Hi,

It is a new Windows notification feature added in SyncBack V8.5.26.0. More details about this feature are discussed here:

viewtopic.php?t=13287&p=50102#p50106

To switch off the notification:

Modify profile > Notify settings > un-tick the checkbox "Display a notification when a profile prompts"

Thank you.

This happens regularly! i've been running SyncBackPro manually ever since this... and it just happened with a manual attended run.

If OneDrive for Business is very, very busy (during a work day) - SyncBackPro will incorrectly think the OneDrive folders are empty and start deleting slabs of "left" data??

it needs to fail more gracefully than that!! HELP!!

Looking for some advice. We are splitting companies and we have to migrate our data off of their network file share. We need all data that has been created/modified after December 8th 2017 by X users. X is about 550 users. Those 550 users are all in 1 AD OU.

Is there a way to make this happen with SyncBack Pro?

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Problems with Comparing Files After Backup

$

Hi,
Been using Syncback SE for a while and am having a problem with the file comparison after backing up .pst files as it logs the run as a failure 8 times out of 10. I have tried setting a delayed run to ensure all file locks are cleared but I still keep getting the warning "Failed to copy from Source : The copy is not identical to the original. The original file may have been modified after it was copied" which is really annoying as I run the backup unattended in the background every few hours.

The file is stored on a windows home server and the backup location is on a desktop (client) PC.

Any ideas how I can stop the failure due to this error?

I realize that every time I run Syncbackpro to backup files to my Amazon drive, it scans and backs up up almost of the same files again, even though I clearly remember the files never changed, it just keeps backing up the same file, wasting a lot of time. So the solution is to check "Ignore file modification date & time changes"?

I'm using V8.5.26.0

SyncBackFree (freeware) • When doing synchronisation, deleted files are copied back

$

Hello everyone,

I have a recently set up a synchronization between my working directory and my NAS at home. What I wanted is the following: during the night I want those two directories to sync, meaning that every change made on either one of the directory is applied to the other one.

Those are the rules I applied ("Decisions - Files" in the Settings pannel):
- Most recent files overwrite least ones (synchronization)
- What to do if the file exist on Source but not on FTP: Copy the file into FTP
- What to do if the file exist on FTP but not on Source: Copy the file into Source

It works fine with only one problem : the files I delete either on Source or FTP are copied back during synchronization. I understand this seems to be the normal behavior having the rules I stated above. But how can I overcome that ?

Thank you and have a great day !

Xem'

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Profile aborted (too many files will be deleted) then aborts all other profiles in group

Good evening all,

I have a group with about 30 separate profiles within it. The group is scheduled to run at a specific time each night and it works through them sequentially.

One of the jobs (about half way through the group) mirrors a folder and all files had been deleted in that folder, so I expect it to delete them in the destination (I understand the risks). This profile failed with the error "Warning 100% or more of files about to be deleted", HOWEVER, the remaining 10 or so jobs in the group also aborted - almost like 1 profile aborting casuses the whole group to abort.

Is there a way to stop this happening so that the other profiles continue?

I am using SyncBack V6.5.49.0 - I realise this is old now and happy to upgrade if this issue is fixed / can be worked around in the new version.

Any help appreciated!

Hi,

In SyncBack, if a profile in a group is aborted (for whatever reason) then the following profiles in the group will also be aborted (for safety reasons). Sorry, but there is no way to stop the group from aborting (it’s not supported in any version of SyncBack).

About the warning ‘Too many files will be deleted’ in V6, please refer to this forum post:

Thank you.

After installing recent updates of SyncBackFree I have noticed that every time I run the program the Start Menu is updated with a new shortcut to SyncBackFree.exe. If I erase the shortcut and run the program again, the shortcut is created again.

Is there an option that will leave the Start Menu untouched when I run SyncBackFree?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Windows 10 upgrades Stuff up my backups

$

I use Syncback Pro on a single computer to backup from my other PC's to that computer using SBPro. The computer running Syncback is running Windows 7 Pro and acts as a kind of central server (Computer A).

