SyncBackSE (commercial) • Re: Profile start when shutting down

Hi,

I just tested with SyncBackSE V7.6.50.0, but I couldn’t reproduce your issue. Note that we have recently fixed an issue when running a profile on Windows shutdown/logoff. Please refer to the release note of V7.6.45.0:

https://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/changes.html

Therefore, if you are not using the latest version of SE, I would suggest you to upgrade and test the profile run to see if it resolves your problem:

http://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/software/SyncBackSE_Setup.exe

Do not uninstall and reinstall, or you'll lose your profiles & settings. Just install 'over the top'.

Thank you.

Are shared settings (such as email settings) included in the export when I export a profile that is using shared settings? And, if so, would the shared settings in the exported profile be 'restored' as shared settings if I import the profile on another computer running SyncBackPro?

Or is there another way to 'copy' shared settings to another computer?

Thanks in advance.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Failed to copy from Source

Dear All,

First post. Be gentle.

Trying to get to the bottom of persistent copying errors and as usual (!!) Apple is responsible.

EXACT MESSAGE

Failed to copy from Source : Safe copy failed. Failed to rename temp file: File does not exist

I have a master server storing all data and this concerns problem of copying files from this Windows Server with NTFS volumes to a remote QNAP NAS Share.

I find that the copy of files of the form ._<filename> fails

I find ALL of the failing files are to do with Apple Computers. My Windows server is a repository for all files and these are typically copies of files from Drive disks for products containing Window and MAC drivers.

In the syncback SE profile I tried the 3 different File Copying methods: Standard Windows, Explorer and Backup read/write : ALL FAIL

I notice the following things

1. Explorer file window from local NTFS to Local NTFS works
2. Explorer file window from Local NTFS to remote NAS share works
3. Open a Command line and copy command from ._<filename> FAILS
4. Obviously I have tried relaxing permissions and making sure Properties windows USER has FULL authority.
5. Cygwin command line copy from local NTFS to local NTFS works
6. If I change Syncback to do local NTFS directory to local NTFS directory target, it works!

So the situation is that the destination NAS QNAP fileshare can store the files because Explorer can simply cut and paste, however SyncBack cant seem to make the copy.

Anybody?

You need to make a change to the menu for your profile in windows scheduler. Open windows scheduler and find the profile you need to edit. Open it and scroll to to the profile on right. Right click on that profile under properties and then click on trigger. Hit edit, the edit trigger window will pop up. Put a check mark in the one time circle. Click Ok. Do not change anything else. Your profile will now run all the time with whatever schedule you set up in SyncBack. Make sure you reboot you computer. Your task will now run as scheduled. Windows 10 Annivesarary update broke the scheduler.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Backups Not Requiring Password

We are looking to roll out SyncBackPro throughout out company. Right now I have a copy of running in Evaluation mode which I understand is fully functional for 30 days. From Expert Mode, I have tried various levels of encryption, and set the password. It confirms the password click, "Apply," but after the backup runs, however, I am able to open the zip file by just double-clicking on the zip. It never asks for a password.

The documentation seems straight forward, so I can't imagine what I'm missing.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts and ideas.

So in case anyone else is experiencing this, it's not explained in the documentation. Apparently SyncBackPro doesn't encrypt the zip file, but only the files in the zip file. That means anyone who gets access to the zip archive can see all the files and folders inside, they just can't open the end file. I suppose that also means that you lose much of the functionality of this program in that you would have to load the program prior to being able to restore. That was one of our biggest selling points.

This is extremely disappointing. I hope the zip archives become password protected in the future.

Hi,

Yes, when you export a profile (select the profile > right click > choose ‘Export Profile’ from pop-up menu), SyncBack exports profile files, shared settings (database files if any) into a single .SPS file, so that you can easily import all the related profile files (including shared settings) into SyncBackPro on another computer.

Thank you.

Hi,

Sorry, there is no option in SyncBack to rename a Source/Destination file before or after the backup. However, if a file is renamed on one side, then it’s possible to rename the same file on the opposite side using “Detect file renames on left/right" of a SmartSync profile.

