SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Mirror folder setup not deleting destination files/folders?

Hi. it works OK for me (subject to the following). Are you sure you don't have Filters and/or File/Folder Deselections in force that are telling SB to Ignore those files (thus, it doen't delete them)? Another possibility is that it will do so in due course, but you have time-limits in force before deletions take place. Other possibilities exist, such as general age & size limits that specify certain files are simply not to be processed at all.

If these are not the answer (or you are not sure), I think you would need to submit a Support Zip to 2BS Support of the profile in question (after a run that did not delete files you think should be...) together with the exact path\name of an example Destination-only file that was not deleted.

Hi,

Please submit a support zip (with debug logs) of your profile run to support@2brightsparks.com for investigation.

Full instructions for creating and submitting the support zip are given here:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... ation-file

If your Zip is over 30MB, contact us for alternate instructions, advising the actual size. Do not try to attach to the ticket!

Do not post (nor links to) Support Zips on this open forum.

Thank you

Hi,

There are several new features added to V8. You can review the new V8 features here:

https://www.2brightsparks.com/whatsnew.html

If you do not own a copy of SyncBackPro/SE V8 and wish to test its functions, you are welcome to try our fully functional SyncBackPro, which we offer a free 30-day evaluation.

http://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/sof ... _Setup.exe

http://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/sof ... _Setup.exe

Although we recommend customers to upgrade, it is an optional choice and you can choose to remain with V7 indefinitely. However, please note that support and updates for V7 version will cease on 1 Dec 2017.

Thank you.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: Syncbackfree compression and copy problems

Hello,

Sorry for my bad English, but I use Google
Translator

I have the same problem whit syncbackpro V8.4.5.0 (x64) and 1and1 online storage.
SyncBack compresses the data and then uploads it. If the file
greater than 61 megabytes, syncback indicates an error. The mistake
"Failed to copy from source: Can not compress file: The file could not be saved to the archive.".

Files smaller than 61MB work without problems.

I use the compression per file.

If I upload the file without compression with syncback works
it also with larger files. If I compress the file beforehand with 7-zip and then upload with syncback it works.

I have tested several compression settings. at
all settings comes the mistake.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Dear

I would like to see how it is possible to back up my files sent via FTP automatically and periodically. Storing each backup in a new folder and creating a backup version style, if possible, is what I should do in the process.

Hi All,

Is there a solution to this? I am having the same problem in v8.4.5.0. I have about 20 profiles set up, and only two have this issue (they are all basically copies). I ran debug and here is the log (file paths have been scrubbed) Something about "insert disk", but that makes no sense. It is saved to a network share...

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Files skipped/missed during first backup

Hi,

I've been using this app for quite a few years now... I have some idea of the subtleties and complexities involved in mirror and backup operations, so this is not a criticism... I'm just puzzled about what might have happened. Version is Syncback Free V8.2.18.0 (32-bit). OS W10.

I did this mirror operation from the My Document directory on one computer (computer "A") to an external hard drive... then I did the same Syncback job in RESTORE mode to mirror from the external hard drive to another computer ("B").

I was puzzled that a handful of files got the "Failed to copy from Destination : Cannot copy file (2): The system cannot find the file specified The file may have been deleted between the time it was scanned and the attempt to copy it was made" message. So I went and looked at the result of the mirror on the external HD: they were missing. I went back to computer A and the files were definitely present. I repeated the mirror operation from computer A to the HD: this time those files were copied OK. Then they were restored OK to computer B.

I got no error message with the first mirror attempt. I had a look at the log (Ctrl-L) ... but it (obviously) gave me information only on the successful second mirror job. I don't know whether log info relating to the first mirror attempt is kept somewhere, but all I know is that I definitely got "success" as the result.

Can anyone say what might have happened?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • SyncBackPro not creating FTP directories

I am evaluating SyncBackPro v8.4.5.0 backup running on Win10-64 backing up to a FileZilla 0.9.60 FTP server on Win10-32 using an FTPS connection. At present, I'm on a LAN with no firewall other than Windows firewall. SBP successfully logs in and backups up files into existing folders / dirs, but fails to create directories on the FTP server. Error message:
Scan failed (-1): Expected another server reply(15) : 550 CWD failed. "/ABC/DEF": directory not found.

Step and repeat that message for every directory. There are no other messages, except "skipped" files because the directory doesn't exist. FileZilla logs confirm the 550 failure.

I can connect via an FTP client and successfully create directories without issue.

Does the forward / vs Windows back \ have anything to do with it? If so, is there an option to address the problem?

Thanks in Advance.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • deleting and using variables

$

I'm blind and rely on a screen reader, so some of the below might relate to that and the semi-accessibility of this section of the UI.

1. Can't delete variable supposedly in use
I can't delete a variable in a group profile, because i keep getting a message saying it's in use in the profile that i'm currrently editing.
this is despite having previously, in all profiles, set the combo to None, and clicked OK , and also checked that the variable is not referenced anywhere.
The offending variable has no value, and is redundant.

2. I have 3 group profiles say, A, B, C, and a number of independant ones, and 4 variables - say V1, V2, V3, V4 (empty).
When i select V1 in the combo, V1, V2 and V3 show in the list box.
Select V2, and V2 and V3 show.
Select V3 and only V3 shows.
Select V4(valueless), and only V3 shows in list.
Can't work out the logic...?
Only way to select all seems to be to select the first in combo, then select all 3 in list box and press OK...?

