I see now that Rango already raise that issue.

Hi.
I´m new here and never used syncbackpro before. I read some reviews and want to try the program. But my dubts are about how to use the program.
I have a HD with Documents, music etc. But I also have another HD just for Backup and also an external HD for Backup. I copied the files from my manin drive manually, but it spends a lot of time and sometimes I forget to copy some things.
So, I read that Syncback does it. But I want to know how it works.
I want to keep all my data on the main drive, and also on the Backup drives. If I delete and/or create something on the main drive, the same will happen on my both Backup Drives (but not reversed if possible). I don´t want to run everything in real time, just once a week.
Can Syncback do it for me?
Thanks for any help.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Feature Request: Skip file during backup process

Hello,

Some times, during the backup process, while syncback is coping a big file to FTP, I wish to skip that file.

The only way to do this, is to stop the job, run it again, and ask to skip the file in the dif. windows.

It would be nice to allow skip a file during the backup process.

Hi,

sometimes, during the backup process, I notice that few files were not copy because of an error.

I need to wait for the job to complete in order to see why.

It would be nice to have the ability to see a temporary log during the backup process.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Briefcase Replacement?

$

Hopefully won't be too long-winded, but I want to lay out a scenario to see which, if any, of the SB software would fill the need.

Windows 10 just completely removed the Briefcase functionality, and I have a client who utilized it extensively. He had folders set on a shared network drive attached to a Win 2008R2 server, and briefcases to those folders on his laptop. He also had other users in the same network making changes within those folders, who were using Windows 7, 8, and 10. The primary connection was between himself (Win10) and the server share drives (Server08R2). The other users made changes directly within the shared folders, not as briefcases. He takes his laptop out on a regular basis, and works on those briefcase files. They are (were) then synced when he returned to the building.

It looks to me like a simple single free license for his computer, and an SB SE license for the server would be the answer. I only need the synchronization process, and I prefer it to be continual, and also not to continually blow up if he's not on site for the sync to take place. Will my proffered option serve this need? Thanks in advance for the responses, and for your time :)

Hi,

I want to keep all my data on the main drive, and also on the Backup drives. If I delete and/or create something on the main drive, the same will happen on my both Backup Drives

You need to create 2 Mirror profiles in SyncBackPro to backup files to two different backup drives. A Mirror profile type in SyncBack will copy all new/changed files within scope from your Source (not otherwise de-selected/limited/filtered-out) to Destination and delete files/folders on Destination which are deleted on the Source, thereby making both Source/Destination a 'Mirror/1-to-1' set of each other (with more or less same sizes on the Source and Destination).

Please refer to this article for the detailed steps to install and create your first profile in SyncBackPro:

https://www.2brightsparks.com/resources ... setup.html

However, when selecting the profile type, please remember to select Mirror type (instead of Backup in the 3rd screen of the Profile creation wizard).

I don't want to run everything in real time, just once a week.

You can create a schedule task for your profile to run it automatically at the scheduled date/time once a week under:

Modify Profile > Expert > When > Edit Schedule settings page

then select Weekly at the top of the window and tick the check box next to the day you want to run the profile (e.g. Mon/Tue/Wed etc.,). You can also configure the date/time of your schedule task as per the requirement.

Thank you.

Hi,

Sorry, it’s not possible to skip a large file during the copy stage. However, if you want SyncBack to skip/ignore large files based on their sizes, then you can do so by configuring the option "ignore files more than [X] Bytes in size" under:

Modify > Expert > Compare Options > File Size settings page

Then SyncBack will ignore files of size greater than X bytes and copy the remaining files to Destination. Please read the help file for more details. With Compare Options > File Size settings page opened, press F1 to open the contextual help.

Thank you.

Hi,

When the profile is running, click on the ‘error count’ link on the top right corner of the progress panel to open a temporary log file in your default text editor.

Thank you.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Confirmation of Deleting files: how to avoid???

$

Hi, I'm a happy user of Syncback free which I think is a powerful tool for syncing and backup.
I have just an annoying problem. Normally I need to backup large profiles with a lot of data. It takes like 45 minutes only to analyze the source and checking the mirrored files in the destination. The problem is, after that, it sends another message to confirm for deleting files (all my profiles are set to mirror). Why? it seems logical to me that my goal is to delete destination files because this is a mirrored profile. The problem is that normally I leave the computer turned on all the night to perform this kind of tasks, and the day after I found the PC stucked at this confirmation message and no backup were done.
This is a way to avoid this message?

