SyncBackPro (commercial) • Re: One way sync, triggered by change, when you have a huge amount of data

Hi,

Considering certain aspects on the way the program is implemented and functioning, we do not support copying files without scanning and comparing the Source & Destination locations (or Source and Fast Backup database in a fast backup profile).

However, you can enable the option 'Wait a number of seconds for no changes before running the profile" under: Modify profile > Expert > When > Changes settings page to tell SyncBack to wait for a certain number of seconds for no file changes before running the profile. Read this article for additional details:
https://www.2brightsparks.com/resources/articles/continuous-data-protection.html

Thank you.

Hi could any developer comment here:
  • whether my understanding of the way SyncBack Pro should work is not accurate
  • or the software is not behaving the way it should?
What's sure is that the current behavior of the software puts my data at risk with possible errors / overwriting of new data.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Move file instead of copy-then-delete

Sorry if this is asked elsewhere, couldn't find solution.

Hi. Using Syncbackpro v7 for years and very happy. I recently set up a new profile, which is a "backup" profile that moves files to destination that do not exist in source. The source and destination are on the same local drive. The files are very large (CCTV videos) and sometimes there are a lot to move. Syncback identifies the correct files, but doesn't move files like Windows Explorer does, instead it copies them then deletes the file in source. I have tried using the "Windows Explorer method of copying" but that didn't help - when the windows explorer progress dialog box was displayed it showed "copying..." and not "moving...".

Is it possible to use the Windows Explorer method of moving? i.e. just takes almost zero time to move a file irrespective of its size?

Thanks very much.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • How to configure X number of backups? I.e., incrementals not tied to dates?

How can I do incremental backups not tied to dates?

I have an external hard drive to which I want to backup certain data from my laptop.

I would like to keep, say, 10 backups and every 10th backup make it a full backup.

The date-based variables are not helpful because I am not plugging the drive in every day necessarily.

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Can't find $SBV$ folder in the Source

Running SyncbackSE V8.9.15.0 32 bit
I've been a SyncBackSE user forever. I use it daily to run a number of backup profiles. I have a pretty basic question, but I'm really stuck.

I've set up a test. On my Windows 10 desktop, I have two folders. Source and Destination.
I've set up a Profile called Testing. It is set up to Mirror the Source folder to the Destination folder.
I have Versioning setup as well. I have it set up for versioning on the Source as well as Versioning on the Destination. Both are set to: "In a hidden sub-folder of the folder that contains the original file".

I am able to see the hidden $SBV$ in the Destination folder. I am NOT able to see the hidden $SBV$ folder in the Source folder. I have no idea why, and this is my problem. I do have my system set up to be able to view all hidden files and folders.

Thanks

SyncBackFree (freeware) • scheduled run time switched to UNKNOWN

I'm using V9.3.30 under Windows 7 64 bits. I've programmed the software to go through a mirror operation every 30 minutes (every day, repeat every 30 minutes). It works perfectly as long as I'm up and running.
After a shut down and reboot, the "Next execution" shows up as Unknown. Even when it's the same day. I did tick the option "Execute this task as soon as possible after a miss".

This error is new for me. I've been running the product for years without a hitch.

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: File mysteriously skipped during backup

I stumbled upon this "feature" yesterday. In my case it relates to PDF files that came thru email. Only these files are skipped. I wondered if this is for some security reason.
The default settings of SyncBackFree seems not to display the files that are skipped and i found it by chance.

After registering to this forum i directly found your thread -- actually the T attribute is set with my files. I still don't know for what reason the attribute is set but anyways i know how to deal with it now. I just wanted to inform that propably files stored from emails are affected. Maybe it helps...

Thanks for posting your resolution and keep safe!

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Re: Can't find $SBV$ folder in the Source

Hi,

SyncBack creates versions of a file on source/destination only if files on that side are replaced, moved or deleted by the actions of the profile. If your profile type is a Backup or Mirror (right) profile then you will not normally see version files (or $SBV$ folder) on source as these profile types always copy files in one direction (i.e. from source to destination).

Versioning on Source (or Left) will only be activated if files on Source/Left are replaced or deleted by the actions of the profile (for example when you run a backup or mirror profile in restore mode). It's designed mainly for Intelligent Sync profiles where files may be changed or copied (or deleted from) both sides.

Thank you.

You can enter multiple file types to compare by separating them with commas in the 'File types that can be compared' setting. Please read the help file > Using SyncBackPro > Basic Operations > Comparison Program for additional details.
Hello, and even if we aremotivated enough to declare many needed file extension in this field, how to declare file WITHOUT extension to be opened in the declared comparator ?
I tried that :
,init,properties,txt,xml

So first item is <empty> coma <other coma separated file extensions> for Beyond Compare program but I always got a popup "How do you want to opend this file" instead of seing the comparator program opened.
Tested on SyncBackPro 9.3.30.0 x64

Generally the UI standard in search is no defined filter (leave field blank) for no filter used instead of asking the user to define exhaustively all needed stuff

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Deleting base file in delta backups

$

I'm using delta versioning on destination to backup a Virtual Machine. It's working fine, but I'd like "base file" to be refreshed in some periods. Versioning seems to only delete patch files, not base file. What's the correct way of doing this? I couldn't see any way to do that automatically.

Help file mentions about deleting base file, and it says that "deleting base file requires deleting all patch files" but to do this I need to save only one version of file. That means I have to modify the profile to save just one version to accomplish this?

I'm also using Easeus Todo backup free to make image backups, and I see it creates something called "consolidation" backup; probably by merging base with older patch files.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Does Syncbackpro resume if interrupted?

I just purchased Syncbackpro and have been trying to get an initial backup of my files to Google Drive. It's been taking quite a while which I expected since I have quite a lot of data, but I will occasionally need to reboot my machine before the initial backup completes. The backup seems to resume but the completion time always seems to hover around the same amount of time. Will my initial backup ever finish?

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Differences Window: Can't "Skip" All

$

The most common "restore" I do is a single file accidentally deleted by a user. This means changing the "action" in the differences window to "Skip" for all files, then selecting just the one file I wish to restore.

The sequence Cntrl+A, then right-click, opens a context window of actions, but "Skip" is missing. The work-around is to select only non-skipped files, then change their action to "Skip". This is tedious when there are hundreds of files in the list.

I would like SyncBack to display the "Change to Skip" option in the context menu regardless if there are already skipped items in the selection.

I am running V8.9.15.0. Thank you.

The help says that VBS may not be supported in future versions and that it is not supported in the 64 bit version. I would like to know if there is documentation that is specific to the version of Basic and Pascal supported by SyncBackPro? I also was wondering if there are any recommendations as to which scripting language to use?
