About these stored passwords; I'm looking to crack a password stored in syncback, in the hopes of finding my forgotten nas password.
I see where the hash values stored in the windows registry; any clues to how I decrypt them??

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Scheduled run not writing to browser

$

I'm sure this is something dumb, but...

Syncback free is scheduled to run every morning at 1 a.m. Every time I set the schedule up, I let it pick the current date, set the time to 1 a.m., leave Recur every to 1 days.
In Repeating, I check Run this profile every and leave it at 1 days and check "indefinitely".

I always get the warning "The schedule is set to repeat for longer than it recurs. Are you sure you want to continue?"

I always tell it yes, and a task gets created in the task manager.

And I THINK it runs at 1 a.m. All of which is fine as near as I can tell...

But SOMETHING has changed:
When the task manager runs it, and an error occurs in one of the backups, it APPEARS that nothing is getting sent to the browser to let me know there was a problem... If I run it INTERACTIVELY, errors DO get sent to the browser.
I KNOW there's at least one error 'cause I have a backup that tries to write to a disk that isn't always in the system. And when it's NOT, and I run it interactively, I get an error in the browser. But when it runs on schedule I get NOTHING...

Other than blowing away the schedule that's been working for a long time, and creating a new one, I haven't changed ANYTHING. I even went into the task scheduler and blew away everything up to and including the 2BrightSparks folder, then created the schedule again. NO change...

SO, how come I'm not getting error messages in the browser any more? What changed that I'm not aware of?

SyncBackFree (freeware) • No schedule task after changed Windows AD password

Hi,

Sorry if this topic has already been created, but I couldn't find any one for my problems.

I'm a member of a domain Active Directory and after have changed my password, my SyncBackFree's scheduled tasks cannot run anymore.
I run Windows 10 v.1803 and to solve I modified each task with the new password but I wonder if there's another way to solve it because it's not really confortable (Especially if you need to manage many others computers with the same issue).

Has anybody got a solution about that ?

Thank you in advance!

Have a nice day.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • ... is it possible ?

I use syncback for a long time, syncing folders on different storages and was always happy.
Now I have a Problem syncing two Windows Clients and I dont know if it is possible to sync with syncback Software?

1st PC is the new media Center connected to TV. I have on the local storage Family Fotos, mp3 and Videos in a large folderstructure.
2nd PC is my working Client, where I have the same folderstructure with files.
Syncing is not a Problem, BUT …

If I have new Fotos and put them in structure on PC2.
On PC1 my wife deleted some Fotos that she doesnt want. Sometimes the Folder leaves empty, sometimes only 1foto is deleted and others already in.

If the Folder is empty, the timestamp is new(er) as on PC2.

How can I sync it?

Hi,
I always get the warning "The schedule is set to repeat for longer than it recurs. Are you sure you want to continue?"
The warning message appeared as you have scheduled the profile to run forever or repeat the profile run longer than it recurs. If you want to run the profile once every day then please un-tick the option 'Run this profile every' under:

Modify > When > Edit Schedule > Repeating tab

Repeat interval is only needed if you want to run the profile several times throughout the day. Also, please do not enable 'Indefinitely' option under:

When > Edit Schedule > Repeating tab

because this can sometimes cause instability in the Windows Task Scheduler with a cascade of task building up in the Task Scheduler. Therefore, please disable it.
When the task manager runs it, and an error occurs in one of the backups, it APPEARS that nothing is getting sent to the browser to let me know there was a problem... If I run it INTERACTIVELY, errors DO get sent to the browser.
Can you please clarify the version of Windows you are using? Is it Windows 10?

If yes, then it is due to the new security changes introduced in Windows 10. In Windows 10 a schedule task is run in session-0 which is different from the user logged-on session (unless the task is set to run only when logged on), thus it’s not possible for a schedule task to run interactively with the user and display the log file.

However, if the schedule the task is configured to "Run only when user is logged on" (under: When > Edit Schedule > Security tab), then the log file will be opened in the browser after the profile run.

Thank you.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • SMB delete does un-necessary directory file list

$

Hi All,

Have been a SyncBackSE user for years and generally have found the application awesome.
Recently I switched to Mozilla Firefox, and have found my backups have begun to fail.

After tracing through debug logs, running wireshark sessions, and other troubleshooting; I have come to the following conclusion:

Facts:
- The Mozilla Firefox profile cache directory has ~70,000 files in it (%AppData%\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*ProfileID*\cache2\entries)
- The directory is very active - contents change frequently. New files added. Old files deleted.
- A file-listing over SMB of this directory takes ~25 seconds to complete.
- SyncBackSE is running in mirror source->destination mode
- The backup profile is configured to use 'Standard Windows file copying' (although I have tried 'Windows Explorer method of file copying' too)
- COPYING each file from source to destination takes a reasonable amount of time

Issue:
- DELETING each file on the destination which no longer exist on the source takes ~25 seconds!
- This is multiplied by EACH FILE which must be deleted on the destination!

Reason:
- Wireshark investigation reveals that whichever method SyncBackSE is using to issue a DELETE on a single file, it first issues an un-necessary full directory file listing, incurring the ~25 second wait time to retrieve the list of ~70,000 files.

Comparison:
- Mapping the SMB path in question to a drive-letter and then using the command prompt to DEL one of the same files incurs the same behavior pattern - it appears the command line DEL command also issues an un-necessary full directory file-listing for each single file deleted
- Using C# to issue a System.IO.File.Delete() on the same files does NOT incur the same pattern. A full directory file-listing is NOT done, and the file is deleted instantly.

