SyncBackSE (commercial) • Re: Not clear on how to exclude folders for sync...

Hi,

Try adding the exclusion filter *\.git\ to "Files/Folder NOT to copy" list (on the right side of):

Modify profile > Simple > 'Change Filter' settings page

to ignore \.git\ folder and its contents from the backup selections.

Click on OK button to close the settings page and confirm any questions you may be asked about excluding any matching files/folders and test the profile to see if it resolves your issue.

Thank you

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Cannot creat folder - NAS

When trying to backup files (for the first time) to a NAS, most of the files copied without incident(26K files), except for a bunch which did not (24K files had this error) with the following error message:

"Failed to copy from Source : Cannot create folder: \\192.168.1.19\FileBackup\Multimedia\Images\Family\Vacations\JenWedding2017\ (The specified path is invalid)"

Any ideas? It can't be because of the number of directories, as other files with more directories copied fine. Space is not an issue either, have 340GB available yet (after the attempted backup), while the source drive has only 285GB on it, and I'm not even backing up everything.

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, build 1803
SyncBackSE V8.5.122.0 (64bit)
QNAP TS-259Pro+ with EXT4 file system.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Mirror only select directories to OneDrive / proper filter usage

I've got a local drive I'm mirroring to OneDrive.

Main local folder is: \JPG Photos\

Under this are many subdirectories named like this: 19-01, 19-02, etc... (19 for year, 1 for month etc..)

So I have \JPG Photos\01-1 through 19-03 at this point.

It takes forever to sync all photos (60,000 plus), though it does work if you can wait it out.

So I'd like to be able to put a profile together that just looks at sub-folders starting with "19", which would sync only the newer / recent photos.

So I've tried a filter which seems to select only the 19xx folders (using 19* in the filter setup), but it still takes forever because SB Pro still looks through all folders on OneDrive for some reason - even the 01, 02, 03 etc... folders, when I just want it to mirror the 19* directories w/out affecting the sub directories on OneDrive that are other than 19, and not to look at local files unless they are in a 19* directory.

Hope this makes sense, thanks for any help.

... So I see under Cloud>Advanced, there is a tick box "Retrieve a list of all files and folders, then filter (usually faster)" which is "Ticked" by default.

Unticked this and it works as I would have expected.

Might be faster to do my complete mirror operations (all directories / files) this way?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Confused not backing up everything?

OK so I have been using Robocopy for years but the newest version of that software sends a useless log file to me. So I broke down and bought Syncback Pro. I have had nothing but problems using this software? I read people saying they have been using it for years no problem? So I must definitely be doing something wrong? Here is the setup on my work network. Source = \\Servername\Public Destination = \\Servername\servername {folder}. I tried this and it scanned and only found like 93 files to backup and there is probably close to a terabyte of data in three folders on the source? I selected backup and did a simple setup for the profile. The only thing I did modify is I told it that the source was a Syncback Touch device and that tested fine. Now the destination is a brand new RAID 10 array on a new server I rebuilt which was empty and ready to accept data but when the profile runs after scanning it states there are only 93 files to backup? To be completely open I did have this configured to run last night as a group to backup two different sources but that failed miserably so I deleted those profiles and started over again with pretty much the same result? I have been doing this stuff for quite a few years and normally don't have difficulty with new software but this is frustrating me to no end?

Hi Swapna,

I am using V8.5.5.0 now and follow the step you said, but after authorized from Google, I can't see a "Refresh" button which only shows in "Google storage" service.
Please see below,
Image

and when I switch to Google Storage, the list box shows up
Image

But we don't have Google Storage service available.
How can we use "Google Drive" connection to access our "Google Team Drive"

Thanks.

3. The ‘Cloud connection Details’ page will open. Click on the Authorize button at that page to start the authorization process. From there, you may need to follow the on-screen prompts to allow authorized access to SyncBackPro

4. Once the authorization is successful, click on ‘Refresh’ button to retrieve a list of Team Drives that your account has access to. Select the Team Drive that you want to use (from the list box) and click on ‘Done’ button

Thank you.

