SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Run before profile

Hi,

Replied via the parallel support ticket. The issue is related to how Windows runs a Schedule task.

Note that when you schedule a profile in modern version of Windows (i.e. Windows Vista and later versions e.g, Windows 2008, Windows 7/8/10), the profile always runs in a hidden session (session-0, which has no desktop) using a new instance of SyncBackPro (i.e launched to run the profile and closed afterwards by the Windows Task Scheduler). Hence you will not be able to interact with it or see the notepad that is opened in Session-0 as you are not running in that session.

Please read this KB article for more details about Windows sessions:

Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: "Delta"-Sync when using Dropbox-Cloud and compressed/encrypted zip-Archive?

Hi,

When backing files up to a cloud storage into a *single* ZIP file then the ZIP is being created from scratch and uploaded to the cloud every time. It's counter productive to download the whole ZIP, analyze the contents, update what has changed and upload again.

If you want to only upload changes then I will suggest using single file compression (each file goes into its own ZIP file) which gets uploaded separately.

Thanks,

I played with this again and I still can't get it to work.

If I could get Sharepoint and OneDrive working I would buy a license in a heartbeat :(

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Windows slows down

Hello,

since few days my Computer is very slow at start up. Explorer.exe hangs up for over one minute. Start up time according to windows diagnostic is about 110.000 ms. No other error messages or entries occur. Even entries in browsers are impossible. The whole PC is blocked during this time. I could verify that was caused by SyncBackfree. After uninstall all works fine. I tried several versions What could be the reason?

What the #&*@! is an error 30031?

SyncBackFree (freeware) • SyncBack does not completely mirror my AppData files

Trying to create a mirror of my AppData files on an external hard drive. Just easier to mirror the whole directory than to set up individual profiles. I opened the file where the mirror was to be written, and created a new file in the directory to be mirrored. Ran the program and it said it was successful, but the new file never appeared. When you answer please be patient, because I'm not really sure I'm creating this profile correctly. I have several other backup and mirror profiles that all work well; just can't get my AppData files to mirror.

Gratefully,

Found a workaround. If I exclude the .exe from MSSE scanning all works fine.

with respect to problem 1 where the modification timestamps are one hour different, I am encountering the same problem with a subset of files. I originally thought this only occurred when copying to a NAS but also occurs when copying between two local drives. Support ticket details have been updated with the details below :-

I performed a simple test where various methods were used to copy files and directories from local drive c to local drive d. There was no NAS involved

The three methods used to copy were:
a) windows explorer, copy from context menu on drive c and paste to drive d.
b) syncback pro mirror using standard windows file copy method
c) syncback pro mirror using windows explorer method

The results were.
For most files with method a) b) and c) files copied with correct timestamps

for a) all files copied with correct timestamps

for b) and c) some files copied with the modification timestamp being one hour different from the source drive to the destination drive!

Both methods used by syncback do not replicate the method used by windows explorer! (What is interesting is when syncback does a comparison even though the timestamps are different on the two local drives it sees them as the same).

It looks like there is a problem with a small set of files that where copies using syncback end up with mod timestamps 1 hour out but with windows explorer the timestamps copy correctly.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Make settings.ini-Files only readable by SB Pro

$

Hi,

I'um using SB Pro 7.6.8.0 but that's probably irrelevant for this question.

I'm making only backups of important files in the Cloud (Dropbox). As I want to use encryption, I put a 5 GB Container file into Dropbox, as DB supports differential uploads, which is nice in my case. As the upload only starts after dismounting the container, I'm always mounting/dismouting before/after the Profilerun. As I want to automate it (otherwise regular backups won't be done properly), I have to let SB mount the Container and therefore know the Container-PW.

I found out that the settings are stored within the settings.ini-file in AppData, something like this:

Code:

RunBefore="C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" "C:\Dropbox\TC_Container" /l K: /p MY_PW_HERE  /a /q
RunAfter="C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe" /dK /history n /q /s

I know, saving PWs is generally not a good idea. But in this case I think it's alright, as this PW is not used anywhere else and should only avoid that someone eventually breaking in the Dropbox-Servers should not be able to decrypt files. IMHO, if one would get full access to my computer, I've got other problems anyhow...

But at least I want to make the file not readable for anyone...
I'm running SB Pro with highest elevated rights, so I thought maybe it is somehow possible to make this file readable only for elevated processes, or even only for SB Pro.

Do you have any idea?
Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Or do you know any better way of doing it, which would work fully automated, i.e. without entereing the PW manually every time... The problem is for online backup I chose a very long PW of 50 chars which is saved within KeePass, as I cant remember it. So I couldn't even type it in and would have to open KeePass everytime. You'd never be doing this for backupping I'm afraid.

SyncBack Touch • Two Android devices with the same name

Hi,

I have SyncBackSE and Touch working on my phone to copy pictures from my phone to my home computer when my phone connects to my home WiFi network. I would like to do the same thing on my wife's phone. We both have Motorola Droid Turbo phones running Android 5.1. The Device ID is XT1254 on both phones. I don't see a way to change the device ID on the phone. How do I use SyncBackSE and Touch on two phones that have the same device ID?

Mike

Hi,

You can change the device ID that SyncBack Touch uses under the application settings. Open SyncBack Touch on the phone, go to Menu -> Settings and change the Device ID. Click Save when you are done.

Don't forget to update your profiles in SyncBackSE to use the new device ID.

Thanks,

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Download files to two places

I have a typical schedule in place that downloads any files from FTP to the local folder and skips any files that already exist on local.
When new files are downloaded to local, is there anyway to copy those newly downloaded files to another folder as well?

Hi,

Sorry, not supported. A profile in SyncBack can point to only one Source and one Destination location. Therefore, it is not possible to copy new files to a different folder (other than the destination folder).

Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • OneDrive for Business on Office 365

$

Hello,

I can see the OneDrive for Business active in my PC's system tray.

Image

It seems that Microsoft is already offering an application to sync my files between my disk & the Office 365 cloud.

The Microsoft sync is great because it is "set and forget" and runs in the background in real time (changes are instantaneously reflected to the cloud), but at the same time it does not offer the level of granularity of a SyncBack Pro.

Should I stick to the sync feature offered by Microsoft or turn to SyncBackPro instead ? Will not the 2 sync compete (eg. MS syncing files but also SyncBackPro syncing files)?

Note: I did look at this page but it does not answer my question. http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/help/cloud.htm

Is there a tutorial to use SyncBackPro with OneDrive for Business?
