SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: why are my profiles being deleted

More from Peterc

When my copy of SyncbackFree is launched, the GUI should display a summary page showing all profiles with extra data under the headings Profile:Type:last run:Result:next run:left/source'
In my case, that page is presented as blank with no profiles shown. Previously run/stored/created profiles have all gone missing/been deleted and seem to be unavailable for import from the declared storage location of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MJLSoftware\Syncback, which seems to be an empty key.
The problem seems to occur most, but not every, every time SyncBackFree is launched (and closed), requiring profile import from a stand alone export storage location nearly every time the program is required.
The program has been uninstalled, a new install .exe program down loaded and SyncBackFree reinstalled. Same situation.

A couple of other strange things:
The SyncBackFree program installation doesn't create a desktop shortcut, leaving the user to do that that task manually after installation.
The program isn't listed as either running at startup or running in the background (to enable scheduled tasks to be run on time) and doesn't appear in the list of programs available to launch automatically at start. Should it be both listed and running?

Other than these hiccups, the program is great.
Any help would be appreciated.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Allow custom API key for Google Drive

If you let us specify our own api key for google drive, it would reduce load on your api key as well as provide better and more consistent performance, especially regarding rate limits.

How to make your own google drive api key.
 1. Log into the Google API Console with your Google account. It doesn’t matter what Google account you use. (It need not be the same account as the Google Drive you want to access)

 2. Select a project or create a new project.

 3. Under Overview, Google APIs, Google Apps APIs, click “Drive API”, then “Enable”.

 4. Click “Credentials” in the left-side panel (not “Go to credentials”, which opens the wizard), then “Create credentials”, then “OAuth client ID”. It will prompt you to set the OAuth consent screen product name, if you haven’t set one already.

 5. Choose an application type of “other”, and click “Create”. (the default name is fine)

 6. It will show you a client ID and client secret. Use these values in rclone config to add a new remote or edit an existing remote.

SyncBack Touch • Re: Syncback Touch - How to open on Windows 7

I'm having the same issues - but this article doesn't tell me where I am going wrong. Maybe I'm being a bit dim.

I have SB Pro bought, paid for and installed at home on W10. Great works well.

I have installed Touch at work (on W7). I understand that it runs as a service and that there is no UI

My question is how do the two connect? At the moment my work computer could be any computer on the internet so it can't be 'discoverable'.

Do I need to install Pro at work too? Is it the licence key that 'validates' the machines so they can talk?

Hey guys.

An folder called "images" gets filled with JPG files from my smartphones

they should be copied every night to an destination folder with the following format: destfolder\year\month\day

the values should be taken from every single JPG file
I have readed the help and some threas here about "variables" in destination folder, but sadly didnt found the rigth one :(
There is "%CREATEDDATETIME%" but help is stating, just when becking up to an email server.

Could this variable be used also when backing up to another NTFS drive, or is there another variable i can use?

thx

I will soon try to send the profile via mail.
I add an element that could help finding the solution....maybe...

It happens now that also if I manually start the profile it does not work....once...twice...no way...
Then I browse the NAS SyncFolder (destination) in Windows Explorer... and magically the profiles works again...also if I didn't change any setting in SYNCBACK

Hi,

Can you please clarify your question "Set Destination directory from file creation date. the values should be taken from every single JPG file"?

Do you want to backup each file on source to a different destination directory of the format "destfolder\year\month\day", where year\month\day is the creation date of the source file?

Thank you.

Is there anyway to "trick" SyncBack into deleting files on my NAS that I am not backing up/syncing/mirroring from?
What I want to do:
I have a folder that gets security camera stills and video on my NAS. I want that folder to delete any files older than X number of days. The files come directly from the cameras and are not being backed, synced or mirrored.
Can Syncback be used to accomplish this?

I want to backup my files by secure FTP. I want the filenames to be encrypted and password protected so that even if the server is hacked, or if the server upload/download traffic is intercepted, no private information can be accessed. So the questions are:

1. Can SB Pro change/encrypt filenames? For example the filename "salary information for employees.Xls" should become XrTyT5.fR4 (for example)

2. Can the contents of every file be encrypted with my chosen password, so the contents cannot be read? I know there is zip compression, but I need password protection.

