SyncBackFree (freeware) • FTP leading to delete/copy again?

$

Hello,
For whatever reason, the biggest directory I need to mirror is created each time, spending almost one hour, for comparison and new copy.
Distant access is reachable by FTP, maybe it is the reason why he wants to create as new each time, when the comparison is showing dates as 00:00:00 for example.
I don't see any other option than FTP like smb or nfs, is it possible?
Thank you.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: Failed to scan files: SyncBackFree is unreliable

Further investigation shows that SyncBackFree is unreliable.

I run certain backups every night (7, well spaced), and others once a month (9, timed so as not to interfere with the nightly runs).

Notes:

1.) Backups are reported (in logs) as "Scan Failure" but the backup files are there.

2.) Backups are reported as "Success" but the file is not there.

3.) Items 1 & 2 are not consistent, i.e. not the same backup on consecutive nights or on any consistent pattern.

4.) The backup can be run manually with no problems.

Conclusion: After many years of use, SyncBackFree is currently unreliable and should be posted as such!

Apologies for the delay in replying. I've only just been able to pick this up.

Thanks very much for your suggestions. I'll give them a go and let you know how I get on.
Can I ask for clarification on your second line please - are you referring to Task Scheduler where I need to add 3 mins to the current time as the new trigger?

In Settings it's scheduled to repeat every 1 day and 'Indefinitely' is ticked too. Is that what you're saying should be 0 days?

Also in 'Settings' I have 'run even if user not logged on' ticked, as well as 'wake computer up to run' and 'run task as soon as possible after scheduled time is missed' all ticked
But it doesn't seem to do any of that and runs very randomly and, it seems, only when I am logged on the odd occasion it does run. Oddly it's just run tonight for the first time in ages.
In case it's obvious to you (as it isn't to me :) ) my schedule is set for Monthly to run every calendar month on Days 1,5 and last. Someone else set it up for me and quite honestly, I don't understand what they've done or why 1,5 and last. I can't get hold of them anymore.

Many thanks

Help file shows:
If you are using Microsoft Outlook, your normally locked data file will be successfully copied even though it is in use. This feature is not available in SyncBackFree.

Hello,

I save a data folder everyday like path\%YEA%\%MONTH%\%DAY%\

But it backups 365 folders. Is it possible after a certain period to delete for example the month before (or keep only the first day of the month backup) ?

Thank you.

Hi,

I am having the same issue. Been using Syncback SE for many years and just started seeing this error in the last couple weeks. I'm running V8.9.15.0 (64-bit).

I have 14 total profiles. Only 1 is causing me this problem. I submitted a ticket to 2brightsparks and their response back was pretty brief. No factory support since this is not V9, and no referral to this forum.

This failing profile is very similar to 2 other profiles which are running fine. (These 3 profiles are backing up a large audio sample library drive).

It looks like there is no resolution to this in this forum, other than, "it's a bug". What's odd, though, is that is was working fine until just recently. No changes on my end, no changes to the profile parameters, etc.

Has anyone had any luck in resolving this?

Thank you,

Todd

Hi I just installed SyncBack Free and set up my profiles, when I go to automate the run schedule it asks for a password. Microsoft suggested switching to a Pin login for windows which I have done but SyncBack wont recognise it. Any suggestions

Is there any way to force versioning to use my time zone rather than UTC? If not, that would be great as an option.

You might try this:

In case others have this same issue, I resolved it by manually creating a Window Task Scheduler profile to run the desired profile in SyncBack (this is essentially what SyncBack does when you create a schedule within the program).

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Same profile --> multiple destinations?

Hi all,

I have a couple of external disks where I keep backups of my internal HD, weekly and monthly, respectively (Backup mode).

Is there a problem if I use the same profile to manually copy the files to the different external HD (as I switch them and therefore they have the same address "E:/ "? Does Syncback free have a database attached to the profile with names/times of files, or does it scans everything every time a profile is activated?

Thanks a lot,
John

I have the same setup and I just duplicate the 1st profile and give it a different name. I can just look at the profiles to see which one I ran last success & match a volume name to the profile name. I know syncbackSe & syncbackPro have a feature that does keep track of files on destinations so to be safe I use two separate profiles. Syncbackfree does scan the destination on backup profiles so I would say it is your choice.

Hello
I made an error, I have deleted the target from my Syncback profile before running the profile ... which just deleted my source !!!!!
Is it possible to go back?
I have tried several "undelete" software which do not see any of the files deleted by Synback ... are they really deleted in the Windows system ..
How to restore them?
Thank you for your help
Georges

You can try right clicking on the profile that deleted the files and select "Simulated Restore", then click on "Restore" in the simulated window. If all your files appear click "Continue Simulation".
If the simulation looks good then right click on the profile again and select "Restore", then click on "Restore", then "Continue Restore".
Good luck!

SyncBackFree (freeware) • schedule is set to repeat for longer than it recurs

Hi folks.

So this is a sync op to my local USB drive. I do not have specific working hours. So I might work from 10:00 to 14:00 one day and the next at 14:30 to 15:30. This sync op is for documents mainly. So what I want is for SBfree to start when I switch my laptop on (this is not available in free version it seems). So how do I go about setting a schedule that happens every 2 minutes? If I try and set it up I get the above error in the subject title. Also the task does not happen, it is not triggered the first time I set it up. If I do a manual run then the profile works by backing the contents up every 2 minutes.

Thanks for the help :)

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Problems ejecting external HDD

$

I am having a problem ejecting my external HDD after running profiles with SyncBackPro that copy files from my pc to an external HDD. In the same session I am also copying files from the external HDD to my OneDrive account. I have been doing this for 2+ years and this is a new problem that seems to have started since version 9.3.40.0 (64 bit). I say "seems" because I would occasionally have this issue in the past on my pc, but never had the issue on my wife's pc. Now it is happening on both pc's, every time. I am trying to eject manually, not through the SyncBackPro program and I get the dreaded message "This device is currently in use. etc."

The only solution I can use is to restart the pc. Any ideas on what could be the problem or how to resolve without a restart?
