SyncBackFree (freeware) • Ignore date & time changes - not working

$

I'm trying mirror my local with my website (via FTP) where there's a few ms time difference causing SyncBack to always sync files even unchanged ones.
so I set the Ignore date and time setting to 30seconds to make sure

Image

yet for some reason SyncBack is still trying to sync already synchronized files due to very small time difference

See:
Image
this file has been synced already and should not be offered again.

I'm using the latest syncbackfree as posting, on windows 10 -> syncing w/ Unix shared web hosting server via FTP.

PS
Or is the syncing due to the attribute differences, and if so , how do i fix that?

A couple of things that may or may not help.

All of the files on your FTP show 00 seconds so you might try "Ignore date & time changes" set to 60 seconds.

Also as a test set "Ignore file modification date & time changes" just to see if the results are different or not.

"What if a files contents are the same but not the files attributes?
Let's say you have a file in the source and destination, but the attributes are different, e.g. the source file is read-only but the destination file is not. What happens? First, by default, a profile does not compare the attributes of files to see if they're different. To compare attributes you need to go to the Compare Options -> Attributes settings page and choose which attributes you want to compare. For example, you may only care about the hidden and read-only attributes, and so would only enable comparison of those attributes. Keep in mind that some locations, e.g. FTP, don't have Windows file attributes. Also, some file systems, e.g. FAT32, don't have some attributes. In those situations SyncBack will ignore those unsupported attributes and not compare them."

SyncBackPro (commercial) • SyncBackPro Job to always download newest file version from URL?

$

Greetings!

Is there a way to configure a Job in syncback pro to use as source a static URL (a direct download link).... download the file and hash check it if it is a newer version of the file? The URL links to a file that is always named the same, so I imagine there would need to be an intermediary download to examine for properties and hash checking against the existing file (same named)

The process I envisioned:
1) download from SRC url link ->to-> DST temp file
2) hash check existing DST [non-temp file] against the temp file
4) if has check is different... check for file properties indicating new version
5) if new version... move previous version to "DST\archived\" archived location
6) Then rename temp file to original file name [and save hash / file version to text file]

Thanks,
HariS

SyncBackFree (freeware) • Re: SyncBack will not run as scheduled

This is happening to me and has always done. It seems very random whether it bothers to run to the schedule or not. I have selected settings of run whether logged on or not; wake up to run; and , run as soon as possible after scheduled run is missed.
I tried to follow the instructions below to edit the scheduler but under the Trigger tab, there wasn't a circle to be able to: ' Put a check mark in the one time circle.'
What I did notice was that under that under the General tab in the Task Scheduler, it was ticked against only run when user logged on, yet in Sync backup itself, I have it ticked against Run whether user is logged on or not. Could that be the problem?
Do the Task scheduler options have to match those ticked in Sync backup for the schedule to run?

Any help would be most welcome thanks as this has been very frustrating.
Many thanks

SyncBackSE (commercial) • Rotating Backups - Day, Then Month, Then Year

$

Hi all,

I have a script that generates a zip file which I would like SyncBack to back up to an external drive.
I already have SB set up to run the script, and once the script is done, copy the file to the external.

However what I would really like is for SB to manage rotating the backups too.

I'd like to keep the most recent seven days, then one backup per month for the current year, then one per year.

Is there any way SyncBack can do something like this?
If not, does anyone know of an app that might accomplish this on windows?

Thanks!

I have V8 last version Pro. This started for me about two months ago after working fine for years and haven't been able to figure it out.

Uninstalled/reinstalled. Started w/ fresh profiles but nothing works. Tried all the basic troubleshooting including what was listed here but no luck.

I have five profiles which have at this point run twice so I should see at most 10 stuck processes but counted 78.

Any other ideas?

Txs,

You are posting in the Syncback Free forum but you show using SyncbackSE. If you imported a profile from SyncbackSe into SyncbackFree then here is a list of reasons for an invalid profile.

Invalid Profiles

If you import or run a profile that has settings which cannot be used in your version of SyncBackFree, or is from a newer version of SyncBackFree, then you will receive one of the following error messages:

The profile "profile name" contains settings that cannot be used with this version of SyncBackFree

The profile "profile name" is from a newer version of SyncBackFree. It is unlikely that the profile will function correctly.

There are several possible settings that could cause this:

·The profile is using Amazon S3, or a compatible service (e.g. Google Storage), and it has the option set to split files into chunks when uploading. This feature is no longer supported as the size restriction was greatly increased in SyncBackPro V6.1. Using that feature had a large performance impact, and with the size restriction effectively removed, the feature was removed. SyncBackPro has automatically disabled profiles using the "split files" setting to stop their accidental use. There are two options if you have split files in a bucket:

1.If you do not need the split files on the cloud (e.g. you have a local copy or another backup) then you could re-enable the profile (right-click on it in the main user interface and select Enable from the pop-up menu) and run it. SyncBackPro will automatically delete all the split files on the cloud, including any versions which are split. Depending on the configuration of your profile, it will then upload your local copies of those split files.

