Hello Swapna,

I don't think that google drive supports fast backup option because I have stored my documents and images on my drive and I can easily retrieve it from any place.

Hi, after some more testing, i've found that it works with new tasks, with a different option...
I'm french, i'll to translate option : in task planification, i've unticked "do not store password. Profile only use local ressources".
Maybe it's only a workaround, but it works for me.

It's strange because i use this software for more than 2 years, with same backups, and i'd never met this "bug"...

I have gotten in the habit of using file extension filters for both whitelisting and blacklisting extensions, after have gone through two ransomware hits. So far it seems to work fine (haven't actually had a genuine test of it yet and hopefully never will).

I have maybe 13 profiles total and when I need to add or remove something from a filter, I have to do it one at a time for each profile. This is tedious, to say the least. It occurred to me that having a "global" filter list would be really useful for those who have a lot of profiles and want to ensure certain file types are never copied by any profile. This would be in addition to the per-profile filtering that's already in place.

I've looked around and found nothing like this in the software already and no forum posts about it, so I figured it was worth a shot to ask for it.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Will the synchronize option delete files?

Hello, I have a trial version and thinking of buying this software as I have many photos and videos as a musician.
I tried for the second option ("Synchronisation"), because I want 2 harddisks to contain the same files, but while running its says: "copying and deleting files".
Offcourse I tried it first with unimportant files, but before doing the real thing I want to be totally shure hat no files are deleted from any of the disks.
Why does it say: copying and DELETING files (in Dutch: kopieren en verwijderen)? What's going to be deleted?
Thanks![img]

As you are using a SmartSync profile, it will copy (as well as delete) files in either direction (left to right or right to left) in order to keep both sides synced.

A SmartSync profile will keep track of what changed the last time the profile was run so that it knows if a file has been deleted, created, or changed since the last profile run. The profile will then replicate the changes (including deletions) from one side to the other. So assuming if you delete a file from the left side, the profile (after scanning) will (by default) replicate the changes to the other side (in this case, delete the file on the right side) in order to keep both side synced.

For more information, please refer to your program contextual Help file on Synchronization, or you can refer to this page:

You can use 'Save as defaults' option available under the 'Click for Options' menu(located at the top-left of the Modification settings page).

You can save the configured settings of a particular settings page as default using 'Save as defaults' option. For example, if you have saved the settings configured under simple page(may be your Source and Destination paths) as default then, when you create a new profile the simple page will be loaded automatically with the default settings saved previously.

You can save the settings of more than one page as default. for example, you can save the settings of the simple page, Copy/Delete Advanced page, Compare options page etc., as defaults and when you create a new profile then all those pages will be loaded automatically with default settings.

Please note that if you wish to save the settings of a sub-page for example, the filter settings page then, you can do this by using Options menu > 'Make this the default' option available in the Filter settings page(but not with the 'Save as defaults' option available under the 'Click for Options' menu).

For the existing profiles, If you wish to load the saved default settings, then you can do this by going to that settings page and by selecting the 'Load defaults' option under 'Click for options' menu.

In the future if you would like to revert the saved default settings back to factory configuration, then you can refer to this KB article below for the detailed steps:
http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowledgebase/articles/479378-revert-saved-default-settings-back-to-factory-conf

Additionally, you can also make use of 'Shared settings' feature available in the some of the settings pages like FTP, Cloud, Network etc.,

Please refer to the Help file for more details on using Shared settings. Help file > Using SyncBackPro > Basic operations > Shared settings.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Starting Backup using command line parameters failed

$

Hi folks,

I am using Syncback Pro 8.2.18 under Windows 1o Pro as a normal user (no admin rights). I tried to backup some data using command line parameters instead of the GUI. The batch file content looks like this:
"c:\Users\Andi1\Desktop\SyncBackPro.lnk" NAS1-2_Netz_Tmp.sps -n > C:\Users\Andi1\Downloads\log.log

The profile NAS1-2_Netz_Tmp.sps is stored in the same folder where the batch files is started. The log file contains after the session 0 bytes!
What happens: when I start the batch file Syncback starts after about 1 second and terminates immediately. The program window is visible less than half a second just like a splash screen. No file was copied, nothing happens any more.

Does anybody has a hint for me which mistake I did in the batch file?

Thanks in advance
Andi

Andi65 wrote:
"c:\Users\Andi1\Desktop\SyncBackPro.lnk" NAS1-2_Netz_Tmp.sps -n > C:\Users\Andi1\Downloads\log.log

contains several parts which are either unorthodox or simply wrong; I'll answer each part in turn

  • "C:\Users\Andi1\Desktop\SyncBackPro.lnk" is an unorthodox calling method - you are calling (chaining) a desktop shortcut to the EXE file, whereas the orthodox method is to call (supply the path to & name of) the EXE file itself directly. Bear in mind that if the desktop shortcut ever gets moved (maybe into a folder?), deleted or corrupted, your batch file will break, whereas it would need the SB EXE file itself to be moved/deleted/damaged to break a batch file containing an orthodox command string. You can steal the orthodox path\name (which varies depending if 32-bit or 64-bit, which you haven't stated) from the desktop shortcut - simply right-click shortcut > Properties > Copy (Ctrl-C) > Paste into the batch file.
  • NAS1-2_Netz_Tmp.sps is not the name of a profile, it is the name of a compressed backup copy of a profile. You cannot run an SPS file, you can only Import it, which is what I would expect (and what it appears, from your description) is happening each time you run your batch file (Importing the same profile into Pro over and over again). If you remove the .sps from the end of the name (which Pro is detecting and adjusting its behavior accordingly) it should reference the actual installed profile, provided this is stored in a location visible to the user (name) running the batch file, which - if you are not running the batch file as a different user (to the user who normally runs Pro) - it probably will be. There is no need/provision to supply a path to the profile (or to provide a local 'copy' of it, which you may be trying to do). SB will automatically & simply look for a profile of that name in all the locations (several of which are username-dependent) where profiles 'belonging' to [the user who runs the batch file] can potentially have been stored.
  • -n switch is in the wrong place - as per the Help "-n: The profiles following this parameter..." you should place the switch before the profile name(s) you want to be run in Normal mode. TLDR: switch goes first, profile-name goes after...
  • > C:\Users\Andi1\Downloads\log.log - not sure what you are hoping to achieve by this, but I suspect it will simply record a numerical exit code (as per list at foot of Help section about Command Line Parameters) if you run a profile (which at the moment you are not). I'm not sure what exit code (if any) is generated for a successful Import, and as one isn't listed, there may well not be one. Things might change once you are actually running a profile ;)
In conclusion, the likely successful string (using orthodox calling) would be one or the other of

