SyncBackSE (commercial) • Gmail Blocks Email for Log

I have been using SyncBack successfully for years. I have backups setup to send an email if there is a problem. That worked fine until 2 days ago.

I am now receiving an email from Google (my email provider) that states:

Review blocked sign-in attempt
Google just blocked someone from signing into your Google Account *******@gmail.com from an app that may put your account at risk.

So it seems when there is an issue with a backup, and SyncBack tries to send an email, Google is blocking SyncBack from logging into the account.

Does anyone have a resolution to this issue (besides switching email providers)?

Hi,

Please note that we do not have a scheduler in SyncBack. We rely on Windows Task Scheduler (WTS) to trigger our program on the scheduled date/time to run the tasks. Therefore, the Task Scheduler on your system is responsible for calling SyncBackPro to run the task at the schedule date/time, but if WTS fails (for whatever reason), then the profile won't run at the schedule date/time.

Can you please delete and recreate the schedule task that failed to run from:

Modify profile > When > Edit Schedule settings page

to see if it works?

Thank you.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Wrong Username or Password ???

Hi,

I have 2 PCs connected with an ethernet cable. I have given both a fixed IP and I can browse the files on one from the other. However, when I try to run SyncBack SE, it gives me "the username or password is incorrect". This with an open explorer window browsing the files right next to it.

The program was working fine previously, I just reinstalled PC#2 (new HD). The ethernet connection shows as "unidentified network" and is set as a public network. I can view files on each PC if I share the folders.

Can you help ?

So I quit SyncBackSE, restarted it and went to modify my sync profiles (new user directory name on reformatted PC) and it asked for username and password access to the second PC, after that it worked :-)

I set up a profile as normal to back up my Microsoft One Drive to an external drive. The profile appears to set up fine but when I run a simulated run it says no files were backed up. I have no problem backing up files from my c drive that are not on Microsoft One Drive

Hi, you can use Filters, as per this topic, but in your case you probably should use Filters like this

*\
*\*.doc
*\*.xls

and so on for any other Office file types you use (if any).

Do pay attention to the statements commencing 'Do not fail to enter....' & 'See here also....' in the old post, and read the linked stuff.

You can also jump to contextual Help on Filters by opening the Change Filter dialog (click Change Filters button) and then press F1

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Ideas for offsite backup of tons of small files

$

I have been moving all my backups off-site to Google Drive for the past couple weeks. I've worked out a lot of wrinkles here and there to streamline the process. One that I can't figure out a way to tackle is uploading tons of small files.

I have just 2GB of data to upload (in this particular case), but it consists of over 225k small files. As you probably know, uploading one 2GB file takes a tiny fraction of the time it takes to upload a quarter-million files totaling 2GB.

I was hoping there was some sort of way to upload a zip file to GDrive and then expand it once it uploaded. Doesn't appear to be a way to do that. There are some extensions that allow you to unzip files on GDrive, but they use local storage to do it. So, it's basically downloading and then re-uploading them to GDrive. Obviously, that defeats the whole purpose.

Does Syncback have some method of accomplishing this? Any tips for doing an operation like this?

Thanks!

Hi,

SyncBackPro supports single-zip compression, where it compresses all files on Source into a big zip file (locally) and copies it to the destination. However, with cloud services, we do not recommend using single-zip compression, because the zip file uploaded to the server is recreated in each run (deleted, recreated and uploaded to the server, which is a slow process). If you wish you can test single-zip compression with Google Drive and see if it is faster than uploading multiple small files.

Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Syncback scans excluded Dropbox folders

$

Hi everybody,

I have set up a backup directly from my dropbox (in the cloud) to a local drive. I have selected a few folders and deselected many others, but SyncBack still seems to scan all foldes (even those I have excluded) when trying to determine what to synchronize/backup. This of course costs a lot of time. Is this normal behavior? If I exclude an entire folder, should Syncback not refrain from scanning it in order to save time and bandwidth?

Stefan.