Questions:
- Has anyone else had this issue?
- SyncBack support: Is this expected behavior when set to 'Standard Windows file copying' ? I would expect it to happen if set to 'Windows Explorer method of file copying', but I would expect 'Standard Windows file copying' to use similar kernel calls as C# uses and not incur the penalty of a full directory file-listing when deleting a specific, individual file.

Addendum:
- I am not able to change to another copying method than SMB
- The firefox cache may not be important - some may say skip it - but that is not the only directory exhibiting this behavior; it is only a good example
- It is not sufficient to expect the server to return the file listing faster. This is simply not possible on all SMB implementations; and should not be necessary for deleting a single specific file

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Versioning and zipping single files

When using file versioning the previous versions are stored in a $SBV$ folder.
To save space one might limit the number of versions to e.g. 2
But would it also be possible to have those files zipped then?

This would be nice considering having multiple versions of multiple 100MB+ of document files
like Excel sheets, Word documents , or image files (like png)

Thanks.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • OneDrive integration failing due to deprecated API

I'm running SyncBackPro v7.12.12.0 on Windows 10 64-bit. I've had it configured for sometime to backup a local drive to my Microsoft OneDrive. The last successful run was on 1/5/2019. The run from 1/12/2019 failed with the following error:

Failed to prepare OneDrive : api_deprecated: This API is no longer supported. Please see https://aka.ms/livesdkmigration for information about migrating your application to Microsoft Graph.

It seems that Microsoft blocked the API being used by this version of the software. The Microsoft site referenced indicates that the was to stop working on 11/1/2018. So, I'm glad they didn't immediately pull it but it appears to be down now.

I have 2 questions:
1) Any chance that 2BrightSparks patched v7 before ending support? If so, is there a download site?
2) If I need to buy a new version, does the latest version of SyncBackPro v8 support the new API?

Hi,

You need to use the new OneDrive's API supported in SyncBackPro V8 to resolve your issue. Please submit a support ticket to support@2brightsparks.com for the instructions to change your profile configuration to new OneDrive's API.

Thank you.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Manual-start SyncBack run not writing to destination

Running SyncBack V8.5.115.0 under Windows 10 Pro. Just downloaded this updated version today and ran it. Backup finished too quickly and nothing was written to the destination USB hard drive. The log said 250MB was written, but destination shows only old November backup. Tried uninstalling, downloaded again from the Website, installed, tried again... same thing. SyncBack has always run flawlessly before, always indicating a general "failure" because of locked AppData files, but all user files back up just fine. Any ideas anyone?

How can I request a feature? It would be convenient to be able to specify a default comparison program in the dialog "External file comparison tools". I use Beyond Compare. Setting the comparison program per extension is useful but cumbersome if there are several dozen extensions to be taken care of.

Well, the new version does seem to be working now, maybe the interface is a bit different or I hosed-up before. HOWEVER I still have the problem that, once the program has run, it disappears from the Start Menu. In the old version, there was a # / 2BrightSparks / Mount SyncBack Container and / SyncBack Free. Clicking on that list item would start the program. Now just Mount SyncBack Container is there and I have to go to into the Program Files listing and find the .exe to start this new version. This is the case on two Windows 10 computers now. Ideas?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Clone MTP device

Hi,

SyncBack supports backing-up files/folders created by the user or files that user has access to from your device. For example: user's photos, music, videos etc., It does not support backing-up system files, calendars, contacts or operating system files due to access restrictions. Also there isn't any real benefit trying to back up such files as they will not function as you expect, when you restore them.

To backup user files, you can either create an MTP profile in SyncBackPro V8 or use SyncBack Touch with SyncBackPro to backup files to/from your device.

SyncBack Touch Profile:

1. Install SyncBack Touch on your Android device and create a profile in SyncBackPro to backup files from the remote Touch device to local drive.

Each licensed copy of SyncBackPro comes with 2 free connections to 2 SyncBack Touch devices. You can refer to the below links for more details about SyncBack Touch and how to create and configure a Touch profile:

https://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/sbt.html

https://help.2brightsparks.com/support/solutions/articles/43000335613

https://www.2brightsparks.com/resources/articles/create-syncback-touch-profile.html

MTP profile:

a. Create a New Profile via the Profile Creation Wizard and follow the on-screen prompts. You will need to select Media Transfer Protocol as Profile's Source and local drive as Destination in the 3rd screen and click on Next button.

b. You should be brought to the next page, which is the "Select Media Transfer protocol device" page, there you can select the device you want to connect and click on Done button.

c. Once the profile is created, you can configure the Destination path and Source sub-folder by clicking on the browse button next to "Media Transfer Protocol" under:

Modify > Simple settings page

When backing-up files using MTP you can't set the root folder (\) as the source, you have to select a specific folder from which you want to backup files as the source path.

d. Then run the profile to backup files from Source to the Destination.

Thank you

Hi,

The start menu shortcut issue was fixed in V8.5.90.0. You can refer to the change history here:

https://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/changes.html

V8.5.90.0 SyncBackPro, SyncBackSE, SyncBackLite and SyncBackFree (19th September 2018)

Fixed: Roaming shortcuts that were causing problem with Start Menu in Windows 10 are now automatically deleted

Can you please start SyncBackFree (V8.5.115.0) once and exit it (by clicking on the Exit button on the bottom right of the main-window) and see if SyncBackFree shortcut appears in 2BrightSparks folder in the start menu?

Thank you.
