To whom it may concern,

When mirroring a drive what happens to the 2nd drive if the main mirror drive fails? Since it is mirroring would you not lose all data?

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Problem with network credentials

I use SynBack to backup to a Synology Diskstation. The share where the backup is destined is R/O to the 'admin' user (same username as the domain controller but Synology is not on the domain). The synology account with R/W is 'backup'. When I configure the network credentials in the SynBack profile and click 'Test Connection' I get "Success!". I also have selected the 'Use the supplied username ...' option under Network|Advanced.

However, when the scheduled backup runs, I get the error "Access is denied" in the log... If I change the 'admin' account to R/W on the Synology and everything completes as expected... seems like SyncBack is ignoring the 'Use the supplied username ..." option?

Thank you
Sunil

Hi,

Can you please export and send your profile configuration (select the profile > right click > Export Profile) to support@2brightsparks.com for investigation?

Thank you.

Could you add Profile's folder function @main program?
Because sometimes, when you have a lot of profiles, you can only use background color for filter, it is not easy to find and use them, if you can add folder and let us group profiles that will more helpfull for us, Thanks

Hi,
Been a long time user of SyncBack in various forms. Which means I now have a heap of profiles.
Surely there's a way to print profiles with all the settings? If not, please do put it on your users' wishlist. I searched the forums and found a similar question and request from 2015 (the reply's been lost of course.. but from the user comment it was a negative).

It's a wonderful program and the features you have added over the years make for some pretty complex profiles. I'd like to print them all and have a reference on hand.
I know I can "modify" and take a screenshot... not quite the same thing, especially with run before/after programs, etc.

Cheers

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Resuming profile after a crash

If the computer restarts or something else interrupts a running profile, I would like to resume the profile where it left off.

I have some large backups (millions of items) from Azure storage containers. If they are interrupted, the re-scanning and re-comparing items already looked at wastes a great deal of time.

With AzCopy, if the program is stopped for any reason, I can simply rerun the same command and it will continue from where it left off. It doesn't need to rescan the source. It doesn't have to compare files already downloaded. It just resumes from the last file it was working on at the time of the interruption.

Does Syncback Pro support similar functionality?

Hi,

Sorry, but its not possible to backup files to multiple destination devices using a single profile. But, you can create a copy of the original profile (select the profile from SyncBackPro’s main-window > right click > select ‘Copy’ from the pop-up menu and give the copy a new name) and change the destination location as required.

Thank you.

Hi,

Can you please clarify what you mean by ‘Profile’s folder function’? Can you send a screenshot of it?

However, it's possible to create Group profile/s (in SyncBack) and add profiles as members to the group. Please read to the SyncBackPro help file > Basic Operations > Creating a Group profile for more details.

Thank you.

It depends when (at which point during the profile run) the Source disk begins to output erroneous information (or, fails to output any information at all). For example, it is possible the profile will detect that the Source disk is faulty and simply stop the run, citing the disk error. But if the drive masquerades as a working drive (but 'empty'), then the settings on this page

Modify profile > Expert mode > Copy/Delete > Warning

should trigger an unattended profile to stop before any of the proposed operations are performed, listing the reason in the log. Or, if you are running the profile in Attended mode (but the masses of intended Deletes listed in the Differences window have not alerted you already) the profile will warn you and ask for your decision whether to continue or abort.

Press F1 with Warning settings page open for more background. You can obviously adjust the percentages at which these traps will trigger.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Gibberish where text should be

I run Windows 10 Home in a VirtualBox VM on a linux host. This one day I decided to turn the CPU execution cap from 100% to 75%. Soon after starting the VM with this setting, it started to display everything on the screen all kinds of jumbled up. It was like those old video game cartridges when there was dust in them or they weren't seated properly & had bad connections. Also at this time, SBP began displaying the gibberish where the network communications status text should be.

Immediately I think about corrupt data being inadvertently written to disk, so I shut down immediately.

I've since reverted that VM from a backup, & started again with the SBP job. The only files I kept from the corrupted VM were the SBP profiles it exports at exit, & a couple scripts.