Normally I run profiles with "no action changes allowed" but it doesn't fix the roblem.
Thanks

I don't see where that would violate their ToS, and other programs already allowing this (rsync is extremely popular for instance). People using their own API key would already have to signup and agree to the Google API ToS and actions performed using that API key would be their responsibility, not yours which would actually reduce 2BrightSparks liability footprint in those instances.

Does the dialog you see mention 'percentages' of files that would be deleted? If so, it is likely responding to settings (possibly the defaults) on

Modify profile > Expert mode > Copy/Delete > Warnings

either adjust the levels to suit your reality, or turn off the traps completely. Note that the factory-default values for these traps for a new profile are '100%' throughout, so either someone has already modified these traps (or, changed the defaults) to a lower value or your profile is trying to delete (or replace) all files on one side, which is unusual, to say the least. F1 on Warnings page for contextual help.

If the dialog you are seeing does not mention percentages, suggest provide a screenshot to help anyone trying to assist

SyncBackPro (commercial) • OneDrive (Business) - Scanning time a deal breaker :(

Hello,

Trialling SyncBackPro for Onedrive (Business) sync after a flaky experience with official OneDrive app that freezes when lock files are detected. it failed to even upload my whole data set (~800GB) and i was very concerned any hiccup would force me to redownload the 800GB. i was very impressed with SyncBackPro doing a great, reliable job of initial sync.

I was hoping to use Smart Sync in real-time with "Run this profile when any files or directories are changed...."

devastated to see it has to re-scan the entire OneDrive cloud each time :( takes almost 9 hours. i see this "problem" referenced in older posts - and the official response is "how else would SyncBackPro work out the changes? it must full scan".

Surely OneDrive (and other cloud) APIs allow you to query "list file changes since xx:xx (last run)" ?? and use that instead of a full scan?

any solution? or any solution in the pipeline?

CORRECTION!!! it does appear to do clever API stuff! just did a scan and sync in <10 minutes. awesome.

first step it says "Getting Delta Objects" (or something) which must a list of modified folders on OneDrive. it the scans this subset.

im guessing -
  • initial sync upload +800GB
  • first sync - OneDrive reports all folders have changed because they are all new, so a full scan occurs - 9 hours in my case
  • third sync - true delta. only appears to only scan changed folders

super happy. scanning the local drive is now the "slow" problem i might slice up the folders a bit more

very viable solution. way better than official OneDrive app (for server - large drives)

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Profiles not running

$

I have a strange occurrence when the profile schedule is set. A profile is setup to run at, let's say 10:30am every Saturday once a week. Now I am using SBF version 8.3.16.0. My system is a Windows 10 64-bit Pro 1709, the only difference is all my systems previous to this all worked well. Right at 10:30am on Saturday the backup would run. I just installed 1709 along with 8.3.16.0 and this does not work.

Now what I see is the schedule date and time, that time comes and nothing happens. I check SBF and it says the last run was still from the previous week and that the next time to run is next week so it thinks it ran, but it did not. I get
Last Run - 11/4/2017
Result - Success
Next Run - 11/19/2017

I read in the forum about unchecking the "Ignore NTFS junction points" under Attributes but that does not work. I checked my settings against other systems I have (Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10 1703) and they match-up with my system. I may have missed something so I am here to see if anyone else can help out.

Or maybe this is not a SBF issue and more of Windows 10 1709? Just not sure and out of ideas what is causing this.

We do not have a scheduler in SyncBack. We rely on Windows Task Scheduler (WTS) to trigger our program on the scheduled date/time to run the tasks, but if the task scheduler fails to invoke SyncBackFree to run the task at the schedule date/time then profile will fail to run.

As the schedule task worked fine before the Windows update, I would suggest deleting and recreating the schedule task from:

Modify profile > When > Edit Schedule settings page

to see if it helps?

I read in the forum about unchecking the "Ignore NTFS junction points" under Attributes but that does not work.

You need to un-tick that option only when using OneDrive client (on Windows 10 computer) to sync files with the OneDrive server. If not, please enable that option.

Thank you.
