Hi,
No problem. I tried to translate what is lacking to translate. I'm not an expert but you tell me how I do it.

The response from 2BrightSparks was that it just wasn't on the radar. Which is OK, it's their decision, but hey, it's pretty easy & (to me) seems like an obvious hole.

All my Python script does basically is copy/sync all the files inside a directory, and then just makes the time/date stamp of the destination directory the same as the source. These are the key lines:

# Set same directory attributes
shutil.copystat(src_dp, dest_dp)

The "copystat" function copies all the attributes from the source directory (src_dp) to the destination directory (dest_dp).

The logic is simple, it can be done. 2BrightSparks just said that it wasn't a priority.

Comparison not as good as it was

Hi,

I'm not sure what's changed in the last couple of versions but I've found that SyncBackSE appears to be not comparing as it was.

I have a folder of DLLs that don't change each build yet SyncBackSE seems to think that they have (I suspect they're copied from another folder but they are the same size, hash etc each time).

Has the comparison algorithm changed at all or do I need to set something different? Only at the moment it's getting to the point of unusable...

Tim

Hi, the Differences window will clearly show what has changed. To force the Differences window to display run your profile using Ctrl-R from the main window. When the Differences window is displayed simply click on a file and look at the bottom of the window. It will highlight in red what is different, e.g. date & time of file.

Looking through this it's claiming the date/time is different which I suspect is from the fact the file has been copied from another location.

What I'm curious about though is what's changed recently to cause this, it's never been an issue over the past few years?

Hi, you simply need to discover what is changing those dates & times and stop it doing that. It's impossible for me to know this.

Discontinued sync cause of "too many files will be deleted"

Hi,
we got the above message on a Mirrorsync.
Of course, when there is only one file in a folder - and this is deleted - this is 100%.

But how can we avoid an interupted sync.

Is there an option? A trick?

Thanks.

Michael

Hi

Modify profile > select Expert mode > Copy/Delete > 'Warn me (abort profile if unattended) if X% or more of my files are going to be deleted due to my settings'

('X' is usually '100' by default, but yours may be different by now).

Simply de-select the option altogether (using '0' will warn or abort if any files are going to be deleted; other values will trigger if the specified 'percentage' by number is reached or exceeded). Press F1 with settings page open for contextual Help.

Obviously, you do so at your own risk...

FTP Backup Problems

I have a SyncBackPro v6.5.4.0 and am experiencing problems with FTP backups. I have a job that copies about 62,000 files to a FTP server on a local network (all within 1AND1 datacenter.) The job runs for 20-30 minutes at a time, copies around 10,000 files and then it errors out. I have seen variety of errors, like:

R:227 Entering Passive Mode (74,208,4,152,97,169).
I:Opening data connection to 74.208.4.152 Port: 25001
L:STOR SBSE____.P6G
E:No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
R:425 Failed to establish connection.
L:QUIT
R:221 Goodbye.
I:Server closed connection

-------- OR
L:TYPE I
R:200 Switching to Binary mode.
L:PORT 7X,2XX,XX,XXX..
R:200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV.
L:STOR SBSE____.K1O
I:Timeout (60s).
H:3
I:Client closed the connection.

I have increased the timeouts and retry counts.

FileZilla client finished the whole job on the first try without a problem.

Has anyone experienced any similar problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Looks suspiciously like firewall or router interference (which can be application-specific...). Note that if Pro is set to use one mode (Passive, say), and that hits issues it may try a failback to the other mode (which may simply not work at all - but it's worth a try in case mode-1 was the 'wrong' one).

If you want to generate & forward a Support Zip with debug-out to our (new) ticket system, we can take a look. There's a Contact Support link in that article.

But it may be we can only guess at the cause: in your first example the FTP server is actively refusing a connection, and in the second, there's a timeout (or, the server is actually sending a response and Pro doesn't hear it because something is interfering with or blocking it)

BTW, you masked the server IP in the 2nd example, but left the IP in the first example 'in clear' ;)

1. To schedule a profile simply select it in the main menu and click the Schedule button. Follow the instructions on screen and refer to the extensive help file for more details (you can press F1 at any time for context sensitive help).