Today despite having restored to a backup that hadn't been affected by the scrambled video mess, I see again the gibberish on SBP. Not sure how this can be. Maybe the profiles caused it? I have no idea.

I could use a hand here, would rather not have to rebuild the whole OS & apps & all all over again.

Hi everyone,

Is it possible to move files to another folder after running a profile?

I copy files from source to destination, and if the copy is correct, I want to move them to another folder in source as "processed".

Thanks!

Hi, there's no dedicated function to do this: for example, you could make a Group with a 'copy' profile and a 'move' profile (in that order) but there's no way to configure any dependency of the 2nd profile upon success ('no errors') or otherwise of the 1st profile.

However, you can probably do it by cheating slightly using the Modify profile > Expert mode > Programs-Before > After functionality in your Copy profile to run a second instance of Pro that calls the Move profile via command-line. Note that Programs-Before > After will by default only run the 2nd instance/profile if the first instance/profile did not fail (that is to say, if its Result = Success) unless you use the relevant override option to sidestep it, which sounds 100% undesirable in your case.

You can generate a suitable command-line by creating a desktop shortcut to the Move profile (drag profile to desktop to create one), edit the shortcut, Copy the command-line inside it and Paste it into the relevant box in Programs > After. For example, on my 64-bit Windows 10 system, using the 64-bit version of SyncBackPro, my command-line to run a copy of Pro > a profile would be

"C:\Program Files\2BrightSparks\SyncBackPro\SyncBackPro.exe" "Name Of Desired Move Profile"

but if your system or program version differ(s)* you may need to adapt accordingly or use the shortcut trick to get an accurate CL (note: make sure you use the double-quotes). You should also give some thought to the other checkbox options in After section in case they are desirable in your case, but from what you say so far, they all look as though you can leave them in the default config (I.e. off, unchecked - except the top one, obviously!) so that you only need to set the top option and paste in your command line.

Note that this will briefly result in 2 copies of Pro running at the same time but by default (unless you configure the opposite), the original instance will self-close after calling the 2nd instance (and doing its own final housekeeping, e.g log file), so the extra resource drain should be brief/negligible.

* it's helpful when posting a question if you quote the version number (x.x.x.x) of SB, and your OS flavor, also the 'bitness' of both. The above is based on Pro V8.5.72.0 X64

hey guy im having this issue: On the log screen one of the options says "If the user cannot be prompted to choose an action then: "This was a bit confusing at first. We assumed that any prompt would be recorded. The help file does clearly explain it's referring to file decision prompts, but just thought we would point it out in case you wanted to make the GUI any more clear. i work in a fashon and that kind of crappy things department but im really good at this :)

I have just started using SyncBackFree on Win 10.

I have set up a number of profiles to run daily in the small hours, and they do seem to be working.

However, the Last Run and Next Run times are all 24 hours behind what they should be. I have tried to fund a reason but no joy so far.

Is it safe to assume based on the lack of reply here that no one's experienced this kind of mess mine's in?

I guess I'll have to reinstall the OS. :-(

Hi

Are you leveraging a copy (instance) of SBF that has been open in the background overnight to check the runs were successful? Note that a Windows Scheduled Task (created at your request by SBF when Scheduling a profile) opens/uses/closes another separate instance of the SBF program to run scheduled profile/s, so an already-open idle instance may get out of step in regard to polling recent info (occasioned by the scheduled activity) to display to you. Try pressing F5 in SBF to refresh the SBF GUI (or close & restart your foreground copy of SBF) and see if the values for LastRun & NextRun update?

If not, then all I can think of right now is some issue with your PC whereby the system time (viewed in isolation) is accurate but the system date is 'one day wrong' and you didn't notice. This should be hard to achieve these days, as Windows 10 by default checks the system clock with NTP time servers across the internet, so this shouldn't ever happen, but hey, systems are not foolproof. It may be faintly possible you have accidentally specified a regional setting that is 24 hrs different to your real regional time/date, but that would need careful planning to achieve and I guess only possible in the case of certain regions near the international date-line.
