the filesystem. Until you are able to connect to the machine with a copy of SyncBackPro and change the configuration, say to another port or to add a password, the server filesystem is left wide open to anyone with a copy of SyncBackPro.

If they manage to reach the server before you do then they are able to read (or worse) overwrite files on the server - this seems like an unnecessary security issue.

Wouldn't it be far safer to force the installer of SyncBack Touch on the Windows machine to enter a secure password before the service is started?

Also, wouldn't it safer to allow the service to run under a restricted account to further restrict the access that it has to the filesystem - for example, to make it readonly.

Hi,

You can define a password during installation by using command line parameters:

SyncBackTouch_Setup.exe /Password="secret"

You can read more about the installation parameters in the SyncBackPro's Help File (under SyncBack Touch entry).

For the moment there is no parameter to allow changing the service account but this can be done manually after installation by using the Windows Services tool. Keep in mind that a restricted service account may disable SyncBack Touch's use of VSS which it depends on for copying open/locked files.

Thanks,

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Amazon Cloud Drive issue

$

I've been testing mirroring to Amazon Cloud Drive and on the whole it works extremely well. I do realize the Cloud Drive functionality is BETA at this time but it does work very well.

When browsing the target folder structure in Cloud Drive, one issue is that the software often does not display folders below the root level folder. Not an issue if the target is the root level folder itself since the mirror job completes successfully.

For example i have the follow folder tree on Amazon:
\Document\Bills
\Invoices
\Hours
\Staff

If i browse the tree from within syncbackpro all I see is:
\Document

But if I look at the tree via the Amazon web client all the underlying folders are there. Just means for that folder I cannot set up a job to mirror to \Document\Staff. Only to \Document.

What is annoying is that this behavior is not consistent across all folders. Some display correctly, but most do not.

Is this a bug? Or working as designed?

SyncBack Touch • Changing lost password...

Hi there!

I lost my Password for SB Touch. When I try to change to a new Password within SB Pro (latest) I just get error-messages. So I can't change the password to a new one.

So I had to reinstall SB Touch on the remote machine.

Is there a better way?
