I'm still a bit confused about whether I want "backup" or "mirror". :/

Is the only difference between the two whether or not orphans are deleted on the destination (leaving aside for the moment any overrides in the settings)?

Will either one work with versioning, in terms of both storing old copies of current files, and old copies of deleted files?

And one slightly new question: Is the versioning *strictly* just copies of files with new names in the appropriate subfolder? That is, there's no database somewhere that's keeping track of versions?

I ask because I would like to know that in the future I can clean up things I no longer want by just deleting them from the version storage folder, without messing anything up.