I have been doing this for years. I have an administrative user that uniquely exists on all computers with a common password. This user is only used for backup purposes. Syncback runs on a schedule from Computer A and backs up changed files on Computer B, and on a different schedule backs up files on Computer C.

What happens is every time that Windows does a 'feature update' it removes the backup user from the Documents folders. The user still exists but does not have permissions to access the files and as a result, when Syncback runs it thinks that there are no files in that folder. The backup runs but does not see any files or sub-folders. I have to manually re-add the backup user to the permissions for those folders.

I understand why this happens. Basically, when windows does a feature update it recreates the user and migrates the files. In some ways, this is no different to the good old days where we might upgrade our PC's and need to recreate everything. The difference is that Windows is doing this stuff in its own time (curse you MS) and more frequently, hence I forget each time the significance of what has just happened and can go for some time before realising that my backups while running, are not seeing anything to back up.

So this is the problem and I'm just wondering if any clever people out there have some suggestions about how to overcome this in some way - perhaps some kind of script associated with the scheduled run that could detect the change and alert me. I'm also curious to know if this kind of problem affects others and how they deal with it.

SyncBack Touch • compression fails

I've got two Windows 10 machines.
One has SyncBackPro, the other has SyncBack Touch.

If SyncBackPro is the source machine, and SyncBack Touch is the destination machine, and compression is turned on, then everything works fine.

If SyncBack Touch is the source machine, and SyncBackPro is the destination machine, and compression is turned on, then no files get copied.

Hi,

In SyncBackPro/SE if you select a non-standard resource (SyncBack Touch, FTP, Cloud, Compression, Encryption etc.,) on one side (Source/Destination) then you can only select standard resource (local drive or network path) on the other side this is by the internal design aspects. Therefore, if your Source is SyncBack Touch then you can't download files from Touch and store them as compressed and encrypted on destination.

You can refer to this KB article for more details:

Thank you.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Unable to scan source

$

using Synchback SE V8 on Win 7/64 bit -
I am running a job manually that under one profile has 4 jobs attached (3 of these jobs looking at specified folders on a network drive and one on an internal drive as the source). When I wanted to check on the relevant sub-folders that are ticked for the jobs, using modify to see the details in three of the four cases everything is fine but the 4th job comes up with error: "unalbe to scan Source: Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again".

I am not clear on what this means. Three of the jobs go to the same networked drive named: \\Data1\e\.... and two of these jobs run fine, so I am not sure why the third job going to the same shared source (just different folder) has a problem. Also this was the working set up for months, so not sure what has changed just now.

How would I disconnect all prior connections to the server? I exited Synchback and restarted and also restarted my pc but the outcome is still the same.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Option to not mark as "Failure" for minor and/or few errors

$
0
0
It's a little annoying (as misleading) to see "Failure" for backups where a few files have failed for negligible reasons (eg.: source file locked, source file removed after queued, etc.) but the backup has mostly succeeded. For example, a recent backup (mirror) job of mine copied/deleted/renamed/changed over 85k files and failed on 3 individual files for negligible reasons. So the error rate is < 0.004%, but the profile is still marked as a failure.

Perhaps a better way to present this would be to add a column for "Error Rate" and/or "Success Rate" and a profile option to "Classify result as failure when Error Rate exceeds X%".

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Why are there redundant confirmation prompts for exiting while profiles running?

$

This irks me:

"There are profiles currently running or waiting to run ... Are you sure you want to exit?"

**YES**

a few seconds later...

"There are still profiles running. Would like like to wait again for them to finish?"

**NO**

It's the same question, with the wording inverted, requiring different answers. It's just odd.

Also worth noting: when the prompt is open, every profile is listed as "does not exist, or is corrupted..." I know it's just a presentation issue and they're not actually corrupted, but it's disconcerting to see that all the time.