Hi,

Can you please generate/submit a support zip with debug logs of the scan phase to support@2brightsparks.com for further investigation. To do this, enable 'Output debug information' from Preferences menu and run the profile in manual mode (ctrl + R). When the Differences Window is displayed abort the profile run and submit the support zip as per the instructions given here:
https://help.2brightsparks.com/support/solutions/articles/43000335603

If your Zip is over 30MB, contact us for alternate instructions, advising the actual size. Do not try to attach to the ticket!

Do not post (nor links to) Support Zips on this open forum.

Thank you

Does Syncback pro offer support for S3 deep archive?

Hi,

Note SyncBackPro V8 supports file backup to Glacier through Amazon S3 (not directly to Glacier). Once the files are copied to S3, Amazon does the pushing automatically from S3 to Glacier based on the lifecycle rules set in S3. Therefore, you can use SyncBackPro V8 to backup files to S3 Glacier Deep Archive. For additional details, please read Amazon Glacier article.

However, it’s not possible to restore files from Glacier Deep Archive using V8. This feature will be supported in the next major version (V9). SyncBack V9 is still a work-in-progress and we have no ETA on when it will be available.

Thank you.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • 64-bit version?

Sorry if this has been asked before... I tried searching the forum for 64-bit but was told the search term was "too simple". :?

I've noticed that SyncBack is still a 32-bit application. Would a 64-bit version have any advantages (e.g. comparison speed)? If so, do you plan to develop one?

Thanks!

I don't have a local password set as I'm using my Windows Live account. I want to set scheduled syncing after data loss as I've been doing this manually. When I try to set this up I get prompts to enter my Windows password but I don't have one.

Hi, New to SyncBack and finding my way around how to create background backups. I see the feature to run a profile "when a program stops". I would like to run my profile when for example I have finished working in EXCEL and close this program. What is the format of the script that needs to be written in the "add" box to identify that EXCEL has closed?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • copie sûres - safe copies

Bonjour,

Hello,
I use syncback to move files (CSV) from an ftp to a local folder.
When the file arrives on the local folder it is automatically processed by a DOS batch.
But I have a problem it happens that the file is processed by the batch before the end of the transfer.
Looking at the options I saw that:
copy/delete/Advanced -> Makes safe copies (copies files using a temporary file name and renames it if the copy is successful)
This is exactly what I need, but it doesn't seem to work. How is the temporary file renamed?

Merci de votre aide car c'est vraiment problématique.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • SyncBack Pro: Enabling Versioning on Existing Profiles

$

Hi everyone,
I currently have SyncBackPro V8.5.60.0 installed on a Windows Server 2012 R2 box. I have multiple profiles set up which are part of a profile group. All profiles are Mirrors. The source is the server itself (i.e. D\Accounting) and the destination is a QNAP NAS box. Currently none of the profiles have versioning enabled. I would like to enable versioning on all of the profiles but I wanted to make sure this is OK to do. I've recently run into a serious issue with another backup product on a different box when trying to enable versioning on an existing backup plan (it caused the software to consume all available RAM, crashing the server). Is this something that is OK to do in SB Pro? To be safe I could always completely delete the backup data set on the destination and perform a "full" mirror after enabling versioning.

One last point of clarification: The multiple profiles I have set up each represent a directory on the source server (i.e. D:\Accounting, D:\Public, etc). Each profile mirrors data to its respective folder on the destination NAS (i.e. 172.21.51.60\Accounting, 172.21.51.60\Public, etc). I combined these into a profile group which is set to run daily. My end goal is to enable versioning on all profiles.
I look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts!

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: SyncBack Pro: Enabling Versioning on Existing Profiles

Hi,

SyncBack (by default) uses last modification date/time stamps and file sizes to detect the differences on source and destination, and copy new or changed files from source to destination (without overwriting unchanged files). And a version file is created before a file on Destination is replaced, deleted or moved (and store version files in a hidden $SBV$ folder). It does not create versions of unchanged files or for new files that are copied to your Destination (or files that are changed before enabling Versioning option).

Therefore, if the last modification date/time stamps and/or sizes on source and destination does not match then SyncBack may propose to recopy all files again and create version files. So, I suggest running the profile in simulated mode (ctrl + S) and check the Differences Window for the list of files/folders proposed for copying (or deleting) before the actual run.

Thank you
