Hi,
(1) How to change to "Expert Mode"
Modify profile > click on the burger menu (on the top-left of the page) > choose Expert from the menu
(2) No matter how much I tried, I just couldn't get the scheduler to schedule beyond 7PM !!!
To set the schedule time to 11 PM:
- Go to When > Edit Schedule page
- Press Ctrl+A to select the text in the time edit control and press 'Delete' key to make it empty
- Type 23:00:00
- Save the settings.

Thank you.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Horrendously Slow?

Hi,

I'm trying to get around 300GB from my M.2 laptop drive to my NAS (QNAP TS453Be) but given there are over 350,000 files it has currently taken nearly three days and is only 75% of the way there. I am using SyncBackPro.

I have a sync profile setup and this the first transfer from the laptop to the NAS.

Initially I was doing this over wifi but even switching to a GB ethernet connection was still estimating days for completion. It seemed to be processing one file approximately every second. There was no appreciable difference between wireless and wired connections.

I have ZoneAlarm anti-virus and Firewall installed so I checked to ensure SyncBackPro was in the applications list and as a test I've even disabled ZoneAlarm but as before there was no increase in speed. Windows Defender is disabled by default as I have third party anti-virus and firewall.

Is it normal to be this slow? Seems excessively slow - what have others encountered.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • SyncBack free/pro profiles

I have been using SyncBack free for some time now, and I am considering upgrading to SyncBack pro. I have two questions:

1. I have 17 different profiles all backing up at different times on SyncBack free. I seem to remember the exported profiles from SyncBack free are somehow different to the exported profiles from SyncBack pro. Therefore, will I be able to import SyncBack free profiles into SyncBack pro without any issues or not? What issues might there be?

2. In SyncBack pro, is it possible to choose individual files when carrying out a restore? For example, I have one profile that backs up various Microsoft configuration files. If I wanted to restore one individual file from several files/folders in that profile, would that be possible?

Hi,

1. Yes, you can import SyncBackFree profiles into SyncBackPro without any issues.

If SyncBackFree profiles are available on the computer where Pro is installed, then those profiles will be auto-imported into Pro when it is first run. So, please do not uninstall SyncBackFree before installing SyncBackPro. Note that Free & Pro are separate products, so they can be installed in parallel. But, do not install the two different versions to the same folder (use the default installation folder). Once the profiles are imported successfully into Pro you can uninstall Free from your computer.

Alternatively, you can export profiles from Free, make a copy of the profiles and import them manually into SyncBackPro. You can refer to Transfer Profiles article for details on exporting and importing your profiles.
https://help.2brightsparks.com/support/solutions/articles/43000335675

2. Yes, possible. Read this article for details on how to restore a single file from the backup drive:

Thank you

SyncBack Touch • Backup files on both internal storage and external SD card

Is it possible to Backup files on both internal storage and external SD card?

It seems like I can only get one location to sync.

This is my COVID-19 lock down project. I've been meaning to get SyncBack Touch up and running for, well, since it first came out.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,
I use the Backup function on a network drive, shared by multiple PCs and I want that newer files on the network drive should not be overwritten by older ones. Therefore: Source should overwrite Destination but only if Destination is older.
I can't find an appropriate filter.
I hope for your support.
Thank you very much
Marco

Ideas and general discussion • Run profiles in sequence

Hi,
I am "backuping" my PC on a NAS and I think it would be more efficient to run the differents profiles I have in sequence rather than in parallel.
 Is it possible to imagine a global parameter (checkbox ?) to run all the selected profiles in parallel or in sequence ?

Thanks for the good job. =D>
Regards
Thierry

SyncBackSE (commercial) • SYNC not working the way I expect

$

Hi, I am on SyncBackPro V9.3.4.0 (64 bits) on Windows 10.

I have a profile which is a pure SYNC profile.
Most of the time I do not touch the RIGHT drive, but I still want to make this a SYNC profile because there are cases where I occasionally make some changes to RIGHT.

I my common scenario, RIGHT is untouched:
  • I expect most of the operations will be to write new files to RIGHT, delete files on RIGHT, or rename on RIGHT.
  • I expect that no operation will take place on LEFT (no file delete, no file copy etc.)

If my understanding of a SYNC profile is not accurate, please let me know??

However for some reasons, I see the following issues:

#1 File renames seem not to work. Even If I change the name of a folder on LEFT, it seems that SyncBackPro will first delete the files with the old folder name, then copy the files with the new folder name. No file rename is taking place although I have the option checked.

#2 This is the most troubling issue. A file that does not exist anymore on LEFT (because I did a folder name change for example) -> SyncBackPro will propose me to recreate the file found on RIGHT and copy it to LEFT. It kind of recreates the file on LEFT with the old folder name.
If I accept everything, I end up with having on LEFT and on RIGHT both the old folder structure and the new folder structure with several file duplicates being created by SyncBackPro.

Even if I remove the options to detect file renames, the issue #2 remains.

In the end, to go around issue #2, I have to force MIRROR ALL THE FILES TO RIGHT in the "Differences for Profile" window, to make sure that the end result meets what I expect from a SYNC profile.

In summary, the issue is that the SYNC profile tries to copy some files to LEFT while I did not make any changes on RIGHT.

I'm attaching the file decisions, I think that it is the standard SYNC one.

