I don't seem to be able to replicate that, but I may have misunderstood your description. If I define a Variable in the Group as
Code:
FOLDERNAME = ChosenByGrpVar
and I set the Sources of 2 test child profiles in the Group as
Q:\%FOLDERNAME%\1\
Q:\%FOLDERNAME%\2\
respectively (so I can tell which profile created subfolder ...\1\ and which created ...\2\ ). If I then run the child profiles individually 'from' the Group's inner listing (that is, individually Run the link/s to the profile/s accessible 'inside' the Group), so the profile knows which Group to inherit the value from, it works - a folder
\ChosenByGrpVar\ and subfolder
\1\ are created on drive Q by profile #1, and similarly for profile #2 (also run individually 'from within' the Group). So far, same as you, but if I then delete those just-created folders and test again
by running the Group itself, it works exactly the same (i.e. correctly) also here...The only way I can get what you describe is if I arrange for Pro (via UI's Preferences menu, top option) to list all profiles in their Groups (if applicable)
and also list all profiles individually as stand-alone entries in the profile list. If I then Run each child profile
via its stand-alone list entry, then yes, this time I get Q:\%FOLDERNAME%\1\ created by profile #1, and Q:\%FOLDERNAME%\2\ used/created by profile #2. This is to be expected, because by using the stand-alone entry/s, Pro has been given no clues where to look to evaluate any Group Variable. Running it as a stand-alone profile doesn't imply/supply a 'drill-up' path to a specific Group - bearing in mind that any given profile can be in multiple Groups - or, none.
But I can't get it to create a folder on Q called %FOLDERNAME% (literally) if I run either profile using its Group entry/link or by running the actual Group itself.
MY tests were with the latest Pro v7.6.8.0 - not sure what you're using? If not, suggest first update and try again. If you still have a problem, it will likely need a support tech to review your settings, so suggest create a Support Zip of the Group (select the Group, then do Help menu > Technical Support Wizard > OK). This will pack a copy of your child profiles into the Zip as well as a copy of the Group profile, and it should auto-open a link to the support system - just use the Contact Support link upper right, describe your issue and attach the Support Zip
Note: even if you give a full description in the ticket, suggest include a link in the ticket to this forum thread
