SyncBackPro (commercial) • Mirror iCloud (via iCloud software)

Hi everyone,

I want to mirror my iCloud photos through the iCloud software/connector to a local disc. I've setup a backup job and it works when I start it interactivly, but if I schedule it I get this error:

Code:

Failed to copy from Source : Cannot copy file (395): Der Zugriff auf die Clouddatei wurde verweigert
(access denied to cloud file)

Windows 10 64-bit, iCloud 11.4

Any ideas?

Thanks

Michael

Can anyone tell me if there is any sense in running both a mirror and a backup profile for the same data?
Thanks

A mirror deletes files on the destination that are not on the source but a backup does not. It would be pointless to run a backup after a mirror as there would be no differences.

Hello,

When I use the copy function on a network drive.
New folders created on this drive are automatically selected in the application.
I only want to use the folders previously checked.

Anyone have an idea? :xmas)

Thank you in advance,

If you are synchronizing and don't want the destination folders copied back to the source then make your profile a Backup.

"A backup process copies files in one direction: from the source to the destination. A Synchronization process copies files in both directions: from the source to the destination and from the destination to the source."

SyncBackFree (freeware) • My Folders won't copy but all the files do?

I've used SyncBack a long time. But, having set it up way back then I've forgotten how, or it seems simple but it's not doing what I'd like, and I know it does and will. My PC crashed and now rebuilding it I want Syncback monitoring it again. But very simply.
'
All I want is for Syncback to copy a Desktop Folder with files to an External HDD as a folder with files. It copies all the files but not in the folder. Therefore if I have 8 folders I want resident on the Ext.HDD it's a bunch of files and no folder. So at one time I got this right, long ago. But it's been so long since I modified a profile I can't remember how to get this done. FOLDER ON DESKTOP>FOLDER ON EXT. HDD. That's all. Simple.

I'm not sure in the subdirectories to choose Right Left or Right/Left. etc. So many variables I don't need.

I'd appreciate any help to this, I'm sure, simple resolution to many of you! Thanks! jack ":-Dx

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Does not backup new files & folders

After my SyncBackFree backups, I had noticed that my new files and folders were not in the resultant backups. So I checked and notices that the squares for these new files and folders were not automatically checked in SyncBackFree. I had to edit the pre-backup setup and check these boxes myself for them to be included in the backup. I would have thought the boxes for any new files and folders would be checked by default. Anyone out there know why they aren't? Much appreciated.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Filtering out MacOS-specific files

Hi,

I have a NAS that I use with both Windows and Mac OS. Mac OS creates certain hidden MacOS-specific files, which caused a problem during synchronization. Therefore, I wanted to filter them out. (It is a problem similar to this one here [https://www.2brightsparks.com/bb/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=13687&p=51202&hilit=mac+files#p51202] but more difficult due to regular files with the same scheme.)

The files that are problematic are "duplicate" files of ordinary existing files (such as image files) just with an additonional ._ at the beginning of the file name.

Here are two examples:

Regular files:
Christmas2020_01.jpg
Christmas2020_02.jpg

Hidden "duplicate" files:
._Christmas2020_01.jpg
._Christmas2020_02.jpg

I know how to set up a filter for this type of file in SyncBack Pro but there is one problem. There are actually some normal files that have this ._ at the beginning too. These are NOT supposed to be filtered out.

The only difference that I can see between the MacOS-created files and the normal files is that the MacOS-created files are hidden.

So, is there any way how I could filter out these unwanted files from the synchronization profile without affecting the normal files?

Check: "Compare Options", Attributes, "Do not copy Hidden files".

Hi,

Please ensure that the root folder and sub-folders are configured to "Include new files/folders" under: Modify profile > Simple > Choose sub-directories and files settings page.

Thank you.

I thought of this run as admin. Did it and still asks for password. My admin account was never set up with a password. I live by myself and I don't need to be using password. What is the fix here if run as administrator doesn't work?

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Run on admin, syncback allows change in some profiles but not 1 particular

I have a win 10 PC. Just fully restore recently from image.

I am only using the administrator account this time hoping to avoid some issues with "you have to have admin permissions."

I have created several profiles and they allow me to edit schedule without asking for a password. 1 profile, which I deleted and re-created will not allow me to change schedule without password.

