Any plans of adding delta/block-level support to backups?
Thanks.

Hi

Do you have any window-handling software common to the two PCs? I ask because on a display here (Win 7) set to 1680x1050, that dialog uses only about 695 pixels depth (a rough estimate based on ratio of total screen depth in mm to dialog depth in mm). So I can't see how it can overflow a VDU set to 1080 depth unless something is rendering it wrong (or, otherwise interfering). Delphi display routines sometimes have issues with windows-handling software (such as WindowBlinds)

We did increase this dialog size in 6.4.3.0 (to include the 'Run as soon as possible' setting, and a little while before in Dec 2012 to include the 'Wake' setting). But it seems to have caused no problems for anyone else (at least, no-one else is reporting any so far), which does tend to suggest maybe something common to your PCs but unique to your set-up/s...

No, there's no setting to reduce it, sorry (there needs to be enough room for all the day/date options if you choose Monthly). I'll mention it to the development department, though.

I think it's still on the ideas list, but no promises or ETA.

Both use on MB display controllers, and the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel to set the display properties. So both are using OEM capabilities. No fancy extra stuff has been applied.

I just looked, and all the other sub windows have a minimum size, but they are small enough to fit this laptop screen. When the Profile Setup window is made smallest, its vertical height is about 83% of the laptop height. On the desktop's AccuSync, about 64%. That = ca. 695 pixels on the AccuSync, and 637 on the laptop by my arithmetic. Does that sound reasonable?

Other pop ups such as [Choose Sub Directories ...] and [Change Filter] can be made much smaller, and have vertical scroll bars when needed. Why not [Edit Schedule] ? Why not have the various check boxes stretched out more in the horizontal direction, and reduce the vertical size?

Try this beta.

Do not uninstall / reinstall, or you'll lose your profiles & settings. Just install 'over the top'

Note that it will still display at the size memorised by the previous version. but can now be manually shrunk further.

Today is a rainy holiday, so I can do it after breakfast.

Can I roll back to the currently installed version if there are problems?

I re-discovered an explanation and "fix" for this feature, which I had run into with another program once. In the "Screen Resolution" sub-window of the "Display" properties is a setting "Make text and other items larger or smaller". I had it set to 125%. After setting it to 100%, I could see this "Schedule" window was just small enough vertically to show the [OK] and [Cancel] buttons at the bottom. But I could not get the diagonal or vertical re-size double arrows to show to make it shorter vertically. I had to temporarily rotate the screen 90 degrees to do that. Now I can see the full window, both full screen and regular sizable window versions. :)

So I have not tested your beta.

Having done that, I want to point out that I, like many other of your users, am aging and approaching geezerhood. I had cataract surgery last year, and I can see clearly now, the fog is gone. With appropriate reading glasses I can read the computer screens and books. But I don't like squinting when reading some of the minute fonts that too many web sites and programs use these days. The No-Squint plug-in for FireFox helps a lot, but does not apply to your program. Your much younger eagle-eyed programmers should remember this when setting the window sizes, and make sure they fit with 125% and 150% settings.

Now, on to getting the home network to work reliably with the synching between the laptop and notebook. [-o<

Re: Versioning vs multiple backups?

I am confused.

Pre V6 I set up backups via ftp to our hosting provider - keeping up to 14 copies of our accounting data file.

V6 came out and, from memory, the previous configs were found and I still had 14 days of backups.

When putting new HDD drives in the server, I didn't think to see if I could save any configs from Syncback Pro. No drama I thought, just go through the process again.

Unfortunately, I just can't find where I can tel SBPro to keep 14 daily backups and recycle.

How can I set this up? Currently on my off premises ftp site, is a current backup and a 'file' without suffix. Been 7 days now and I thought I would have that many files.

I have looked at the FAQ's and sorry, am not that proficient to know what versioning is. Guess I want multiple backups.

Hi,

I have a question about the transfer speed.

Can I limit the bandwith allocated during comparison and synchronisation ?

