I am backing up photos from lightroom to an external drive. I have a backup scrip that copies files from d:\pictures\lightroom to external drive. when I run the script it copes that folder but also copies the content of the lightroom folder separately, ie its copies the photos twice. on the back up drive i have the lightroom folder containing the photos but also separate folders containing the photos..

anyone have any ideas about why these are being copied twice?

This might be of interest - (provided you find it sufficiently of interest to invest in one of the commercial models (Lite, SE or Pro), as it is not supported in the Free version. Other benefits of upgrading are listed here if interested.

How useful it might be depends on exactly what you want to do and with how many profiles/disks. One possibility is to manually set (i.e.edit in Explorer) your rotated backup drives so they all have the same LABEL (e.g.'ROTATED') and run them in turn against a single profile set to copy to Destination set as

%LABEL=ROTATED%\backup\

or similar. You would need to use some kind of external label (Dymo, etc) to physically distinguish the various rotated drives if they are all the same types (cases, etc), as their Labels in Explorer would of course all display the same name. You would also need to make sure only one such drive is inserted each time you run the profile (else it would pick one of the multiple-matching drives, possibly at random)

If your corporate policy does not permit the storage of account passwords, then AFAIK in that case the only option left is to set up a Schedule(d Task) set to 'Run only when user is logged on', which might be useless for your needs (to run overnight, say) and/or insecure (leaving machine logged in while unattended, though user could Lock it - if he remembers...)

If 'Run only when user is logged on' would suffice for your needs, you should be able to simply click Cancel to the initial password prompt and the Schedule(d Task) will open with the 'Run only when user is logged on' option preselected, ready to set date & time. Note that you cannot switch that option off (and revert to 'whether logged on or not') without being prompted for the password again #-o before that Schedule dialog will close. The result will be an error message and a Task that fails because 'no password' (or words to that effect, IIRC)

I'm not sure you need to do what you're doing.
As far as I know, the only important things in that folder are in the folder holding the actual LR catalog.
You can also back up your catalog to another drive when LR closes--that's controlled inside the LR settings.
The other folder is holding thumbnails, not your actual photos.
If these were lost, they would be recreated anyway.
Obviously, your actual photos should also be backed up.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Multiple Machine all need current version of files

New to the forum, I am and wanted to know if the SE product would work for my situation I am windows 10 based with a desktop, laptop and Synology NAS (DS218+) and often working from remote locations (3 - 4 days a week) not always with the internet connections. I would like to have all three components with the same files so that I have a backup on the Synology and can work on either machine with the latest version of the files I am using. Is the SyncBackSE the best product for this and will it work with the Synology without issues. Thanks for the advice.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Task scheduler fails with 2147943726 if Do not store password is unchecked

I have been trying lots of things to sort this, but to no avail. This is using the latest version of SyncBack Pro on Windows 10 Pro.

My scheduled tasks do not run. I got a new PC a little while ago and I think they have probably never run on this, whereas for years with seemingly the same setup and account on a different PC I had no issues. The task scheduler gives "Task Scheduler failed to start "\2BrightSparks\SyncBackProx64\MIKE-SP4-mike\SyncBackPro Test" task for user "MIKE-SP4\mike". Additional Data: Error Value: 2147943726". My machine is MIKE-SP4 and account is an Administrator and Microsoft account (identified by email address but correctly shown without the domain here).

I have set up a simple new profile to test and get the same error. Similary if I run it directly from Task Scheduler. If I edit the task directly via Task Scheduler and check "Do not store password" it does however run correctly. Similarly if I have the task set to "Run only when user is logged on" it works. The password I enter after changing the task is correct: an invalid one is not accepted at this point anyway. If I change the user to SYSTEM the task also runs. I wondered whether this suggests that there must be some privilege my account is lacking, but I have been through everything at http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... uler-fails, as well as many discussions elsewhere, and all seems fine.

I realise this isn't directly a SyncBack problem, but since SyncBack does not allow "Do not store password" to be checked (it is greyed out), and clears it if it was, I can't use SyncBack to schedule, or change a schedule, for any profile.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Using "Files/folders to copy" Filters

$

I was trying to create a profile where I use filters to "list" the specific files to include. There are many individual files scattered throughout the system, and I find the "flat list" (filter) method to be much easier to maintain than the tree-based file & folder selection.