I don't know exactly how Syncback Sync works but I would think it might need to read the destination for every file to see if there is already a file there. You might try a Mirror copy as the first run and then do the Sync there after.
You might look at the Copy/Delete, Advanced option "Make Safe Copies" and un-check it.
Performance is affected by "Filters" and "File and Folder selection" so look at that.

Probably too late but hope this may help someone else.

SyncBack Touch • Re: Backup files on both internal storage and external SD card

In case someone else has this question, here's the answer found elsewhere on this forum:
  1. Modify the profile > Simple settings page, remove the SyncBack Touch path (\sdcard\) and enter \storage\ in the Touch path
  2. Click on the small folder icon (browse button) next to SyncBack Touch and select the external SD card path (e.g. \storage\xxxx-xxxx\ where xxxx-xxxx is an internal volume ID set by the device) from where you want to backup files
Specifically the forum post was found here:
https://www.2brightsparks.com/bb/viewtopic.php?p=52482#p52482

One important note: I originally was confused as to the internal and external storage, which was which in the profile. I did need to make two profiles, one for each, and by doing something on the smartphone which changed either the internal or external storage and then by backing up I could see which was which. I suppose the directory structure should have given it away. So far I can't seem to make a profile to backup both at once so I just created a group profile and included each, internal and external, backup profiles.

I want to thank Swapna for the numerous times that she has helped me.

SyncBack is a well designed and powerful product. With power there will be complexity. Now I'm trying to figure out how to back up two devices.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • One way sync, triggered by change, when you have a huge amount of data

$

Hey all,

I have two devices. My main PC (with 7TB of data) and my NAS (with 7+TB of storage). I want SyncBack to make my NAS a mirror of my PC. The data on the NAS will never be changed or touched by me so a one way sync with Fast Backup suits fine.

Initially I set Syncback Pro up on the NAS and set it to backup when it identified any sort of file change on my PC. The beauty of this is that the NAS stays on and so syncback will remain dormant until I turn on my PC and change data. Then the hopes was that Syncback would immediate pick up that change and copy it to the NAS. Syncback DOES pick up any sort of data change, but rather than just immediately copying the file that it identifies as having changed it does a scan of the whole 7TB of data on my PC. With fastbackup on this still takes ~3mins before it actually gets to copying the change, and if I continue updating data on my PC in that 3mins once it's copied the one thing it initially noticed had changed it immediately starts a new 3min scan before copying more data - and it does this the whole time I change data on my PC.

Seeing as Syncback is smart enough to immediately know when a file changes I was hoping it would be smart enough to just sync that one file instantly. Is there a reason that - even with Fast Backup enabled - it needs to do that 3min scan every time?

Thanks for any advice you can offer. I'll really appreciate getting this set up perfectly.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • filters for files in newly created folders

$

Playing with a trial version and couldn't find the answer in forum or documentation so I'll ask here.
I'm testing a file backup scenario for a Firefox bookmarks backup situation, where if the file changes after 10 minutes, it is backed up.
The job I created works as expected however, if a new folder is created underneath the base folder, SBP does not "look" in the new folder for those files.
When I go to the filters, I see the new folder but there is no check mark to indicate the new folder was automatically included in the filter search.
Is there a way to configure the backup such that if a new folder is created underneath the base folder to automatically include that folder in the filter?
Hope I'm saying this correctly.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Start when program on thumdrive (!!) stops... (Variable Drive-Letters)

Hey Girls and Guys! :D

Long time no see. That's a good sign: SBP is working like a charm. =D>

But now I've got a special problem. One of my daily-use-programs runs from a thumb-drive. I want to backup the thumbdrive-content after that program stops. So I use "Run this profile when any of the following programs stop" in the "When" settings.

My problem:
Occasionally the driveletter is changing. So I've tried to switch from "G:\Path\to\Program\daily-use-program.exe" to "%SERIAL=XXXX-XXXX%\Path\to\Program\daily-use-program.exe". That is not working. :(

Any suggestions to my problem? Thank you!

Ideas and general discussion • Suggestion needed: Copy files from far, far away (other country)

$

Hello!

My Mom lives in another country, some 2000 km away. "In case of..." bad things happen, I need access to some documents, contacts, whatever. Sometime, she sends me updates via mail, but that can be accidentally forgotten. She's not an IT-Pro  but since I've sent her a ready-to-run-notebook, she uses it for most important things - what's good.

So I'm thinking about a solution to my problem: Mom is storing the important data on the notebook. How can I get a copy of that data in my house?

First thought has been SBTouch. But than I've many problems: Firewalls, Online-Times...
Second has been "Cloud", but I don't like to have sensitive data (last will, health-reports, contacts, contracts etc.) in a cloud.
Third thought: Encrypt those data.

My idea:
- install SBP on Moms notebook
- backup the files with activated encryption to the local OneDrive-folder
- let OneDrive upload the files
- pull files from OneDrive to my machine
- decrypt files on my machine

What are your thoughts about my plan?
Is it possible to decrypt files pulled from the cloud with a SBP-profile? (Can't try it at this time, no cloud-account.)
Technically it's Moms notebook, but I bought it, installed it, supporting it: Is this covered by my home-licence or do I have too buy a second one?

Thank you in advance!

Dennis

Hi Walt!

I don't get, what you're planning. Will you rename the archive-files?

Checkout variables in the help-file. You can use them for example, when you're creating ZIP-Files for the files to backup, if this could be your plan.

In most cases I would recommend backup-versions. You can rollback to a specific date within the Restore under the "Basic"-Tab. The versions are stored close to the latest files in a hidden folder.
