SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: Certain files under a Windows Junction are not being backed up

Solved- the zip files have the temporary attribute and as such Syncback was ignoring the files. Unticking the default "Do not copy files marked as temporary" resolved the issue.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • What are "collisions"? 7 Critical Errors!

The run to mirror two external USB drive (same kind) failed giving me a "critical error" message saying that 7 files couldn't be copied, deleted, or compressed. Then it took me to the following link showing 6 collisions. I don't know how to make sense of any of the info there or what to do...

file:///C:/Users/markf/AppData/Local/2BrightSparks/SyncBackFree/Logs/Backup%20Drive%20Mirroring_Log_Page1.html

Could it be that file names are too long? Or maybe it can't make the edits I made to the original drive for some reason? I remember changing the names of some folders, I think, maybe some files too.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Schedule a backup on the 5th Tuesday

$

I have two profiles with the following schedules
1) 1st, 3rd, and last Tuesday of each month
2) 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month

What I need is for the first profile to run on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday. As it is now, SyncBack runs both profiles on the 4th Tuesday of each month. However, the 4th Tuesday is not always the last Tuesday. Occasionally there are months with 5 Tuesdays.

The profile runs properly if there is a 5th Tuesday, as it is also the last Tuesday of the month.

Is there a way to schedule for the 5th Tuesday (or any other day of the week) of the month?

Thanks!

Kathy

I recently performed a back up from a thumb drive to an external drive.
All went normally and the backup was flagged a success and the log show all files were back up.

But, the destination folder is nowhere to be be found!

Here are screen shots of the process:
https://epicroadtrips.us/syncback/

I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out what is going on.

Any clues from anyone out there?
Thanks,
WV-Mike

Hi,

We do not have a scheduler in SyncBack. We rely on Windows Task Scheduler (WTS) to run tasks on the scheduled date/time. When you create a Schedule within a profile, we are only providing a drill-down into the Windows Task Scheduler interface through our program settings interface to facilitate SyncBack users in the creation and configuration of a Scheduled Tasks.

Therefore, the options you see in the profile’s > When > Edit Schedule settings page are same as the options available in the Task Scheduler. As there is no option in the Task Scheduler to trigger a task on 5th Tuesday (or any other day in that week), this option is not available in SyncBack.

Thank you

Hi,

Unfortunately at the moment the OneDrive Personal Vault is not available via the OneDrive API which means it cannot be accessed by SyncBackPro. If Microsoft extends its API to include the Personal Vault then we will have a look at it and see how to incorporate it in SyncBackPro.

Thanks,

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Double quotes error

Hi!

It is known that Windows does not support a double quotes in a file name.
SyncBackPro gives an error message: "Failed to copy from Source: Cannot copy file (123)", when
user try to copy the file which name contains double quotes.
As a result the user feels discomfort as it is impossible to synchronize catalogs completely.
If to download the same file by means of Google Chrome, then the file will be loaded.
At the same time double quotes in a name of the file are replaced with single quotes.
Whether it is possible to make in Syncbackpro something similar?

Thanks

I tried setting uo my email to receive the log file, but after hours of running SyncBack, this is all I got:

How can I find out what is the file that can't be opened?

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Feature request: "safe detele" in mirror type profiles

$

Hi!

I use Syncback for many years to "mirror" some local backups to an external FTP, but I must use another backup software to do those first backups because it has something I need, and Syncback can't do.

I always do mirror backups, so if source gets damaged I can recover an exact copy of it... but at the same time I need to be sure that if a file is accidentally deleted from source, mirror job doesn't just delete destination file, but "move" it to somewhere else. In other backup software this feature is called "safe erase": you just set a path, and mirror task moves source deleted files to that path (keeping relative path). I then just need to have a look to that path from time to time, and definitelly delete those correctly deleted files.

Do you think this is something feasible? I would do it inside "Decision - files" section, as a new option in the combo "what to do if a file is on Destination but not in Source"... and let the user set a path to move those "Source deleted" files.

bye!

Hi,

To view the log file, select/highlight the profile from SyncBack main-window > right click > select 'View Log' > Newest from the pop-up menu.

Thank you.

Hi,

I corrected the type error in the subject.

Versioning feature in SyncBackPro/SE, creates version of a file before a file on the Destination is replaced, deleted or moved and store the version files in a hidden $SBV$ folder within the scope of the profile's Destination. So if you want to recover deleted files then you can easily restore/rollback your files from version files. Read this article for the procedure to restore/rollback files:
https://www.2brightsparks.com/resources/articles/restore-from-versions.html

I suggest reading the Help file for more details about versioning. With Versioning settings page opened, press F1 to open the contextual help for more details.

If you do not own a copy of SyncBackPro/SE and wish to test it's functions, you are welcome to try our fully functional SyncBack, which we offer a free 30-day evaluation.

https://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/software/SyncBackPro_Setup.exe
https://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/software/SyncBackSE_Setup.exe

If you do decide to purchase, the serial number will convert the 'trial' to the 'registered' version.

Thank you.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Error when trying to use FTP

$

I have used FTP with SyncBackFree many times, but not recently.

With SyncBackFree v9.2.30.0 (32-bit) on Windows 7 64-bit, I always get the error "Unable to connect: The FTP component could not be created, class not registered." when pressing the "Test FTP Settings" button while creating a new profile.

There is a long GUID listed for the non-registered class, but there is no copy button to copy it, and there's something weird about that message box that prevents it from being picked up by NirSoft's SysExporter (https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/sysexp.html).

Please advise.

It looks like post editing functionality has been turned off for these forums. Can you re-enable it?

Also, perhaps you can add a 'Copy to clipboard' button to SyncBackFree's error boxes and/or allow selecting and copying text within the actual error boxes.

I think I've diagnosed the cause of the problem.

I use the portable version of SyncBackFree (thank you having a portable version!).

It looks like you are using wodFtpDLX.dll from Secure Plus in Croatia. The file is detailed here: https://www.weonlydo.com/FtpDLX/Help/wodFtpDLX-Technical-information.html

As expected (and desired), that dll does not get registered in the Windows registry for the portable version. But either SyncBackFree or wodFtpDLX.dll is throwing an error when that dll is not registered.

Okay, you owe me a tall glass of lemonade for figuring this out. Can you fix the issue?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Multiple instances

We have had a Synback Pro server running for a few years now and during the last monts I have noticed that every time I log in to the server there are multiple instances of syncback in the task bar and in the task manager.
Capture.PNG
Capture2.PNG
It puzzels me since the back up jobs are defined with 3 to 5 minutes apart and one of them takes more than 20 seconds to execute. Currently we have 96 jobs and all of them are running smoothly so I cant undertsand why the intances are initiated.

The machine is a W2k8 R2 virutal guest on VMWare 6.5 with 8 Gb of ram and 1 vCPU.

Has anyone of you seen this before?
