SyncBackSE (commercial) • Win10 Fall Creators Update: SyncBackSE 5.20.0.0 cannot see OneDrive folder

Hi,

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (v1709)
SyncBackSE 5.20.0.0

Up until now I've not had a reason to upgrade, however since upgrading to the Fall Creators Update SyncBackSE cannot see the OneDrive folder. When I click "Choose subdirectories and files" the OneDrive folder isn't listed any more.

My backup is set to "Mirror Right" and running a backup deleted my entire OneDrive folder from my backup drive

I think it's related to the new OneDrive Files On-Demand feature because if I untick in OneDrive Settings --> "Save space and download files as you use them" the OneDrive folder is shown again.

What's strange is the OneDrive folder has a mixture of placeholders but thousands of locally stored files too. So I don't understand why the entire folder disappears.

1. Why is this happening?
2. Is this related to the Fall Creators Update OneDrive Files On-Demand feature?
3. Is it an issue in newer versions of SyncBackSE?

I appreciate I've got an old version.

Thanks

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Issue with deleting extension-only files

If I configure a profile to prompt me to delete folders only in destination (if run attended), then SyncBackPro fails to delete those folders that contains a file with only an extension but no name (in my case ".crc").
All other files in the folder are deleted, but since it fails to delete the ".crc" file the folder will also remain.

It seems to be a problem for SyncBackPro to recognize such files as deletable, even though they are backuped correctly.

I run SyncbackPro V8.3.6.0 (x64).

Regards,
/Mikael

Hi,

Please note that during a profile run the "estimated time left" indicator displayed may be very different to the actual time taken for the profile to complete. Please read this KB article for more details:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... ofile-runs

However, if you to continue to run the profile, then SyncBack will recalculate the estimated time and displays the reduced time near the progress bar. If you notice that profile run is very slow with SyncBack Touch then submit a support zip with debug logs for investigation. Full instructions for creating and submitting the support zip are given here:

I think this SFTP uses newer algorythm to crypt and decrypt than yours in the syncback.
The Connection with this SFTP-Server on the same Server works with the programs filezilla or winscp.
Is there any update for the decryption algorythms in the near future?

Note: previous reply above is a broken link now because the V8 BETA forum section is removed now (I guess, to avoid confusion with references to early-day settings that are different now and so on).

The upgrade process to V8 (if you already have an 'older model'') is now finalized, and can be found here in the 2BS Knowledge Base

Thanks for the reply.

I have tested again.

It does not work when 'Run (Unattended)' is clicked.

It doesn't work when it is run on a schedule either.

Using the test email settings button does send a test email though.

I paid the upgrade fee from v7 to v8. During the install of v8 I was expecting to see something about installing 32-bit vs 64-bit, but I didn't notice anything. When the install/upgrade finished, help\about says I have the 32-bit version of SyncBackSE v8. How do I install the 64-bit version of SyncBackSE v8?

Thanks,

Somehow, after searching all over the website, I found a page which has the 32-bit and 64-bit versions. I downloaded the 64-bit. As the instructions say to do, I exported my 32-bit profiles, closed SyncBackSE, and started to uninstall 32-bit. It's been stuck at "Uninstalling SyncBackSE.." with the progress bar completely empty. But finally - after I started writing this message - after about 25 minutes, it did uninstall my 32-bit version. I then installed the 64-bit version and imported my 3 profiles. I'll assume it will work fine from there.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi, assuming you only want it to run Monday to Friday (?) then you need to

  • open the Schedule dialog and click the Weekly radio-button
  • check/edit the default Start date shown to suit the day you want the new regime to start from (the suggested default is often inappropriate, but also easy to miss, so be sure to check/edit)
  • edit the default Start time to 08:00
  • leave the default 'Recur every [1] week' setting as it is
  • tick the Monday through Friday checkboxes (leaving Saturday/Sunday unticked)
  • click the Repeating tab, click the 'Run this profile every' checkbox and set the values as
  • 'Every' 0 days, 0 hours, 15 minutes, 0 seconds 'for a Duration of' 0 days, 9 hours, 0 minutes, 0 seconds
Bear in mind the Start time takes care of the 0800 run and a Duration of 9 hours covers the period 0815-1700. Do not tick the 'Indefinitely' option or you will switch out the Duration limit of 9 hours and achieve exactly the frequency you have now (running all night/weekend, etc).

Beware the Day values being set to 1 by default by the Windows Task Scheduler rules. Note that the settings you can see are a subset of the MS-defined defaults/options. There is no Scheduler in SyncBack, it is a drill-down into the Windows Task Scheduler.

If your PC may sleep, hibernate, etc. (for example during lunchtime), give some thought to enabling the option 'Wake the computer to run this task' (on the Misc tab). This option should also wake the PC (if it is sleeping) at 07:59 etc.

I would suggest do not enable the '\run ASAP after missed' setting (also on Misc tab), as you only have 15 minutes gap before the Task will trigger again by the timers anyway.

If you have difficulty getting your head around the settings, it may help to think of it as two loops, where Recur[rence] is the [more or less mandatory] outer loop, and Repeat is the [optional] inner loop. Your use-case needs both because you want/need two cycles, a Weekly (on certain days) cycle and an Every 15 Minutes (for a certain period) 'within' that outer Weekly (certain-days) cycle.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Zip Dropbox files to local drive - no files found

$

Hi,

I am evaluating SyncBackPro. I want it to copy Dropbox files to a local drive, zipped (and encrypted).

The connection with Dropbox is working. Files are being copied to the selected folder when set up without compression. However as soon as I enable the 'Compress the files on Dropbox into a Zip file' and run the task, the result is 'Success, however no files were found'. Not any file is copied and no zips are to be found. I see the warning that compression to a single file is disabled, but if I understood it correctly it should be possible to get every file in a separate zipfile, compressed (and encrypted). Can anyone confirm that this is possible and what settings should be looking at to make this work?

Thanks in advance,

Mathias

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Zip Dropbox files to local drive - no files found

Sorry, can't be done (at least, not with a single* profile). This KB article explains why not (the reason/limitation also applies to Cloud servers as well as FTP servers, email servers, etc.). To clarify

'Compress the files on Dropbox into a Zip file'

more 'lengthily' means 'Compress the files [copied to - thus, stored ] on Dropbox into a Zip file' - or (conversely, so files stored on DropBox are downloaded to 'local storage' as you are trying to do) 'treat the files on Dropbox' as though they are compressed already' (i.e. 'download them then decompress them')

And of course, such a profile will (with Compression switched in) look for compressed files** on the cloud side, and not find any (unless you have any files there that are zipped already) - hence the 'No [compressed] files found' error that you got with Compression (on cloud side) switched in.

* the only way is to have two profiles in a Group (run sequentially) where profile-1 copies 'raw' files from Dropbox to a local or LAN buffer location (uncompressed/unencrypted) and then profile-2 (set to use compression/encryption) copies/compresses/encrypts those raw local files from the buffer to a compressed/encrypted local location (disk, LAN, etc). Of course this means you need to maintain a local (non-cloud) buffer location storing unencrypted copies of the cloud files, which I guess you don't want or you would be planning to store them that way in the first place.

** in more detail, the profile will be looking for files with the same extension as specified in Compression > Advanced > Filename extension to decompress - which it is unlikely to find unless you uploaded some (given that this is the opposite of what you are trying to do). If it did happen to find some, it would of course try to decompress/decrypt them after download/before storing the result locally.
