SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Back up date modified/created mismatch problem

Hi,

Amazon Drive does not allow the last modification date & time of a file to be changed (which our program uses to detect file differences on both sides), instead the timestamps are set to the date/time stamps they are uploaded to the server. This is the limitation of the cloud service not SyncBackPro. To get around such limitations, SyncBackPro creates a local database to store the details of the files that cannot be stored on the cloud service.

Therefore, if you want to use Amazon Drive with SyncBackPro from more than one computer, then we recommend enabling the option ‘Upload the database to the cloud’ under:

Modify > Expert > Cloud > Advanced settings page

So that any changes made to the details will be visible to all SyncBackPro installations. Please read the contextual Help for more info about this option. With Cloud > Advanced settings page opened, press F1 to open the contextual help.

Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • API for SyncBackPro?

Does SyncBackPro have an API?

I'm daydreaming of writing a program which could remove a sub-directory from a profile. It would then deduce the location of the corresponding backup directory and remove that. If I'm not backing up that directory, then there's usually no reason to keep the backup directory.

One moment after starting this thread I realised that what I'm trying to achieve could be implemented more easily in SyncBackPro than via an API and an external program.

So, here is the associated suggestion:

When I mark a subdirectory not to be backed up, could I have a popup window asking me if I wanted to delete the corresponding backup directory?

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: No time stamp update to "Last Successfull Run"

It's because the copy of SB that ran your scheduled profile (which copy Windows Task Scheduler has closed again by now) is not the copy of SB that you are viewing. A copy of SB run by the Windows Task Scheduler often runs in session-0 (this is decided by Windows, not SB) and is limited (by Windows security) in the information it can pass to any other open copy of SB. If you re-started SB (or, the PC, then SB), you would avoid the issue because SB scans all profiles for latest metadata when it starts up. But if neither the PC nor the foreground copy of SB are re-started in the meantime, you sometimes need to manually ask SB (via F5 or equivalent) for the metadata of all the profiles to be re-scanned.

Is there by any chance a copy of vivaldi.exe in the C:\Program Files\... path? If so, it might be the last thread to close, and telling SB to monitor that instance (instead of the \AppData\ instances) might help?

Sorry, but I run 32-bit Firefox (for compatibility with something else) and don't plan to install any other browsers (because they are not compatible with the 'something else' at all), so I'm not in a position to test here...

It is not 100% clear what you are asking for/about, but if you are hoping for an option where you must enter a password before you can run SB, then that is not supported. There is a profile-level option to require that a password be provided before a user is permitted to modify or delete a profile, but not for running the profile 'as it is', nor for running the program itself.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Pointless, annoying confirmation dialog should not appear

$

0
A typical workflow:

  1. Select a task in the main SyncBackFree window
  2. Click on Modify
  3. Click on button 'Choose sub-directories and files' - the 'File & Folder Selection' window appears
  4. Check that everything is in order; it is - no changes are required
  5. Click on Cancel to dismiss the window
Expected behaviour: the 'File & Folder Selection' window closes.
Actual behaviour: a modal 'Confirm' window appears, asking if I really want to continue.

That is rather annoying: there's no point in asking for confirmation to proceed when no changes have been done, since there is no risk of loss of information by continuing. When you have to do that for a few dozens tasks, it's quite a lot of pointless clicks to go through... :|

Please can you put a condition on the Confirm window to only appear if the selection of folders and files has changed? [-o<

Thank you! =D>

Hi,

We'll have a look at it but we can't promise a fix date. Any fix will be mentioned in the app's changes history on our website.

Hi,

Please send an email to support@2BrightSparks.com with your SyncBackPro version and version of Windows you are using, so that we can provide the settings to configure and the important points to take note of when using such a backup schema.

Thank you.

Not as a 'clickable option', no. But you can do it by chaining Profile-2 to be executed via Programs-Before > After of Profile-1, so that after Profile-1 completes, the Programs-Before > After setting in Profile-1 will execute Profile-2 by calling it on the command-line*. Programs-Before > After has a default setting which will abort running the command (to trigger Profile-2) if Profile-1 fails with any error. Of course, you need to ensure you do not enable the override setting "Run the program even if the profile fails", or you will neatly defeat your objective.

Note that doing this will launch a separate copy of SB to run Profile-2 (and that separate SB copy will close after completing that run). One more copy of SB in memory temporarily is unlikely to cause you problems, but it's not recommended to chain numerous multiple profiles this way. You can also chain a Group (e.g. to run Profile-2/3/4, by making/calling a Group to do just that) after Profile-1 has completed successfully, but you can't use this method to run profile-4 after a Group of profiles-(e.g. 1/2/3) all complete without error, because there is no Programs-Before > After section in a Group.

* tip to generate a correctly formatted command-line for use in Programs-Before > After: make a shortcut to Profile-2 (drag the 2nd profile to the desktop to create one); right-click shortcut > Properties, and Copy the internal command-string to the clipboard; switch back to SB > Modify view of Profile-1 and Paste the string into the edit box of Programs-Before > After. After successful testing, you can delete or retain the shortcut as you prefer. This tip also works with a Group.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Always copy ALL files to destination

$

Trying to set up a profile that copies ALL the files from the source to the destination ALWAYS.
Regardless of time stamp, file sizes changes etc. This is because the source is a Novell Share mounted on a Windows server and although windows says the file is the same, it definitely is not.
Is there ANY way I can force SyncBack SE to perform a FULL copy everytime it runs? (FastBackup is not an option since I have multiple profiles copying the same directory).
I don't want to go back to .bat scripts. :P

Thank you for any advice.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Access Denied Trying to Edit Schedule After Creation

Ok--so I am running a schedule on a user profile that does not have administrator rights but has access to the files needed to a backup. I create a schedule then edit task schedule to check "run with highest privileges. Once I do that I can not longer edit the schedule it tells me that access is denied. Obviously there must be a folder somewhere I need to give the user privileges for. Any clue which one? The use has privileges to the Task folder in the Windows folder so that's not it. Any idea which folder?

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Re: Always copy ALL files to destination

Hi,

SyncBack (by default) in each run scans source against destination and copies only new/changed files from source to destination. However, if you want SyncBack to copy all files from source to destination then you may have to enable the option "Delete ALL the files and folders in destination/right before scanning for changes" under:

Modify > Expert > Copy/Delete > Advanced settings page

Then SyncBack (in each run) will delete data on your destination before scanning for changes, and copies all files again from source to destination. As stated in the help file, you should be extremely careful with this option as you could very easily delete all your files. Also, please ensure that you don't enable the other option "Delete ALL the files and folders in Source before scanning for changes", otherwise SyncBack will delete all files from Source drive.

Please read the help file for more details on this option. With Copy/Delete > Advanced settings page opened, press F1 to open the contextual help.

Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Backup to cloud with limited file size

$

Perhaps this is a feature request or perhaps I just haven't found a way to yet work it out.

I'm backing up to unlimited storage in the cloud but I am still subject to a 250MB per-file maximum. Many of my home videos range into the 1+ GB range. I was hoping that I could use the compression option to split large files but apparently that option is only available if I wish to backup all source files in one large multi-part zip. This doesn't allow for efficient backup of modified files. It would be great if I had the option to zip-split (actually without compression) any file that exceeds my cloud storage file size limits.

If this is not an option anytime soon, does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might do this?

Thanks.

Ok so I have three profiles scheduled to run they all run and when I click on the profile to see the summary screen for that profile it shows the task ran and Windows scheduler shows that the tasks ran but the main Syncback screen does not show the last task run automatically only the last run I do manually. Shouldn't it show the last run regardless of whether it was by task scheduler or manually?
