Difference between these two options? 2nd option keeps file in a sub folder called $SVB$ whereas 1st keeps on its original place?

Decisions - Files:
Delete file from destination if it hasn't been modified within the last x days : 30 Days

Versioning:
Keep versions for a maximum of x days : 30 Days

I enabled to delete files on destination in mirror right mode after if it has not been modified for 7 days. I also enabled versioning for max 2 version and for 10 days.

After a file is deleted on left, it is also deleted on right after 7 days, but its versions in $SBV$ folder still exist even after 3 runs or 11 days later. So why versioning setting does not work so does not delete files in version folder?

Using backup feature to OneDrive was the main (only) reason for buying SyncBackPro. Not supporting comparison based on modification date/time (because of storing current date/time on OneDrive) is really disappointing.

What is the current recommended way of configuring backup to OneDrive?
Is it advisable to set "Do not replace newer files with older files" or "Ignore file modification date & time"?
Is there another way of SyncBackPro of remembering what version of a file was backed up (from log/journal file)?

Since I am mostly backing up personal photo/video materials (which files hardly ever change) options mentioned above feel save to set, right?

Hi,

SyncBackPro deletes outdated version files based on their versioned date & time stamps (that it date & time when the version file is created), but not based on the creation or modification date & time of the file. Probably, the versioned date & time stamps of the version files are not older than 10 days, hence they are not deleted from the $SBV$ folder.

You can view the Versioned date, Modified date and Created date of a version file by running the profile in restore mode. When the differences window is displayed, click on the small ‘V’ button next to a file, then a new window appears displaying the list of versioned files available for that file with their Versioned Date, Modified Date and Created Date. You can refer to this KB article for more details:

Thank you.

Using the BACKUP function I am ending up with more then 1200 files not copied to the external HDD.
Mostly, Windows 10 Files, as far as I could see.

If there's a setup that allows me to copy all files from C:\ (Windows 10 and all my stuff HDD) even if they're in use, please, let me know.

I'm really looking for an answer for that...

Thank you in advance!

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Fast email backup broken with V7.6.45.0 & V7.6.36.0

Have recently updated to V7.6.45.0 I discovered that all my email backups were doing the full slow scan as opposed to the normal fast scan, I downgraded to V7.6.36.0 (which I had downloaded but never got around to installing) and the same thing happened, I then downgraded to V7.6.8.0 which fixed the problem.

This is a important issue for me a slow scan takes 10's of minutes and is very likely to fail.

Andrew.

Hi,

Please note that our programs (SyncBackPro/SE/Free) are not designed to (and cannot) make an exact copy of a system drive. SyncBackPro is a backup utility designed to backup files-based data that are created by the user (that is, files created by you and do not backup system or applications). To read more about this, please click on the link below:

Is it possible to upload one specific file via ftp and after a certain period of time (in my case 30 minutes) download only this file from another folder on the destination server, which includes also other files (so I can't just download all the files in this folder)?

Thanks a lot,

Hi,

Do you want upload a single file to FTP server and download the same file to a different folder on the Source after 30 minutes?

If so, you can create an FTP profile in SyncBack with Source pointing to a folder on local drive (where the file is stored) and Destination to FTP server. You can either select that specific file from Modify > Simple > “Choose sub-directories and files” settings page (and deselect the remaining files/folders) or add an inclusion filter (under Modify > Simple > Change Filter settings page) to include only that file to your profile’s backup selection (Please read the help file for more details and examples on inclusion/exclusion filters. With Change Filter settings page opened, press F1 to open the contextual help). Then run the profile to upload the file from your local drive to FTP server.

To restore the same file to a different folder on Source:

Run that backup profile in restore mode. The Restore Wizard window will appear, and ask you a series of questions, from which you can use the options ‘Restore To’ to restore to a different folder on your Source (and ‘Restore From’ to restore from a specific folder on your FTP server). Then click on ‘Restore Now’ button to restore that file from FTP server to Source.

Please read the help file > Using SyncBackPro > Basic Operation > Restoring a Backup for more details.

Thank you.

Hello tbone,

Your script sounds as exactly what I need. I sometimes re-arrange a lot of data (folder + file names and structure) But the actual filecontent doesn't change. So I've been looking for a good solution to track file and folder renames.
I've tried smartsync but hashing takes a lot of time and until now I''ve settled for just re-copying the data into the new foldername structure. Because this was faster in the end.
(smartsync probably will also get faster after the initial run building the database with file hashes?)
But your solution might be the fastest after all, I would like to try it :)

SyncBackFree (freeware) • One Differences Window prompt for all selected profiles or profile groups

In my Daily group I've about 10 profiles. Sometimes I want only to know if there are any differences, other times I want to be informed about differences before I run the synchronisation. But any time I run this group, I get 10 prompts. That is 9 prompts too much.

Is it possible to get only one Differences Window prompt for all selected profiles or profile groups?

Hi,

Sorry, it's not possible to display a single Differences Window for all selected profiles or member profiles in a group, as the profiles in SyncBack are processed individually.

Thank you

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Error Message

$

Just wondering if someone can explain a failed backup that generated the following error message:

Failed to copy from Source : Cannot copy file (2): The system cannot find the file specified The file may have been deleted between the time it was scanned and the attempt to copy it was made

The file referenced is still in the source folder and rerunning the profile it is now also in the destination folder. What happened when the scheduled backup ran and why does it suggest the file was deleted?
While someone was working on that file at the time of the backup, the file was not deleted.

Also, when looking at the log files on the main page , I noticed a list of files with the following comments:

a)

The files are identical. Versions available.
or
b)

Only in Destination

as I expected only backups, I was prepared for a) but concerned that I have files only in b). Apart from me at some earlier stage having transferred these files accidentally ( find it hard to imagine how I could have done that given the issue affects a number of different folders), what else may have caused the files to be transferred instead of to be backed up?
Checking the log records I can see I have three logs available (is that something that can be configured?) and the number of skipped files changed from 107 three days ago to 112 two days ago.

Can someone please shed some light on how to read these changes. Obviously something has been happening before today when I got an error alert and this concerns me. These are scheduled backups and I assumed after having cross-checked some files the first time I ran the backup, things could go on autopilot unless I got a warning.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Profile start when shutting down

$

Dear all,

I recently installed a new Windows 10 Laptop for one of my customers. I also installed the newest version of SyncBack SE. I created a profile / backup-task and set it to run when the user is shutting down his machine.

This worked perfectly with Windows 7, but Windows 10 seems to have some problems.

This things can happen:

1. The backup starts but suddenly I'm back at the desktop.
2. The backup runs correctly but when I boot the laptop again autostart isn't working (OneDrive, SyncBack etc. not visible in tray)

Are there any known issues? And maybe any solutions? The obvious one - reinstall - has already been done. Also changing the KillTask Time Out in the registry.
