SyncBackSE (commercial) • Re: Are global profile changes possible?

This can be important - for example, although this thread basically has the answer, its description of where settings are (how to access them) may have changed since then. However, the underlying concepts are much the same, and a rummage through the Help should assist if you need it (now you know what to look for). There's a section in the Help on Shared Settings, for example.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Missing Global Option
I would like to be prompted whether a profile should be run on Windows 7/64 shutdown.
According to the help file this setting should be available on the
tab.
Global Settings - Expert
Prompt me before running any profiles configured to run on shutdown/restart: If this option is ticked, and you have profiles that are set to run on Windows shutdown or restart, then you will be prompted before they are run. For example, you may want to shutdown quickly and therefore do not want the profiles to be run.
Can't find this option

Pls. compare attached screenshot.
SyncBackSE 7.6.8.0 (german)
Any hint ?
Thanks

Prompt me before running any profiles configured to run on shutdown/restart: If this option is ticked, and you have profiles that are set to run on Windows shutdown or restart, then you will be prompted before they are run. For example, you may want to shutdown quickly and therefore do not want the profiles to be run.
[note icon] Starting with Windows Vista, Microsoft introduced many restrictions on how programs can react to and handle
the shutdown or restart of a computer. Due to these restrictions this option is not available on Windows Vista or newer.
Thus, the option is suppressed (not available/displayed) on your Global Options > Expert tab because SE knows you are running Windows 7, and the option would not work (so, no point displaying it).
Similarly, the option to Run Unattended (in When > Login/Logout) is locked 'on' (and cannot be changed) because you cannot run profiles triggered by a shutdown/logoff in Attended (interactive) mode because Windows 7 (etc) does not allow that. It's mentioned in the relevant Help section.
If you ever upgrade from Win7, you may also encounter this issue (depending how long your shutdown profile/s take to complete), but with Win 7 you should not be affected.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Suggestion SyncBackPro V7.6.8.0
I will pass your request to the relevant department for their review and consideration.
In the meantime, when you are not at home you can mass-select all the 30 profiles, right click and choose ‘Disable’ from the pop-up menu (please note that a disabled profile cannot be run by any method - including scheduled, manually, etc.). And, when you are at home you can enable them from the same pop-up menu.
Alternatively, you can consider enabling the options "Silently fail if source/left and Destination/Right cannot be reached through the network, drive does not exist, or there is no disk" under:
Copy/Delete > Advanced settings page.
Then, no log file will be produced, and no failure result will be recorded when your Source or Destination can't be reached. However, this is a per-profile setting, therefore you have to enable it for each profile. Please read the Help file for more details about this option. With Copy/Delete > Advanced settings page opened press F1 to open the contextual help for more details.
Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Versioning to a USB drive that is only periodically available
Neurone wrote:
Its a bit trickier for the external HD - what does SyncBackPro do if the device isn't connected?
By default it will error out with 'Drive not found' error (and log the fact), as you might expect.
There's an option in Modify -> Expert -> Copy/Delete -> Advanced to 'Silently fail...' if the Destination cannot be reached. If so, the Result (entry in Result column) will blank (because last Result entry may no longer apply, but it isn't a Success, but you've told it not to record an Error, so...), and no log will be created, though the LastRun value in the UI will increment as a clue. (Note: it's up to you - if you use this option - to remember this setting is in force; it can cause confusion if clicking Run seems to do nothing, because the drive is connected but not powered, for example)
As for triggering, you may want to consider setting the profile to start when the drive is next connected* (When -> Insert) in addition to the When -> Changes setting you may have now. This will immediately bring the ext drive up to date to match the current state of the Source. There's no caching of changes in the meantime, though, so you will have lost any in-between changes (because you didn't copy them to the ext drive, and they successively overwrote themselves on the Source). For a given changed file, on resumption of traffic to the ext drive, a profile will Version any copy currently on the ext drive and replace it with a copy of the edited file currently on the Source. Any interim changes (before the last one) while ext drive was disconnected will not be stored anywhere (except maybe with DropBox).
If you deleted a long-standing file by mistake, you should be able to retrieve a copy from the ext drive when next connected (if you can't from DropBox?) but the most-recent copy available will be the last copy transmitted to it before you disconnected it. If you create a file while ext drive disconnected then mistakenly delete it before re-connecting, there won't be a copy on the ext drive, nor on the PC. Hopefully there will be on DropBox.
* make sure Pro is running first or it won't trigger...

