SyncBackPro (commercial) • bakup with SyncBackPro to SSD (My Passport SSD) gives problems

$

I have bought a Western Digital SSD (“My Passport SSD”) for backing up my files.
I have connected my SSD with a USB connection.

Copying files from my hard disk to the SSD via USB does not cause any problems.
But making a backup with the same files with SyncBackPro gives at a given time error messages.

The first message says something that SyncBack can not find a certain file.
The messages after say something about not being able to find the path.

It seems that SyncBack then has lost the connection with the SSD.
The computer has not lost the connection with the SSD!

The profile of SyncBack looks good.
I've tried it with another extern harddisk via the same USB and it goes well without errors.

Is there anyone who can help to solve this problem?

The configuration of my Desktop:
Windows 10 (1709)
SyncBackPro V8.2.18.0
SyncBackPro V8.2.18.0 Logging.JPG

I see several SBSE____.TIB files in my SB target folders. Are these SyncBackPro files? If yes why do they have the file extension of TIB. TIB files should be Acronis True Image files. With the 2018 release of True Image these files are creating a True Image issue for me. The only place I see the files are in the target folders for SyncbackPro.

Hi, do you mean 'run a scheduled profile (or group)' after the set date/time has passed? If so, there is a drill-down in SB's Schedule edit dialog to some settings in the Windows Task Scheduler* ('WTS') that control this.

SchedMiscTab.jpg

AFAIK, the 'as soon as possible' setting is on by default (it certainly was in my test above) so if it is not working for you, you may have a Windows issue. You can check the Task (that SB helped you create) directly in Windows; if you're using a modern version of Windows (Vista-onward) the setting is on the Settings tab of the Task. If this is set (checked) and the profile/group is still not being run, there is nil more SB can do to assist you (you have a Windows issue). Bear in mind that MS seem to have a very broad definition of the concept 'as soon as possible', so you may need to allow for this when testing.

Note also that the setting 'Start the task only if...on AC power' might be influencing Windows decision; it is not unknown for Windows to believe that a PC is running on battery when it is not - see here (last main paragraph)- though AFAIK you should find the error 0x80041324 logged in the WTS and in the initial Schedule info page of the profile (also Last Scheduled Run Error column in SB UI, if visible) if this is happening.

There is nothing else SB can do if activating this 'ASAP' setting for you does not work and unchecking 'only on AC' does not help.

If you have any other questions (separate issues) in the future, suggest you include details of your SB version (number x.x.x.x) and your Windows version.

* there is no dedicated/separate scheduler in SB; 2BS leverage the WTS functionality built in to Windows and provide drill-downs to some of the settings in WTS to achieve this

TIB files should be Acronis True Image files.

Why? No one has a monopoly on file extensions.

SyncBack usually cleans up after itself and you won't see its housekeeping files.

Hi,

To revert to SE V7 from SE V8:

1. Uninstall V8

2. Download and install the latest version of SE V7 from here:

https://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads-legacy.html

When the latest V7 is installed SyncBack will import your original settings and profiles (from the location where V7 profiles are copied before installing V8).

Please refer to ‘I am using V5/V6/V7 but would like to try V8’ section of this KB article for more details:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... n-upgrades

If you have encounter issues with V7 installation, please open a support ticket to support@2BrightSparks.com for assistance.

Thank you.

Apparently, the free version will only identify drives by letter. Do other, paid, version allow drive ID by other than letter?

Hi, yes, there are some alternatives you can use in Lite/SE/Pro. There are details about them in all the Help files (including the Help in SB Free)

Modify any profile > Simple settings page opens by default > note the Alternatives buttons on extreme right of Source & Destination boxes

Now press F1 with that Simple settings page still open and read the section regarding those Alternatives buttons in the contextual Help page that will open. The explanatory text contains hyperlinks to the Variables section of the Help file for more background details. Scroll to the bottom of the Variables section for a list of those not supported in Free (i.e., that can be gained by upgrading). All variables will work in the Lite/SE/Pro models with the proviso that Variables referring to SyncBack Touch will not work in Lite, for the simple reason Touch itself is not supported by the Lite version.

Note: you can install a copy of any commercial version for free 30 days evaluation without affecting your SBFree installation. Just make sure you install the commercial version/s into separate folder/s to SBFree/each other (the default folder/s you will be offered comply with this requirement). Free/Lite/SE/Pro are all standalone programs and do not upgrade each other / you can install & use all four at once if you wish. You can uninstall any commercial version afterwards if you decide not to go ahead, without affecting your Free install; likewise you can uninstall Free if you decide to switch to using a commercial version.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Auto backup Windows clients to server without domain.

Syncbackpro user. I've always managed to get it to do everything I want but struggling with this:

Small office. About 12 Windows 10 users with laptops and a 2012 server (for file and print) in the office.
Laptop users all visit the office about once a week at different times.
Laptops are not in a domain but I can create an account on them.
Laptops have a folder containing important files and Outlook PST that I'd like to backup to the 2102 server which runs Syncback pro whenever they are in the office.

Perfect would be for Syncback pro to "reach out" and backup that folder from their laptop to the server whenever it sees them connect to the network. This can't be periodic as there is no set time when they are in the office. I don't think that is possible is it ?

Alternate way, clients have Syncback pro on their laptop and when it sees them in the office and connected to the server it then runs a script to backup to the server. I've got close to that working. It's easier to configure it to "push" and if I auto map a network drive to the server then it sort of tells you it's in the office and that could be a trigger - but some users connect via slow VPN links where that mapped drive connects and I want to avoid those - the backup can wait until their laptop is physically in the office.

This can't be an unusual requirement. any suggestions how to do it please ?

David

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Filter file types for synchronization?

$

Hello,

I just started using SyncBack Pro V8 for the sole purpose of being able to backup and synchronize files between my backup drives and my Amazon Drive account. The files in question are my Raw and processed photography image files. I have the unlimited photo file backup with Amazon but the folders where the files are stored are mixed between the various images files (RAW, JPEG, PNG) and the color profile and cache files of my image editing software. I would like to backup just the specific image file types and not include any other file associations. Can syncback do this?

Thanks

Same problem here - there doesn't seem to be an easy way.

I've tried a hot-key, but the users never remember.

If a profile runs when they connect, then their laptop runs slowly just when they want to do something.

We need to know when they're in the office (i.e. on a particular external IP), otherwise you risk running the profile when they're connected via a mobile phone hotspot or VPN or something.

Perhaps we could have a Group setting that only runs the profiles if it can connect to the server?

Not advisable to use mapped drives anymore - ransomware!

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Individual profile settings changes

I choose specific sub directories and files for backup in a given profile, but if I add a file to the source folder, it becomes automatically "checked" for backup in the profile settings.

Once I determine my preferences for a given profile, shouldn't the default behavior for that profile be that it stays that way? Or am I doing something wrong.

thanks

Hi,

SyncBack (by default) include new files/folders created within the scope of the Source/Destination locations to your profile's backup selection, hence the new file added to your backup was automatically added to your selection.

If you do not want the new files/folders to be included to your backup selection, then you can configure the "Choose sub-directories and files" settings page to ‘Ignore new files/folders’. You can do this by selecting "Ignore new file/folder" option from the drop-down list on the top-right of:

Modify > Simple > "Choose sub-directories and files" settings page

Please read the help file > Basic Operations > Easy mode > 'Sub-directories and Files' page for more details

Thank you.