Given that the profile source directory is C:\, I'd assumed this would be simple, with filters like:

/path/to/file1.txt
/path/to/another/file2.txt

However, this doesn't work. Looking at the docs, my understanding is that this is because (even though I've clearly specified a direct path from the root all the way to the file), filters were designed such that it won't actually look for that file unless you either:

1) Use a separate rule to tell it to look in each & every folder along the path to every file, i.e.
/path/
/path/to/
/path/to/file1.txt
/path/to/another/
/path/to/another/file2.txt

or

2) Tell it to recursively scan through every single folder on the entire system, like
*/
/path/to/file1.txt
/path/to/another/file2.txt

Am I missing something here? The first approach makes it impossibly cumbersome to include a list of files; the second makes it impossibly slow to scan through the entire disk.

Is there no way to get filters to simply include a list of files, without having to scan the whole disk or add separate rules to walk through every step in every path of every file? :/

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Amazon Cloud Drive - Keeps copying same files over

$

Ive had this profile running for at least a year and no issue, I have it email me a log after the sync each time it runs (daily). Lately now for past week or so, its been taking a long time to run and upon further investigation I noticed that it keeps copying my ENTIRE library of pictures (which is all I sync) over and over. Every time it runs, it keeps copying the entire lot of 41gig of pictures. I dont get why? Again nothing has changed on Amazon Cloud Drive side, I rarely access that, its mainly for backup. Server side nothing changed, once in a few days or so I add some more pictures to my server, but it should only copy whats changed which is what it did previously.

Not understanding why all the sudden it keeps doing this now. I tried to delete the DB for the Amazon Cloud Drive profile and try again and in simulation still shows it wants to copy the entire 41gig of pictures. Did something change on the Amazon Cloud Drive side that is affecting this?

Hi,

Please submit a support zip with debug logs of the scan phase to support@2brightsparks.com for further investigation. To do this, enable 'Output debug information' from Preferences menu and run the profile in manual mode (ctrl + R). When the Differences Window is displayed abort the profile run and submit the support zip as per the instructions given here:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... les/213970

If your Zip is over 30MB, contact us for alternate instructions, advising the actual size. Do not try to attach to the ticket!

Do not post (nor links to) Support Zips on this open forum.

Thank you.

The system tray icon for SB Pro v8 does not appear when I start Windows. The profiles do run so the program is working however, I have to open SB from the Windows start menu to view the program.

Is there a way to have to icon appear in the system tray on Windows start?

Thanks

If you tap the "show hidden icons" button ( ^ ) in the task tray, is it there?
If so, you can go into settings to have it show all the time.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • SyncBackFree is compressing files when I don't want it to!

$

I have just downloaded the latest version of SyncBackFree (v8.5.75.0) and created two profiles for backing up my photos (onto a FreeNAS server).
Since they are all jpg (and other compressed formats) I don't want them zipped up. I have checked that the compression option is not enabled [Checkbox Compress the files on right into a zip file -- is __not__ checked].
However all the files are zipped so I see filenames like "filename1.jpg.zip" (which, of course, are bigger than the original).
This is doubly bad since I had already copied many of the files so I get two files for every picture.

How can I stop it zipping the files?

Hi,

Sorry, I can’t reproduce your issue.

The profile with Compression option disabled, copied JPG files as-is from source to destination. Can you please export and send those 2 profiles (select the profile > right click > Export Profile) to support@2brightsparks.com for investigation?

Do not post (nor link) profiles on this open forum.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Directories NOT to copy : filtering syntax

$

When inserting

CODE:

"D:\Test Folder\Hello World\MP3"
in the "Directories NOT to copy" dialog box, it only keeps "MP3" in the list, and not the full path!

Will this filter all folders named "MP3", for example also "D:\Temp\MP3"?
How to filter out only "D:\Test Folder\Hello World\MP3"?

Should we use quotes " ", not quotes ? Something else?