In my opinion both of these two features are crucial for complete protection of privacy.
If the above two features are available, then:

3. Can you recommend a good Secure FTP host for about 100-200GB of data?

Hi, I am using latest version of SyncBackPro in the standalone version (company PC so no access to administrator for an installation) and when I hit "Run" to see what will be copied, the list of proposed actions are displayed but both buttons "Cancel" and "Run" does nothing.
If I run the task unattended, it does its job.
A bug?
thanks

Hi,

You can add variables like %DAYOFWEEK% or %DAYOFWEEKNAME% to your destination path (e.g D:\MyBackup\%DAYOFWEEKNAME%) to create 5 full backups of your data. Then create a schedule task for your profile (under When > Edit Schedule settings page) and configure it to run only 5 days a week at the scheduled date/time (to keep only 5 full backups of your data on the destination).

Please read this forum post for more details on how those variables work:

Thank you.

I've looked everywhere but can't see a way to filter files not to copy if they are over a certain file size.
I am doing a mirror to Box and Box has a max upload size limit of 250MB. I would like to set a rule that says ignore files over 250MB. Is this possible?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Anyone using BackBlaze B2?

Hi,
(im more curious with others experiences with B2 on Syncback Pro v8)

I am testing with B2 on SBP v8 , im trying to backup 3 x Win Server boxes (just starting with 1 of the 3 Win servers for now, to test with) , due to the large number of small files, its showing that the backup will take nearly 6 months to run, after running for about 48h (about 1 TB of data, but alot of small files, as is common in office settings).

this biz is on a fiber line 100/100, and im getting great speeds to B2 - the issue is that SBP v8 will only upload 1 file at a time to B2. Ive confirmed with support that multiple, simultaneous connections are only used on files above 100mb (at which pint they are essentially split and half uses 1 connection and half is sent via a 2nd, simultaneous connections).

How are others experiences with the actual upload of files to B2? ( i am also using zip compression + AES256 as thats basically a requirement for cloud backups, for security. I maybe wrong, but even without zip+encryption, i dont see where there would be a speed improvement as its still 1 file uploaded at a time + B2 api requests prior to that 1 file upload at a time)

tks

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Backblaze B2 sends 1 file at a time (how to handle lots of files?)

$

Im looking for input or experience for those using B2 (back blaze cloud) or even other experiences using cloud backup services would be helpful.

Im trying to setup Cloud backup for a biz client, where they have a few windows servers. On the first server im testing, the issue is the inital backup will take nearly 6 months (after it has been running for about 49h, so its a real estimate).

The issue here is not the internet (fiber, 100/100, with great speeds to B2), nor the server (SSD raid array).

We do need to use Client side encryption (as should be done with any cloud backup- so SBP setting of Low Compression ZIP + AES and dont combine into a single zip, ofcourse), but it seems that SBP will only upload 1 file at a time (so this is the delay, especially when there are lots of small files, as is standard with Business windows file servers). I do have SBP Cloud->Advanced set to use 6 simultaneous connections (support confirms this only applies to the splitting of large files over 100mb though) The total data amount isnt that large ( 800gb to 1tb). Im fine with the inital backup taking a while, but at this rate, even subsequent smaller updates to B2 (ie daily or weekly change only updates) will take way too long as well.

I have confirmed with support that multiple, simultaneous connections are only used on files above 100mb (at which pint they are essentially split and half uses 1 connection and half is sent via a 2nd, simultaneous connections).

What are others experiencing with B2 + SBP? (or even SBP + other cloud destiaions- are files uploaded one a time also?)

(we love SBP and it has been EXCELLENT for all our local backup destinations).

(it would be great if SBP could simultaneous upload all files to B2)

Thanks

To be clear, my issue is not with scanning or anything other than the sending of the actual files to B2.

(just wanted to clear that up as ive seen other posts about SBP scanning speeds prior to upload to cloud, BTW- ive actually *never* had any slow scanning issues with SBP, even with *lots* of files + filters, and various local destinations (ie local disks, ftps, SMB shares)