"C:\Program Files\2BrightSparks\SyncBackPro\SyncBackPro.exe" -n NAS1-2_Netz_Tmp > C:\Users\Andi1\Downloads\log.log OR

"C:\Program Files (x86)\2BrightSparks\SyncBackPro\SyncBackPro.exe" -n NAS1-2_Netz_Tmp > C:\Users\Andi1\Downloads\log.log

depending whether your copy of Pro and/or your copy of Windows are both 32-bit, both 64-bit or a mixture of the two. It also assumes you have installed Pro in the default location. Both of these aspects should be catered for if you 'steal' the path to the EXE as mentioned above.

Note that I have not wrapped the profile name in quotes here because there are no spaces in it; if there are spaces, you must do so.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: Windows 10 1709 - SBF not seeing files synced with Onedrive

Hi! I had the same problem since the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and this tip worked for me as well.
BUT, I have 3 different profiles and I usually run them all in a row at the end of the day.
Now, when I run one of the profiles it takes a very long time (it scans all the folders as if doing it for the first time). Then, if I run it again, it is very fast (it checks for modifications, finds none, and it's done). But if I run another profile, it is very long again (the first time and then OK again).
To sum up, if I always use the same profile, no problem, but when I run another one, it starts again from scratch.
Any idea on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Scheduled backups aborting themselves and/or running at wrong times

Syncback Free Version: 8.3.16.0 x32
Windows Version: 10 Home x64 w/ Fall Creators update
Two separate laptops, one brand new, the other one with Windows reinstalled.

The Short Story: Scheduled backups are aborting for no apparent reason. Sometimes individual profiles within a group, sometimes entire group profiles. Also, some scheduled backups are running during non-scheduled times.

The Long story:
I run scheduled backups every night and don't keep any apps/programs open during that time. The backups are scheduled for 11:59pm, 2:30am, and 5:00am. This has worked for me with Syncback for years.
I recently bought a new laptop, and refreshed (reinstalled Windows) on my 3-year old machine, both are working perfectly, and both have Syncback installed, with scheduled backups configured; group profiles.
When I check these backups in the morning, I find that some of were aborted. And it's not the same profiles each time, it seems random. Sometimes individual profiles within a group are aborted, and sometimes (like today) entire groups are aborted.

I should mention also that I discovered that backups are occurring randomly on their own during non-scheduled times during the day as well; also randomly. And one of those unscheduled backups also aborted itself.

Any ideas on what's causing these issues?

I recently did a repair installation of Windows 10 on my laptop, and now when I try to sync folders between my desktop and laptop, I get the attached error message. I can sync just fine to two other shared folders, but this message appears for all the other folders that used to sync just fine. Did I miss a file setting?

Hi,

"The network path was not found" is a Windows error (not a SyncBackFree error). Our program is just reporting the error back to the user. You can refer to that Windows error code here (search for code 53):

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms681382(VS.85).aspx

Can you try connecting to your network drive (using the UNC path entered in the profile) from the File explorer (or Windows explorer) to see if it works? If yes, then try these suggestions:

1. Reboot both Source and Destination computers

2. Ensure the you have entered correct credentials to connect to your network drive under:

Modify > Expert > Network settings page

3. Enable the option "Use the supplied username and password before trying my current username and password" under:
Modify > Expert > Network > Advanced settings page.

4. Try entering the I.P Address instead of the hostname in the UNC path to connect to your network drive and retry the execution.

Thank you.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: Scheduled backups aborting themselves and/or running at wrong times

Hi,

Please note that we do not have a scheduler in SyncBack. We rely on Windows Task Scheduler (WTS) to trigger our program on the scheduled date/time to run the tasks. When you create a Schedule within a profile, we are only providing a drill-down into the Windows Task Scheduler interface through our program settings interface to facilitate SyncBack users in the creation and configuration of a Scheduled Task.

Therefore, the Task Scheduler on your system is responsible for calling SyncBackFree to run the task at the schedule date/time, but if WTS fails (for whatever reason), then the profile fails to run at the schedule date/time.

Can you please delete and recreate the schedule tasks (with the correct password) from:

Modify profile > When > Edit Schedule settings page

to see if it works?

Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • ransomeware detection

Hello,

Ransomeware detection is a very nice feature, but I thing it should not be a global feature, but a backup job feature.

In the current model, I have to save a file in a specific folder in machine A (source), and SyncBack checks if the file has changed, and if so - stop all backup jobs.

But what happen if my backup job copy from files from machine B to machine A (from the client to the server), or from machine B to machine C (from NAS to remote FTP)?

Well, according to the current model, syncback can check only one source.

Please set it as a job feature, and each job can check his own source.

-Roei