Why are the remainder allowing me to change schedule and not this one? As I said above I am on an admin account and I also stopped SB and ran it from Explorer on the exe file Run as Administrator. Same problem persists.

Has anyone knowledge what's going on here? Does it have anything to do with Run if Logged on or Run even if not Logged on?

Thanks for listening. jack ](*,)

The error log is showing this message for three files:
Failed to copy from Source : Cannot copy file (225): Operation did not complete successfully because the file contains a virus or potentially unwanted software
The files are definitely not a virus, and they are definitely wanted. :)

Is there a way to tell SyncBack that they're safe?

Most likely it is a false positive in your virus program. Try excluding the files there.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Changing Options want's Windows Password: I don't use a password?

I have a Windows 10 PC

When I tried often to create a new profile it would at the last moment throw up a "we need your windows password" . . . "if you don't have a password simply press OK." I like that word "Simply" Not all that simple. I press OK and it keeps going back to wanting a password.

In creating a new profile I've found a way around it. But that doesn't work here. I own the pc. I only have an administrator User Account. Still, wonderful Windows wants to argue with me when I try to change permissions, etc.

Any clue there for me? Oh, I have tried 2 of my main passwords for MS accounts and Google accounts.

Thanks! jack ":-Dx ](*,) :violent1:

This may help:
"SyncBackFree does not run elevated (unlike SyncBackPro and SyncBackSE). This means when you are asked if you want the blank password restriction removed it will run a special program elevated to remove the restriction. You must be an administrator, or have the administrator password, to remove it on Windows Vista and newer. An alternative is to do the following:

Login to Windows as an Administrator
Run SyncBackFree elevated. To do this right-click on SyncBackFree in the Windows Start menu (or on any SyncBackFree shortcut) and select Run as administrator from the pop-up menu. Alternatively, run Windows Explorer and navigate to the C:\Program Files\2BrightSparks\SyncBackFree folder*, right-click on SyncBackFree application (SyncBackFree.exe, if extensions are shown), and select Run as administrator from the pop-up menu.
If you are then asked to confirm running the program click Yes
Select your profile and click the Schedule button
You are now asked if you want to remove the blank password restriction. Click Yes. If you are not asked then it is either because the blank password restriction has already been removed or you have configured SyncBackFree not to remove the restriction. To make sure you are prompted select burger menu > Global Settings > Easy tab and make sure 'Prompt me to remove the blank password restriction on the Windows Scheduler' option is ticked/checked (For SyncBack V8 (or older versions) the option is in Preferences > Options from the main menu).
You may then be asked for your password. If you have no password, simply click OK. Do not click Cancel

* by default, for 32-bit versions of Windows: in 64-bit versions of Windows, this path will by default be C:\Program Files (x86)\2BrightSparks\SyncBackFree"

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Read Only exasperations. Can SBack backup modified files when it's Read Only Folder

Win 10 OS Latest Version / Up to date

I am having a terrible time finding how to get READ ONLY OFF folders and files. Some are and some aren't. I've followed many suggestions. None of them seem to work for the most part.

So my question is this.
Main Folder is on C:\\
Back Up Drive is an external drive.

If the folders and files say READ ONLY on both the source and the destination can SyncBack update those modified folders and files? Being that they are READ ONLY?

Thanks. jack ":-\\

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Using instead of traditional backup software

$

Hi. Used SyncbackPro for a long time now to help me move files around from CCTV cameras. However, I'm considering using it as a replacement for my backup software to backup user files (not operating system/partition).

Currently using software to do full (quarterly), differential (weekly) and incremental (daily) backups. The problem is that to retain the number of versions I want involves creating a lot of differential backups which is inefficient. Syncback seemly gives me much more control, but want to run my proposed usage by you experts before I take the plunge.

I would like to maintain 3x full monthly backups, have 5x versions of any changed file and backup daily:

- Create destination folder d:\backups\%MONTH%
- Run profile every day (not using fast backup - I don't mind the scan time penalty)
- Keep 5 versions

To remove old backups >3 months old, create housekeeping profile:
- Create empty folder c:\keepempty
- Mirror this to d:\backups
- Exclude files/folders created in last 3 months

Two questions:
1) Does this make sense? I'm slightly worried about using the "created date" in the housekeeping profile as I'm not sure of it's reliability
2) Am I missing important features that traditional backup software would give me?

Thanks very much!