2.If you do not have another copy of the split files on the cloud (i.e. the cloud copies are the only copy) then you will need to restore the split files using an older version of SyncBackPro:

·Download and install SyncBackPro V6.0. Install over your current version. Do not uninstall.

·Re-enable the disabled cloud profiles that are using the "split files" setting (you can re-enable the profile(s) by right-clicking on them and selecting Enable from the pop-up menu).

·Restore your split files by running the cloud profiles in Restore mode. From the Differences window you could then choose only the split files (which files are split depends upon their size, there is no way to tell from the Differences window if a file is split or not).

·Now you have a local copy of your split files.

·Download and install SyncBackPro V6.1 or newer. Install over the V6.0 version. Do not uninstall.

·Depending on the configuration of your profile, when the new cloud profiles are run they will upload the files.

If you are unsure about what to do please contact 2BrightSparks Technical Support before you do anything.

·The profile is from a newer version of SyncBackFree. It is not recommended that you import profiles from newer versions as the settings may not be compatible. SyncBackFree is backwards compatible with older versions, but it is not forwards compatible, i.e. it cannot know how future versions will store or name their settings. You should update your version of SyncBackFree (via Help -> Update Check in the main menu).

·It is an Intelligent Synchronization profile and this version of SyncBack does not support Intelligent Synchronization. sbl-no-feature-16x16 SyncBackFree does not support Intelligent Synchronization.

·It is a Fast Backup profile and this version of SyncBack does not support that. sbl-no-feature-16x16 SyncBackFree does not support Fast Backup.

·You are using email (backup from) and this version of SyncBack does not support that. sbl-no-feature-16x16 SyncBackFree does not support backup of emails or to an email server.

·You are using the cloud and this version of SyncBack does not support that. sbl-no-feature-16x16 SyncBackFree does not support any cloud services.

·You are using scripting and this version of SyncBack does not support that. sbl-no-feature-16x16 SyncBackFree does not support scripting.

·You are using versioning and this version of SyncBack does not support that. sbl-no-feature-16x16 SyncBackFree does not support versioning.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Have several profiles backup to the same destination?

I have a one big Backup drive that I want several profiles to backup to.
The problem is that I use Mirror backups that delete files and folders on the destination. Thus, one profile when running will delete files and folders that the other profile had copied to that destination, as it attempts to make an exact mirror.
Is there a way to have several profiles backup (mirror) to the same destination?

Hi,

Configure the profile's destination path to point to a different sub-folder on the backup drive. For example: If D:\ drive is your backup drive then configure the destination path of the first profile as "D:\Profile Backup1\" and second profile as "D:\Profile Backup2\" and so on.

Thank you.

I have an external drive that I want to always match what is on an internal drive. The internal drive contains music files that I am in the process of manipulating, and in some cases, creating and deleting. Would a backup or mirror profile be the best way to accomplish the updated matching of the two drives?

Mirror will do what you want. When you set up the Profile, select the internal drive as the Source and the external drive as the Destination.

SyncBackPro (commercial) • Directory Delete on Left But remain intact on Right

$

Hi there, looking for a solution while syncing to Google Drive File Stream.

Currently SyncbackPro syncs files between my source drive and my google drive (File Stream) which is then sent to cloud. As I make changes, the sync works great. Deleted files are removed, new files are copied etc. But, since all the files are sent to the cloud, I want to delete local files at times.

In the Decisions/Files settings, I have gone to the folders tab -- > What to do if file exists in Google Drive but not on Left --> Do nothing/ignore

With this instance, any files within that directory on the Left that are deleted are then deleted in drive, but the directory itself remains. I want the entire directory and all files to remain untouched in my Google Drive when the directory can't be found on the left.

Is there a setting in which I can delete a directory on the left and then skip looking at the the full directory on the right in my drive?

SyncBackSE (commercial) • RunBeforeCopyFile - Possible to backup jpeg from RAW images via script

I have all of my photos saved as RAW (.CR2) and would like to backup/sync with another drive as jpg files. This can be done with a simple Photoshop script that can be run from the command line. Is there a way to utilize the Syncback system to accomplish this? So instead of copying the file, it converts and saves such that picture.cr2 is saved as picture.jpg.

My guess is that "RunBeforeCopyFile" is the right function to implement but I wanted to make sure that this will not interfere with change detection etc. when I set DoneCopy to true even though a true copy was not made. Is there an example implementation of RunBeforeCopyFile that I could use a template? I've used SyncBack for a decade or so, but have never done anything this advanced. Thanks!

I just realized that scripting is a Pro feature and is not available for SE version so I cannot do what I was hoping to anyway.