2. When creating a new profile simply select the Mirror profile. That will do exactly what you want.

mickyj Sir,
My life has suddenly become so much easy with this wonderful software. I have over 700 GB of very precious files which I used to backup on my portable storage disk. This backup was done almost every alternate day. I had to first manually compare every directory (there are over 50 directories) and remove destination files. After that I used to update from source to destination with help of XXCopy command.
By this software not only the pains to manually weed out unwanted files are history but surprisingly the backup operation takes only a few minutes.
Over and above all, the support is wonderful. You promptly answered my query.
Thank you Sir once again.

mickyj Sir,
When I had installed this software, I had created some profiles with “Backup” option. Being new to this software, I was able to create profiles with 'hit and run' method. Therefore I somehow created profiles after trying 6-7 times.
When you explained I discovered I was wrong because I should have created “Mirror” profiles. So I deleted old profiles and created new “Mirror” profiles, this time much easier.
Sir, I being a novice would bother you with some silly questions which you must forgive me for I have some questions as below.

Example 1:
I created a profile called ”MirrorDDriveToFDrive” which mirrors 7 directories out of 10 in my source D: drive to my destination F: drive which is portable hard drive. I ran this profile quite a few times. After that 2 more directories were added in my source D: drive. These 2 new directories were not supposed to be added into my existing ”MirrorDDriveToFDrive” profile. So I did not Modify this profile. But when I ran this profile later, these 2 directories got added into my profile and were also mirrored. So I went to Modify and found out that these were added to profile by default.
Now my question is that is this normal or I made some mistake somewhere ?

Example 2:
I found that this software can mirror to cloud sites also. I have space on Skydrive, Google drive and 4shared. So I tried to create another profile for cloud storage but found that none of these sites are listed. So I selected Amezon S3 in which I ticked Google Storage. But I could not proceed beyond the box Bucket/Container. I have no clue of what to insert here.
Now my question is : Is there any step by step user guide which can help me to create such profile ? If there is any topic posted on this site which explains this will also do. Or if you can guide me with sample text to be inserted while creating such profile.

Thank you in advance Sir, and best of luck.

Hi

1) There are options in the Choose Subdirectories & Files dialog (right-hand two columns) to

Include New Folders | Include New Files

at every folder level (including 'root of scope'). By default these are set to 'Include...', because we feel that (if in doubt) it is better to copy unwanted stuff than to miss stuff you might want to back up. You can click these to change them to 'Ignore...' if you prefer. Remember you may now need to de-select (uncheck) anything else that has been added automatically in the interim period.

Press F1 (or click Help button) in the Choose.... dialog for contextual Help with more background

2) None of your current cloud services are currently supported (Google Storage is not the same service as Google Drive - they are separate services/mechanisms). The forthcoming V7 will likely support SkyDrive and Google Drive (but not 4shared). The current V6 does not - it only supports Amazon S3, Google Storage (an S3-compatible service) and MS/Windows Azure. You would need to have an appropriate account to use the supported services.

Dave Wilkins Sir,

Referring to what you suggested as below:
"There are options in the Choose Subdirectories & Files dialog (right-hand two columns) to
Include New Folders | Include New Files
at every folder level (including 'root of scope'). By default these are set to 'Include...', because we feel that (if in doubt) it is better to copy unwanted stuff than to miss stuff you might want to back up. Press F1 (or click Help button) in the Choose.... dialog for contextual Help with more background"

When I right click on root directory i.e. "\" I find there are two options among others which I need to tweak :
* Ignore New Folders
* Include New Folders
Unfortunately, I tried my best to change but I could not toggle 'cross' or 'tick' signs on these options.
Sir, I would like you to help me on this.
Also, say when I am able to toggle them, will consequent settings, will this affect sub folders of selected folders. I explain this by example :
Say I have
\Data\Folder1\
\Data\FOlder2\
\Data\Folder3\
\Data\FOlder4\
\Data\Folder5\
\Data\FOlder6\
\Data\Folder7\
\Data\FOlder8\
and I selected
\Data\Folder1\
\Data\FOlder4\
\Data\Folder7\
Will new sub folders in \Data\Folder1\ not be updated ?
Thank you in advance Sir.

If you cannot toggle Ignore/Include options (note: you can do this by left-clicking the actual option captions, also), this is because you have not yet expanded that folder, so Pro has not yet enumerated the contents of it (because if we are copying 'everything', there is no need to remember all the separate contents - we just record the equivalent of * to mean 'include everything').

But, if it does not yet know the detailed contents, it cannot make a record of them to know what represents 'now' and then determine what is 'new' later on unless you expand it. So you need to expand the folder level you want to set Ignore options for (so that the files and/or sub-folders inside it are visible/enumerated) before the options are activated. You can then select the appropriate options for that level. You can collapse its view afterwards if you want.

This is mentioned in the contextual Help on that dialog, which I suggested you read, by the way...