3. Is there a reason for having to declare a user-defined variable in a profile before using it?
Is it possible to just have them all in a list as grobally available, possibly with a distinctive prefix like SyncBack's ones, and then just use them as required, anywhere?
I daresay there is a reason, but it would have to be a very convincing one to outweigh the current arrangement - complicated and a recipe for confusion...?
eg. If one wants a variable in a subprofile to override one in the group profile, simply make another with a suitable name etc...
Cheers

Those error messages (in the original log) are SB trying to tell you that certain files were reported by your system (computer-A) as present when SB scanned the files, but (after comparison/decision re all the files 'in scope') when SB tried to actually copy the files in question, your system then reported they were not/no longer present (hence the error messages and their wording). Note that it is SB that is calculating the extra 'was here before, now not' aspect; Windows itself only returns the error number/message '(2): The system cannot find the file specified'.

This can happen with temp files, which were indeed deleted/moved/renamed during that interim comparison/decision period by whatever process created / was using them (hence the extra wording in the warning/error messages). These tend to be files in 'system' locations, including 3rd-party applications' own 'system' folders/files. However...

...the location of the files in question ('Documents') suggests these may be 'real' long-term (i.e. not temp) data files, and 're-appearance' of the files under the exact-same names (?) in the exact-same locations (?) next run tends to reinforce this possibility - you may have a system problem. SB relies on Windows API calls to scan & copy files, and if one Windows API (called/used to scan your disk) reports certain files were present but a different Windows API called/used to attempt a copy of them reports they are not present, you may have problems with your copy of Windows or your (source) disk, so that the system is returning erratic information. The 'disk issue' possibility is more likely if all the files in question tend to be stored in one or two folder branches (though some files may be deeper in the path than others).

In any case, there is nothing SB can do about what it is told except to notify the user. You may be wise to run a system check on that source disk. But there is nothing anyone else can do 'forensically' to assist you remotely.

Keeping multiple logs (to a user-defined and settable-per-profile extent) is a feature of the commercial versions, and is not supported in the freeware. There is also an user-option in the SE/Pro versions to log the 'events' you are quoting as Warnings (warnings do not set overall Result as Failure in their own right) instead of Errors (which do), but this alternate-logging option is not available in the Free version. So I cannot see how a log could have quoted the messages you quoted here but reported Success, as it must have been listing those messages as Errors as there is no way to configure SBF otherwise.

BTW, you are using an older version of SBF - suggest update it to v8.4.5.0 (update 'over the top' to preserve your profiles and settings).
It will not have any effect on this particular issue, but keeping up to date is a good idea on general principles (especially for free)

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Result of a group profile

I'm using Pro V8.3.16.0 (x64). The result column indicates success or failure for ungrouped profiles, but remains blank for group profiles. I'd suggest it should also indicate the result for group profiles -- success if all the lower-order profiles have success, otherwise failure. At present, users have to expand all the groups and subgroups to see what has happened (even then, some profile results might have been recorded on earlier runs, so users may have to sift through quite a lot of dates too -- maybe the results from earlier runs could appear in a different font or shade, so that those of current interest are easier to spot). It would be far more convenient to expand the groups only when a failure has occurred. Then the table would normally be more compact and the results clear at a glance, expanding being needed only if any failure has occurred.

Re Q1 above
Ok Sorry, i get it - don't select, in the combo, the variable you want to delete! A bit counter intuitive, but so be it - that's OK :)
Q2&3 still open...

FOLLOW-UP to original question (as per topic subject)

You should also check for a file called DSETTINGS.INI in the same location as SETTINGS.INI and, if found, migrate a copy of DSETTINGS.INI likewise.

DSETTINGS.INI (if it exists) contains details of any program-wide* dialogs for which a ''Do not prompt me again' setting (or similar) has been specified.

* similar settings at the profile level are recorded in the profiles themselves; this INI contains program-level ('global') settings only

Hi,

The reason why you are still getting the errors is because the profile is still using the same old API. Here are the instructions on how to upgrade your profiles (copied from the SyncBackPro's V8 help file).

Upgrading Dropbox and OneDrive Cloud API

When you upgrade from an earlier version of SyncBackPro, or import a profile from an earlier version of SyncBackPro, and the profile is using Dropbox, OneDrive (Personal or Business) or SharePoint, then SyncBackPro will continue using the old (legacy) interface with that cloud service. This ensures your profile continues to work. However, it is recommended that you update the profile to use the new cloud API.

To do this:

·Run the profile to make sure all changed files are copied etc. to or from the cloud.

·Make a copy of the profile (select the profile in the main window and press Ctrl-C, or right-click on the profile and select Copy from the pop-up menu) and give the copy a new name, e.g. New Cloud Backup Profile

·Modify your original profile, go to the Cloud settings page and click the Delete DB button.

·You will then be prompted to ask if you would like to switch from the old cloud API. Click Yes.

·After the cloud database has been deleted, if you already have a linked cloud account for the new cloud service then you will be prompted if you would like to use that account. If you do not have a linked account then you must re-authorize SyncBackPro with the cloud service.

·Save the profile and run it attended (it is critical it is run attended and not unattended). To do this, select the profile in the main window and press Ctrl-R (or right-click on it and select Run from the pop-up menu).

·When the Differences window appears you need to change the Action for all the files to Use details from Source (or whatever your source is called) then let the profile continue. Note that you can choose all files by pressing Ctrl-A or you can do multiple selections using the Ctrl and Shift keys with mouse clicks. To change the Action for your selected files, right-click on the selection and choose the action from the pop-up menu.

If there are no problems you can delete the copy of the profile.

Thanks,
Kostas

can these steps also be made on the v7?

thanks

Without intending to, we started a "trial" upgrade to Syncback SE V8. We bought V7 last year. How can we just go back to V7? Will it simply revert at the end of the trial? Or do we need to take some action? It asks us for a serial number each time we start SyncBack.