Please read this forum post for more details:

Hi,

Error messages:

Failed to copy from Source: Cannot copy file (2): The system cannot find the file specified The file may have been deleted between the time it was scanned and the attempt to copy it was made

are usually caused by files which were present during scan time but have since been deleted (or moved) by something else before the copy stage. However, as stated in your post if the file referenced was still in the source folder before and after the profile run, then we may need a support zip with debug logs to better understand the problem. Full instructions to create and submit a support zip are given here:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowledgebase/articles/213970-creating-a-debug-information-file

The files are identical. Versions available.

simply means that the Source and Destination files are identical (its last modification date/time stamps and sizes are identical on both sides), and there are version files available for that referenced file in a hidden $SBV$ folder (this is because you have enabled Versioning in your profile configuration and SyncBack creates a version of a file before the file on the destination is replaced by the actions of the profile).

Only in Destination

means the file exists only on Destination but not on Source, hence it is skipped (note that a backup profile does not delete anything on the Destination that is not on the Source, so the files that exists only on the destination are skipped). In addition, please read this KB article to understand the common reasons for ignoring or skipping a file:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowledgebase/articles/215208-most-common-reasons-for-files-being-skipped

Checking the log records I can see I have three logs available (is that something that can be configured?)

The number of log files to keep for each profile can be configured globally from:

SyncBack’s main-interface > Preferences menu > Log Settings page

Also, you can override this setting in each profile under:

Modify profile > Expert > Log settings page

Thank you.

It would be a nice added layer of security if my scrambled passwords didn't advertise what product I used with the bookholders.

Perhaps it could be customizable?

I'm sincronizing my data on a usb driver daily, but I don't want the task to be seen on the main window. Is there a way to do that?

Thank you in advance,

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Evaluating SyncBackPro

Hi

I'm currently evaluating SyncBackPro. After a number of frustrating days evaluating other tools, it seems like this one does the job, it just works and the interface is great.

I do have some questions/comment so far:
1) Is it possible to get a log for a job while it is running? It seems like log files (I have it set to the default HTML output) are only available after the job has completed?
2) Is it possible to upload files in parallel? It seems like it only supports 1x file at a time?
3) I've noticed that one of my jobs (download from Amazon) hung overnight. It was scheduled and the name was printed in italics which I believe confirms this. However, it hung and seems not to react to any commands (stop for example). I noticed later on that it did actually stop and the log file did not reveal any details on what might have been going wrong. Thought that I'd add this comment in case there is feedback on how to debug such scenarios.

I'd thought that I'd make a comment on Amazon Cloud Drive upload speeds as I've seen it being mentioned on the forums and this is also my cloud storage provider. So far it does not seem too slow based on the estimated time left for my upload as reported by SyncBackPro, it seems to be faster than the native cloud drive client and other tools such as Syncovery which I've tried. That said, is there any update from 2BrightSparks on whitelisting SyncBackPro? Also, the parallel uploads would also improve things further.

Lastly, is there a roadmap available for where the tool will go? As I have not bought it yet and still have 20+ days available on the eval it would help to understand the future direction of the tool (I've been bitten in the past where I bought a tool only to get a notification a few month later that the new version is available as a SaS and you have to pay monthly to get access to any new features).

Thanks,
Jaco

SyncBackFree ran two profiles twice daily, and then just stopped scheduled runs. When I discovered the lack of backups, I manually ran two profiles, and they updated the backup disc flawlessly. Next day they were still not running. This may have occurred after updating to the latest version, but I'm not sure. Any ideas/suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi,

Can you please let us know the version of Windows and version of SyncBackFree you are using? Note that we do not have a scheduler in SyncBack. We rely on Windows Task Scheduler (WTS) to trigger our program on the scheduled date/time to run the tasks. Therefore, WTS on your system is responsible for calling SyncBackFree to execute the profile at the scheduled date/time. But if WTS failed, then the profiles won't run at the scheduled time.

Can you also check if there is any errors in the Modify > When > Edit Schedule settings page and "Last Scheduled Run Error" column of SyncBackFree's main-interface after the scheduled time has been passed?

Thank you.

Sorry, not possible.

Parallel file uploads (or downloads) is not supported with Amazon Cloud service. Note that multi-threading in SyncBackPro is only supported with cloud services that allow threaded access.

If a profile run cannot continue due to hung/stuck issues, then there are some additional steps to do to generate a support zip. I would suggest you to submit a support ticket to support@2brightsparks.com, so that we can provide you with instructions on how to create a support zip with debug logs for further investigation.

Thank you.

I have several profiles which I want to run hourly. I found a post which advisd that for hourly posts I need to set up a schedule of 1 Day 23 hours.

This was working earlier today, but then all profiles stopped running. They show a next scheduled run time, but when this time is reached they do nothing, just update the next scheduled run time.

I am using Win 10 Professional.