Best regards

Daily backups since upgrading to SyncBackFree v6

I recently upgraded to SyncBackFree v6. I'm on Windows 7, 64. It appears that my system backups up repeatedly, I find 3 or 4 backup up logs everyday, even though the schedule is set for weekly backups.

I do have a couple of errors regarding locked files that I'm working to clean up but I'd like to return to the scheduled frequency.

Any thoughts?

Maybe you still have V3 installed, with live Schedules?

Using what protocol? The answers differ. But

Help > Search > 'bandwidth' (without the quotes)

will get you 5 hits. Ignore the top one (Cloud is not relevant to SE), and follow the appropriate one of the next two hits.

Note that no bandwidth settings affect scanning (comparison). This is always done at full speed (as mentioned in the Help)

Sorry, our crystal ball is broken :) We can't tell you what your configuration used to be (you normally need to tell us...).

But there are no 'settings' (buttons, etc) to tell SE/Pro to save 14 copies, except via Versioning (see below). But you can force it to do so by using calendar-based variables as part of your Destination string (e.g.

\backups\%DAYOFWEEK%\

would give you seven numbered folders (assuming you ran it daily) that 'cycle' & re-use the locations in turn). There are numerous search hits on this forum if you search on 'variables'. One possibility to expand that to '14' would be

\backups\%WEEKOFODDEVEN\%DAYOFWEEK%\

but beware of the fact that some years have a week-53 (O-dd), followed immediately by week-01 (also O-dd). Nothing we can do about vagaries of our calendar...once you go past '7', anything else involves caveats & compromises and 'fits where it touches' issues...

Or, use Versioning (Expert mode > Copy/Delete > Versioning > Destination section).

Note that Versioning is not possible if you back up multiple files to one single-Zip (see the F1 Help). But using Variables (either as a part/all of a 'wrapping' folder or as part/all of the single-Zip's name) is possible. I've no idea if that's relevant, but just in case...

Delete files on source after backup

Hello,

I am pretty sure, that the program has this function and I probably missed it. But now I have been searching forever and will have to go for help.

I need to delete the files on source after they're copied to the destination.
How is this possible?

Use the Move options (on the Decisions-Files settings page/s).

Move is a Copy followed by a Delete (assuming the Copy-stage didn't error). You can optionally add a Verify in-between to check that part a little 'deeper', assuming whatever you are backing up from/to supports hashing.

I checked the Uninstall window on Windows 7. It does appear I have 2 versions of SyncBack installed: Syncback and Syncback Free. However, when I go to uninstall Syncback I get the message that If I'm upgrading, don't install Syncback as I'd loose my profiles. I suspect that now that Syncback Free v6.4.3.0 is installed and running I could uninstall the older version - correct? I would have assumed that when performing an upgrade the installation package would have taken care of the older version.

At this point, I've deleted the old profile imported from the older version of Syncback and created a new profile...wasn't very hard. Now I'm in the process of cleaning up the errors from locked files.

All our separate products install in parallel (not 'over the top'). SyncBack V3 is a separate product to SyncBackFree V6. This is so you can run the various versions (all four of them, if you like) in parallel and cross-evaluate them before deciding which to go for.

The warning about 'no need to uninstall if upgrading' mostly means 'updating within version (V3.a to V3.b, V6.x to V6.y, etc). It also counts for upgrading 'model' if you want the profiles imported from 'lower' to higher' model (SE to Pro, V3 to Free V6, etc). For example, if you uninstalled V3 first, you'd lose your V3 profiles before V6 could import them. If we uninstalled V3 after successful V6 install (and profile-import), but you later decided you preferred V3 after all, it would be gone (and so would your V3 profiles)

Same applies if you trial Pro while having SE installed already. We don't uninstall SE in case you want to go back (decide you don't need the extra Pro features). And so on. We leave it for you to uninstall older/lower 'models' if/when you want to / are happy with where you are now.
