SyncBackFree (freeware) • Program won't open

When I start the program, it shows the icon in the task tray, but I can't get the program to open so I can manage it/run backups. I have v8.3.6.0 installed. The only way I can close it is to go into task manager and end task. What do I need to do to get this to work again?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Can a backup destination be a local web address?

$

I'm having local networking issues that are preventing my Windows 10 64-bit client from accessing a previously mapped network drive (pointing to a USB storage device connected to my Netgear home router using Netgear's Readyshare service). My SBP backup profiles used to work fine when Windows could access the old mapped network location, but I want to know if I can reconfigure my backup (technically mirror) profiles to use a web address as a destination instead. Because while I cannot access my old mapped drive at "\\READYSHARE\USB_Storage\" I can access the following internal addresses using my web browser:

http://readyshare.routerlogin.net/shares/USB_Storage/
http://10.0.0.1/shares/USB_Storage/

Can SBP use these internal addresses as destinations, and what is the proper syntax for pointing it there? The software documentation and knowledge base doesn't seem to provide much info about using these types of addresses as destinations, but if SBP supports cloud uploads I assume there is a way to do this somehow.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or assistance. Alternatively, I could enable FTP access on my router's Readyshare service, but wanted to see if access via http would work first.

Ideas and general discussion • How does Syncback handle recovery of lost files in a pool?

$

0
I finally dumped FlexRAID a few months ago and have been experimenting with Stablebit DrivePool and SnapRAID in the meantime. It has been a slow evolution since I started with 3x2TB Seagates in 2011 and now I am at a crossroads.

I have always backed up my sensitive docs, photos and music to external HDDs but l left my DVD and BD Rips to the whims of my RAID 5/6 setup. Recently I began backing up my docs and photos to Google Drive via StableBit Cloud Drive and automated with SyncBack. I have backed up my music files to Amazon Music and Google Music.

That still leaves me with 19TB of movies. I was going to go with SnapRAID and 2 parity drives and continue to take my chances. However, I recently picked up 18TB of additional storage for about $350 (8TB WD Easystore and 2x5TB Seagate Backup Plus drives at Costco) and after doing the math, I realized that I could just as easily pair that with the 10TBs worth of drives I needed for parity and I could create a mirror on a separate PC. I could drop the idea of parity/RAID which would save wear and tear on the HDDs and there should be very little down time to rebuild an array in the event of failure.

So, now my primary server has a Stablebit DrivePool of 30TB (plus an additional 5TB Hot Swap) on 10 HDDs of differing sizes from 2TB to 5TB. My mirror has a Stablebit DrivePool of 22TB on 5 different drives from 2TB to 8TB. Syncback is about halfway through the 3 day process of copying everything over to the new pool.

I am just trying to figure out how to automate backup and recovery to be as simple as possible. I plan on running Syncback once a week from Server--->Mirror but my foresight has me wondering how I locate lost files if I lose a drive in the server since the drives in the pools are not 1:1. If Syncback is spreading the files out across the disks (and it appears to be doing this) then how do I know what to recover, short of just copying and pasting everything back to the main server? That would be a days long process and I would rather find a way of just identifying the missing files and replacing them from backup.

Is their software out there that can do incremental 1:1 mirrors and allows for simple, quicker identification and recovery of only the lost files? Maybe Syncback can do this... luckily I have never had to find out.

Hi, we've tested on Fall Creators update and cannot reproduce this. The error is because the SFTP component is either not there or is not registered in Windows. A re-install of SyncBackPro may fix it.

Into the main window in column "Next Execution" (Dutch: "Volgende uitvoering") must be shown the next date and next time.

The next date is correct, but the next execution time is not shown. It seems that the last execution time is displayed. See figure:

Ideas and general discussion • Re: Suggestion-Duration column

In the Pro versions, you can add your own column by use of an installable script to modify the SB main screen (note: such installable scripting is not supported in Free/Lite/SE versions). There is a script ('Duration') to do so on the Scripting page and general help on installing/using scripts in the Pro Help (there may also be script-specific notes as Remarks inside the script itself, depending on which script you use). You are of course free (at your own risk) to edit such scripts to match any desired formatting, etc., but note that as per a relevant KB article, 2BS do not offer bespoke assistance on writing or debugging scripts.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • [cannot prompt user] error

I am running SyncBack Pro V8.3.6.0. I am trying to sync my local server data to Box. I have setup a profile to sync my E drive to box which was working until a couple of weeks ago and I started receiving the [cannot prompt user] message in the log files. This is ran on a schedule via task manager and is preferred to be unattended.

Any Ideas as to why or what is happening here?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Not sure if it is relevant, but two of of your profiles (#2 & #3) don't match the last run time either (and #3 doesn't even have a Status (result) value...not sure what's happening there)

It might help if you post screenshot/s of your actual settings (for an example profile - suggest #4 or #5) that show what time you have set...

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Log not being emailed when run unattended

Hi.

I am using SyncBackFree on various workstations.

On one machine, the log isn't being emailed after the profile is run unattended.

Settings are correct and the same as the other workstations.

However, testing the settings works (a test email sends fine) and when the profile is run manually, the email sends.

Any ideas?

Oliver.

By "run unattended", do you mean "Run (Unattended)" as per right-click profile > context menu (alt. same option in Task menu with profile selected)?

Or, do you mean "Scheduled"?

If you mean the latter, have you tried the former (if not, try it & report back)?

Reason I ask is that you say "manually" works / "run unattended" does not - but you can 'Run (Unattended)' manually...

Hello,
I just connected my Galaxy S6 with 32GB to my Windows 7 computer. All seems to work. I could set up a profile in Syncbackpro. When I run it tells me that it will need 1.5 DAYS to make the backup? What could be wrong?

best regards
Andreas

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Backup files from Smartphone to PC

Hello,

I have a Galaxy S6 and a windows 7 PC. I can connect the Galaxy via USB to my PC, can access it via the file manager, but can not connect the drive with SyncBackPro to setup and run backups.

Backup via WiFi and Touch seem to be very slow, why can I not use the fast USB connection?

Andreas
