SyncBackPro (commercial) • Is it better to rely on S3 or Syncback versioning

I want to use versions, both to protect against accidental deletions/changes but also to protect against a slow-activating virus. I know S3 has built in versioning support. Do people generaly recommend S3 or Syncback for versioning control, and what are the pros/cons?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Unscheduled Profiles Running

I have numerous profiles scheduled to run at specific times on specific days.

My concern is that some profiles are running on some days not specified i.e. a profile is set to run on Monday Thursday & Saturday (1, 4 & 6) however that same profile may also run on Tuesday, 2 and or Wednesday, 3.

I don't know where to start in identifying the problem, other than deleting and re-entering the profile which may or may not work. has anyone experienced this problem and if so, what is the solution

Thank you

Geoff

SyncBackSE (commercial) • How to auto-remove entries with red background (=no folder on both sides)?

When I modify a certain (sync) profile and click on button "Choose sub-directories and files" then all currently detected files and folders are listed.

Occasionally some of the files/folders have a red background indicating that the file/folder does not exist on both sides (any more).

How can I auto-clear these lines (=remove automatically these entries)?

Peter

Alternatively, you can enter \storage\ in the Touch path to see the contents of external SD card and select the sub-folder with the external SD card ID.
Thank you, that was the only tip that worked on an unrooted smartphone with Android 9.

But this did not work with \emulated\0\.

We need an update for newer Android versions.
MTP is running faster but needs an USB cable.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • rudimentary questions about mirror backing up

$

Hi. I've been using syncback free to backup only my data on a 64 bit Windows 10 computer. It's been going great until today when syncback is warning me that it will delete files of its own choosing. So some questions.

1) What does the red shading on the file names on the "Destination" side mean? (It's there sometimes even when "copying to destination.")

2) The files syncback is for some reason adding to my source side are NTUSER.DAT files and then it's deleting those files on the Destination side. And there's no size and Date & time for these files on the source side. I'm thoroughly confused. What's up with that?

3) From searching online I see that NTUSER files can be important to the registry. What should I do?

Thanks.

Hi,

You can click on the 'Clean up' button (on the left side of the Choose sub-directories and files settings page) or tick the 'Clean up automatically' option (from burger menu > settings page) to remove non-existing file and folders from your selections.

Thank you.

I have SyncBackSE in Windows Server 2008.
Can I use the same key to install SyncBackSE to a new Windows Server 2019? How?
Do I need to un-install it from Server 2008 first?
Thanks,
Joe

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Hunting a bug on ftp transfers

$

Hi,

I've got a remote and rather old NAS which I access through FTP to backup some personal files.

The thing is that Syncback is THE ONLY app I've found capable of transferring files to this ftp keeping modification date/time. I know is this quite difficult, and more with old embeded ftp servers... But if I configure Syncback with WeOnlyDo FTP engine AND to do safe copies, it somehow is able to keep modification date/time. With any other combination, I doesn't keep them. I'm quite curious about this, but this is not the problem.

My problem is that this combination is no stable. Every now and then, always while transferring files to remote ftp, after some docens o ok transfers, SyncbackPro just closes. No errors in app or windows system logs. App log (both regular and debug one) just cuts out.

I've tested 32 & 64 bit versions. Same thing...

I don't attach log, as I've told you it doesn't throw any error.

What could I try? I've tested disabling safe copies and it doesn't crash. I've also tested changing ftp engine to SmartFTP & Eldos, and it doesn't crash... But doing either I lose keeping modification date/time, which I want... :(

Regarding Dropbox, SyncBackPro is using the REST API provided by Dropbox and by doing so it has to abide by some rules when using it. These kind of APIs impose some limitations to 3rd party applications that their own sync clients don't have to (e.g. concurrent connections, max. upload size, etc). Actually they could be using a totally different set of private API for this matter and do as they please.
This is an old thread and OneDrive is mentioned in this thread as well regarding upload speeds.

When using SBP 9.2.39.0 uploading speed to OneDrive is really slow even now year 2020. Can this really only be explained by the API?

If i use CloudBerry Explorer 3.1.0.17 the upload speeds are around 100 Mbps and files are uploaded using several threads. Since MSP 360 are using the API provided by Microsoft as well one would expect the same slow upload speeds, so what´s the difference?

MSP offers better syncing possibilities than CloudBerry Explorer 3.1.0.17 but really don´t understand why the upload speed throttles all the time with SBP while CloudBerry Explorer 3.1.0.17 uses all the aviable bandwidth making uploads fast. For the moment i am using a trial version of SBP.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Backup Google Drive to computer

I am trying to do something unusual. :D I am backing up a folder on Google Drive to my computer using Syncback Pro. I have it set up and working, version control on. The issue is that when the files such as Google Docs and Sheet files are backed up to my computer, the files have no extensions. I can manually add extensions such as .docx and .xlsx to the files and they open file in Word or Excel, but just wondering if there is any way to have the extensions automatically added. May not be possible but since when I upload an Excel file to Google Drive, it is automatically converted to Sheets format, didn't know if I could do similar the other way when backing up using Syncback Pro. I know the Excel can be added when I manually download a file.

Sadly, this version have another bug.
When mirroring by FTP all the destination file have 00:00 as time.
So they're all different from original, and they are all deleted and backed up again.
When you have 4 To of data, it's quite long....

I use Syncback Free on a Windows 10pc.

How I have a strange issue and wonder if anyone can help.

I have it set up to copy the Lightroom Catalogue file from one pc to another but when I try to open Lightroom on the destination pc it says that the Catalogue file is not valid.

If I copy the same file via Windows Explorer the file opens fine.

I cannot understand why this happens. Does anyone know if SyncBack changes the characteristics of the file at all?

Thanks for your help.

Charles

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: Backup Google Drive to computer

I believe this has been answered previously by Swapna:

"SyncBackPro downloads the native Docs files without extensions because it sees the files as-is on the cloud server. For example: "TestFile" with just the name of the file without any extension and that is what's listed on the Cloud service. Since, there is no extension for the downloaded file, the user(or Windows) may not know exact file format(of that downloaded file) to open/view it.

However, if you rename those files with proper extension(example .doc) on Google Drive, manually(prior to the download), the files gets downloaded with extensions and can be opened/viewed automatically using their default editor."

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Number of worker threads - How to use?

$

I am syncing folders to Backblaze B2 and discovered the Cloud > Advanced > Number of worker threads (too many will degrade performance) setting. By changing the standard value to let´s say 20 or 30 it did make i huge difference and a sync with photos uploaded way faster than when it was set to the standard value of 3.

The question i have is how do one determine the value, by computer CPU threads, by file sizes, by amount of RAM, by cloud provider? I have found no examples in the help that describes different user scenarios that this setting can degrade performance. I want to know how one find the sweet spot for this useful feature. Guessing and testing takes too long time. :)

It would be great to know "...if your files are larger (or smaller) than xx Mb you should set it according to this guidelines." [2bs]

Hi,

We fixed that error in the release version of SyncBack. Please download and install SyncBackFree V9.3.4.0 from here and test the email notification:
https://www.2brightsparks.com/download-syncbackfree.html

Do not uninstall and reinstall, or you'll lose your profiles & settings. Just install 'over the top'.

Thank you.