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: backup from smartphone
SyncBackSE & SyncBackPro can use either Media Transfer Protocol (which may well limit you to 'media' file-types such as JPG, MP3, etc - the rules vary between different phones/Window-versions) over USB, or leverage a copy of SyncBack Touch installed on the phone (assuming it is a compatible Android - you didn't say) using networking. Home users get 2 free* Touch licenses (i.e. two devices) included with a single license of SE or Pro.
Note again for emphasis - Touch currently only uses networking (i.e. usually wifi), not USB. Whethr you find that more or less convenient is up to you.
If you have any further questions about an SE/Pro-only capability, suggest post back in the SE or Pro section, to keep it simple. Bear in mind that if you do so, people will expect you to have a copy of SE or Pro installed (also maybe to have read the Help a little). You can install all three 'models' in parallel for testing if you wish (just accept the default install folders). Any 'model' will uninstall cleanly without affecting the other/s.
* further Touch licenses are available to purchase if you have >2 devices you wish to connect to - details on the 2BS store

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Re: SyncBackSE Mishandles Drive Problems
As you suggested I just upgraded from SyncBackSE ver. 6 to ver. 7. Since I did that I've had 2 problems.
The first is that the SyncBackSE icon does not appear in the system tray. I checked that the icon was set to display as described in your help topic "The SyncBack icon is not shown" and found that Windows was set correctly. All icons for other applications that I expect to see are visible. The SyncBackSE options "Minimize to tray" and "Minimize on close" are set. The icon is not shown whether or not SyncBackSE is open. Previously with ver. 6 the SyncBackSE system tray icon was always displayed.
Secondly the original problem is still there. Last night when SyncBackSE ran it stalled backing up from internal drive F: to external USB drive O:. It shows the backup item as running but no I/O was occurring on drives F: or O:. When I view drive O: (the target drive) with the explorer I can navigate the directory structure but if I go too deep I get an error. If I cycle power to O: I can then navigate the drive from the explorer completely with no problems, but SyncBackSE stays stalled. It never finishes the backup, never does I/O to O:, and never reports an error. If I click the Stop icon it closes the log and shows the backup aborted, and I can then run the backup successfully.
As I said previously I'm having problems with USB external drives not working right on this PC so that's not a surprise. I'm working on that but haven't yet figured out how to fix it. However other programs that access USB drives detect that an error has occurred and report the problem. SyncBackSE just stalls, doesn't do subsequent backups, and never reports anything.
I had this same problem with ver. 6, but it was worse because I could not stop the stalled backup or clear the running status. It's nice that I can now clear the error, but it's a problem that SyncBackSE stalls without completing the stalled backup or subsequent backups and without indicating an error.
How can I get SyncBackSE to stop and report an error when this problem with drive O: occurs?
Thanks,
Mike

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: "No Profiles Running" message
As you suggest, I do try to remember to pull up the SB screen to check for running jobs, and this is usually sufficient, as I know what jobs should be running at the time. However, I don't always get it right, with the obvious consequences.
It's a great product, by the way.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Connect to iPAD
I use SyncBackSE V7.6.8.0. The program works well in my use on Win 10.
But I just see a small problem: I connect my iPad to my PC via a USB connection. Windows Explorer sees the iPad and I can access the images it contains.
I wanted to use SyncBackSE to save these images in a directory on my PC, but unfortunately I can not describe the iPad as a data source.
What solution can I use to do this?
Thank you for your reply.

You had asked a similar question last month (see topic viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12259). Have you seen the replies on that topic?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: OneDrive for Business on Office 365
There is an article describing the procedure for Google Drive at http://www.2brightsparks.com/resources/ ... drive.html which is very similar to the rest of the cloud storages supported by SyncBackPro. So instead of Google Drive you will have to create a profile using Office 365 as a source (or destination), with the rest of the steps being almost the same.
As for your question regarding which app to use, it's totally subjective depending what you are trying to achieve and how. SyncBackPro allows you to specify folders and files, do backup/mirror or sync, use fiters, schedule the profile execution, just to name a few. Just remember not to use both apps at the same time (if use you SyncBackPro for Office 365 that is) since that could cause more requests to your Office365 account and a higher possibility of throttling and denying service. Also the possibility of having both apps trying to copy over the same files (again, depending on how you've setup your SyncBackPro profiles).
Thanks,
Kostas

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Re: Connect to iPAD
You may try creating a SyncBackSE profile that uses Media Transfer Protocol as the source, then select your device from the available MTP devices (make sure the device is plugged in on the USB) and see if you can navigate through its contents.
Thanks,
Kostas

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: How can one run a complete comparison without interruption / displaying messages?
Slightly confused by your term "comparison" - if you want to do a comparison (only), without processing any files, presumably you want to see what it found (else why bother?).
Sorry for confusing with that term. Yes, that's right, I want to see what, which files will be changed, overwritten, precessed before doing the sync. I am used to do it because I used FreeFileSync for a long time.
Thank you for the links. I will have a look.
If you have specific situations in mind not covered above, you'd need to give more detail.
Alright, thank you, at the moment I am satisfied with the information above.
Thank you very much again.

You can enable compression so each file is compressed into a zip file. I can't see any other way around it.
